I can tell you that athletes would love to compete at home. But, the bottom line is "incentive" Money. Also, your event must be contested or you have to go across the pond to compete. Aw well!! Do you really think that athletes from other countries who live here are testing regularly? Or let's take Russian athletes who now live in Israel. Go figure. I know a case whereby a foreign athlete who has actually represent his particular country in Oly Games and World Champs and does not even use his own identity. Re: t-and-f: Khadevis Robinson runs 1:44.41!!
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mats Åkerlind - - - I find this remark somewhat strange on a list dedicated to US Track and Field. I must go through a large number of posts "discussing" pseudo events. A good example being the remark on Greene's race in Rome, leading to this multitude of posts (The US vs. Canada vs. The IOC/IAAF vs. The World...) saying basically nothing to all of us not involved in the discussion - and - not giving any new info whatsoever, only more or less serious opinions. (No, I'm not going to step into that bogmire... The topic is interesting and important, but not in the manner the discussion is conducted on the list) Then comes a post saying that athletes have performed well. Interesting to Track fans in the USA, I'd imagine. First Krummenacker x 2, now Robinson. The US again producing half milers that can compete at an international level. The response - "Wake me when it is important." Well at least for me it's more important than 95% of the other posts on the list, since it provides me with real info on real Track perfrormances. My reply: "Wake me when you discuss Track" On Tuesday we'll have a great Track meet here i Sweden. "DN Galan" in Stockholm. I look forward to that. I also lokk forward to the World Juniors in Kingston, to the Commonwealth Games and to the European Championships, to the rest of the GP, (and to the Swedish Championships in Gävle, where I stand as meet director...) It's summer and a lot of action - let's discuss that! I'll give you two topics... a) Will the US runners get to the world top, with Krummenacker and Khadevis? b) What has happened to the men's Hammer? The most even and unpredictable event in the world right now. The meet in Rome had (I think from memory) 7 throwers within 3-4 feet! It's been almost like that the whole season! t-and-f: FEOFANOVA TOPS OWN WORLD INDOOR POLE VAULT MARK
Feofanova tops own world indoor pole vault mark GLASGOW, Scotland - Russia's Svetlana Feofanova broke her own world indoor pole vault record Sunday, jumping 15 feet, 7 1/4 inches at the Norwich Union meet. Feofanova surpassed her previous mark of 15-7 set last March 3 at the European indoor championships in Vienna, Austria. Feofanova, 22, finished second at the last two indoor and outdoor world championships, but she failed to record a mark at the 2000 Olympics. American Stacy Dragila, the Olympic champion, holds the outdoor world record of 15-9 1/4.
t-and-f: New Pole Vault rules
HAMBURG, Germany (March 5, 2003 11:53 a.m. EST) - About 20 leading pole vaulters sent a letter to track and field's governing body to protest rule changes they say will make records more difficult. The group wants the IAAF to reconsider the changes, especially the reduction of pole vault pegs by nearly one-third. The pegs hold the bar, and smaller pegs will cause the bar to fall more easily when brushed by the vaulter. Jeff Hartwig of the United States and Tim Lobinger of Germany were among those who signed the letter. "The athletes have been overrun by the changes and their prospects are not good," Marc Osenberg, a former pole vaulter and agent of the many of the vaulters who signed the letter, said Wednesday. "On the other side, we have a good contact to IAAF and we are not seeking a confrontation."
