RE: t-and-f: Wilson Kipketer?
COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Aug 16 AP - Wilson Kipketer, the world-record holder at 800 metres from Denmark, has been cleared by doctors to compete at the Sydney Olympics, Danish media reported today. Kipketer, a gold medal favourite in the event, sustained a leg muscle injury after winning the 800m on June 23 in Helsinki, Finland, in 1 minute 44.27 seconds, one of the fastest times of the year. He has not competed since, but expects to run again in the Golden League meet in Brussels, Belgium, on August 25 or in another meet the following day at Gateshead, England. Re: t-and-f: New Great White Hope from the Great White North
Will he turn 20 by the end of the year or is he officially a junior? If he is, how does this rank him among juniors? Secondly, is this guy taking Franno's advice and bypassing the U.S. college system or will he be travelling south to take advantage of warm training climes and free school/coaching? Re: t-and-f: Ranking
The system proposed by Garry does not in my view account for the fact that not every athlete puts out 100 percent in all races. If this is the case, which I'm not sure it is (does this go back to the Bailey defense of 6 weeks or so ago?) then that is the athlete's problem. There is no system which will account for this. The problem I see in Stephen's example is that the meets as a whole are weighed rather than the individual events. An NCAA sprint title can easily be of the same quality as some, and in the case of the 400, many GL meets. On the opposing side the mid/long distances and field events are usually not close to the standards of a GL meet. So how can you weigh both meets in their entirety by any standard. The best barometer of ranking athletes in any sport is head to head competition. Honors won in terms of major championships should have a great deal of influence on the rankings due to the fact that we have to assume that all athletes are pointing for those meets. Marks should be the third influence to the rankings but never be outweighed by head to head competition and honors won. Lets see thats 1. head to head 2. honors won 3. marks. That sounds familiar to me.

t-and-f: collegiate coaching position-delete if not interested
We have an immediate opening at the University of Nebraska-Kearney for a throws coach. We are an NCAA Division II institution with a very strong throws program. We have the defending Women's DII hammer champion who is in her senior year and we also have a All American 35lb. weight thrower on the men's side who is also a senior. You can access the website in my signature and view meet results and performance lists to get a feel for the level of athletes that we have and would like to keep here. This year, the position if either going to be volunteer or very part time pay wise with a very strong chance of moving into full time next year depending on the strengths and performance of whoever comes in. This is a great opportunity for somebody who is willing and able to live on little income for a year to prove what they can do. We are a member of the highly competitive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and our men's team has won the last three indoor conference titles. Please contact me about the info via email or by one of the phone numbers below. A couple of weeks back, someone posted the titles to a couple of books they considered to be excellent reading on the Olympics. As I recall, one of the books listed the top 8 finishers in all events and some preliminaries. Would someone please repost the titles? Thanks.
