Re: [Tagging] [Talk-us-nps] Feature Proposal - RFC - ranger_station
I'd update the definition to state facilities housing law enforcement and/or visitor assistant services such as those commonly found in National Parks, Forests, Wildlife Refuges, and State Parks. Tag should not be used on facilities that do not include a law enforcement function such as information kiosks or campground registration offices. In most cases, a single structure will house many of these services. Current text only references national parks. Since there are 59 National Parks on our radar, each with a least one ranger station, often more, the feature will be used throughout the US. Re: [Tagging] [Talk-us-nps] Feature Proposal - RFC - ranger_station
Thomas, you say the tag should apply to facilities housing law enforcement and/or visitor assistant services but then say it shouldn't be used on facilities that do not include a law enforcement function. This seems contradictory, unless you didn't really mean that or. Also, does this law enforcement function really apply to all park rangers, or just those in certain jurisdictions or levels of government? I could easily see this tag used in national, state, and county parks. Is there anything confusingly similar to a Ranger Station, that should have a different tag? Example: Pinnacles National Park has a true Ranger Station, but the first contact for many visitors is elsewhere. The main campground everyone uses has small store and campground office. There's a separate desk where park rangers hang out to talk maps and collect fees. Without guidance I'd call this as three nodes the same building campground office/store/ranger station. Example: the entrance stations at Yosemite National Park offer maps, weather reports, collect fees, and are staffed with rangers who know the park. These rangers have radios to call on law enforcement. Yet this is pretty clearly an entrance kiosk, not a ranger station. ___ Tagging mailing list Tagging@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/tagging
