Hi: Go into the Windows Control Panel and in the ScriptManager tab to the
help item and see if you can contact the person who created the script.
That is the best bet me thinks.

Subject: a Script error

Sorry for the vague subject line.

On my Windows 8.1 desktop, I am running Winamp version 5.66. I also
installed Jeff Bishop's Winamp script, version 4.1 which is the most
recent incarnation of the app. At any rate, as soon as I launch Winamp,
I get a message which says that for the script to work, I must be
running Window-eyes 8.4 or later. After this message, the script
aborts. Since I am running Window-eyes 9.1, why am I getting this
message, and, is there a fix?

Thanks.

Hi: OK, missed that it was Jeffs script - relly should finish a couple of
cups before reading and posting.
Anyway, post to the scripting list or get back to me and I will post or
better, if Jeff has a contact e-mail in the script contact him directly.
Sounds like a simple fix, perhaps just change one line of code but Jeff
would know for sure.

Excuse me, but I really have to take this opportunity to ask the following.

Does Omnipage, or any of the other recommended OCR programs happen to have
automatic or optional orientation settings like OB has had for years? I
really would like to have a good reason to dispense with the present version
of OB 8 I happen to have lying around waiting to be installed on my new
Windows 8.1 computer.
I really would like to be able to continue to scan with the book in the up
side down position, because I simply find it much easier to scan with the
book more toward the frunt of the scanner instead of way in the back. It is
jus so much easier for me to keep it lined up well in that position

Any other new conveniences/options in these commercial versions I should
know about.

Thanks much,

Larry

Hi: Interesting Demo video.
Sounds pretty rough but has some nice ideas.
I wonder how, if, screen readers handle windows without handles currently.
Also, I wonder if he is getting the info from the UIA DOM or someplace else.
Anyway, sort of cool that he has managed to get as far as he has.
Keep us informed if you use it and how it develops over the rest of the year

I guess what also has bothered me is that you have begged for somebody to
create an app for this or that. In my humble opinion, people will create an
app to make Window-eyes work better with applications when or if they choose
to do so. From my experience having been on this list since 1999 and you
don't receive a response is that either nobody has an answer to a question
or nobody can help you out. It appears that begging for somebody to create a
specific app isn't getting you anywhere.

Will I pass along your information? You betcha! I really hope this program
will make the screen reader manufacturers take notice. Even with the
improvements made in the Window-eyes 9 series, I still cannot interact with
sites from Synchrony Bank such as Amazon.com or Wal-mart.com. You need
sighted help to perform mouse clicks to interact with the date picker to
select a payment date and blah blah blah.

Re: W E 9.1 on an XP system

2015-03-18 Thread Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc. via Talk

Hello Mr. Roberts:

I'm one individual who still schlepps Windows XP Pro around the block. Why
so? It still works! I have virtually everything set up and it'll take me
sometime to do the same in Windows7/8/8.1 especially at work.

I am happily using Window-Eyes 9.0.0 in a Windows XP Professional 32Bit box
with no problems whatsoever. I have NOT CHANGED any setting or tinkered
with anything. I just installed, and that was it.

Yes, I know there's Window-Eyes 9.1.0 out there; I've had NO LUCK in
upgrading my XP box to this one. I downloaded and installed Browse Mode
Enhanced, but, when I launch Window-Eyes, I get the message that Browse Mode
Enhanced is NOT supported using the version of Window-Eyes I have in my XP
box. I simply press on OK and I can go on and get work done with no
hassles.

Now do I have Window-Eyes 9.1.0 installed on any computer? I do! On my
laptop running Windows7 Professional. I don't get the message about Browse
Mode Enhanced I alluded to inter alia.

I also have a laptop in my office running Windows8.1 Professional; I just
installed Window-Eyes 9.0.0 in this box! It took me more than 30 minutes to
complete the installation process and I don't know why that was the case.
In fact, I had to get a pair of eyes to help me! In Windows XP, the
installation process took less than 10 minutes total, and I did not need any
pair of eyes!

I'll say go ahead and install Window-Eyes 9.0.0 in your Windows XP box; if
it doesn't work for you, you can always revert to version 8.4.0. It's
working for me, I don't see why it won't work for you. Yes, GW Micro/AI
Squared may not make any guarantees regarding XP, me thinks that's OK,
they're just following the trend.

Sincerely,
Olusegun

The default place where it opened to was the sappi voices and tabbing around
told me nothing about which synth in the list is the currently running synth
let alone which voice.
I then cursored over all 27 synths in the list but nothing read as a synth
being selected.

Re: introducing AT prime software with window eyes

2015-03-18 Thread David via Talk

OK, just gave that podcast a listen. Sure sounds interesting.

Yet, I strongly disagree in a solution that requires you to be online,
even if it is only for launching it. This kind of solution, is so deeply
digging into the way people will get access to their screen, that they
will become more or less completely depending on it. And then, what do
you do the day when your internet connection is down? You cannot even
launch the whole product, meaning that you now have to rely on the
built-in functionality of your screen reader. Since you have come to
depend on the info and operation of the AT Prime, you may have forgotten
- or even worse, never really learned - the way to operate the screen
reader itself. And, you may have learned to base your computer activity
on a software that the screen reader does not necessarily cooperate well
with. Now that your internet is down, you don't get a chance to launch
this extra piece of software, and are left out in the cold, dark blue;
with nowhere to go.

You know, it all reminds me of what recently has taken place on the
Android platform. First we saw the Eloquence voices hit the Android
market, and lately I think it was Ivona. In both cases, the
manufacturers decided to go for an online-based solution. Seems they
figured we live in a time and world, where internet is something
everybody are born with - a kind of an extension to our very body.
Sorry, but that is not the everyday of many users. The guy behind the AT
Prime, even is talking about developing countries who cannot afford. And
then, he forces them to pay expensive, unreliable internet connections,
for every time the product is going to be launched on your system.
Imagine, in those countries with an unstabil power supply. The computer
goes down ten times a day, due to power failure. And every time, you as
a blind user have to hope for your internet connection to be up running,
put aside a whole budget for online time, simply just to launch your
extra piece of screen reading technology.

Even in super-modern countries, like the North-Americas and Europe, we
know what a connection failure causes for trouble. Do I have to remind
people of the many complains GW received every time GWConnect did not
work? Why was that? Wasn't it namely due to the lack of connection for
an online service that people had come to rely on? And that was for a
chatting program, something people could do without. I doubt your
employer will accept you telling him, that you cannot read the screen,
just because there is some sort of connection-downtime. And it may not
even be on your side. It likely could just be on the service providers
side. Timezones are different, and when you in the North-Americas get up
in the morning, people in Australia have ended their working day. So,
the cloud is down, and you cannot get your job done, until tomorrow when
the Americas have had their lunch-break and got things sorted out.

At least, I am happy that Window-Eyes has not yet turned into a
cloud-based screen reader. Too bad, that people who develop good working
solutions, block their users from effective use, simply by relying on
third-party connections. The technology itself, may be well worth some
extra thought. And if the screen reader market would pick up the idea,
making the screens even more accessible, that would be great. But please
don't come this way around, and offer us cloud-based solutions. Too many

Re: How To ID Current Synth and Settings

2015-03-18 Thread Marvin Commerford via Talk
Hi. Make sure to open the devices node with the right arrow if it's
closed. Down arrow to synthesizer. From here the tab key is your
friend. The first list is the synthesizer, for example Eloquence
Window-Eyes. The next tab press takes you to the selected voice. So,
for example you may have English U.S. Reed selected. That's all there
is to it. If your selected synth has no alternative voices that option
won't show up, for example with my Doubletalk LT there's no list of
specific voices. Good lubk.

OK, just gave that podcast a listen. Sure sounds interesting.

Yet, I strongly disagree in a solution that requires you to be online, even
if it is only for launching it. This kind of solution, is so deeply digging
into the way people will get access to their screen, that they will become
more or less completely depending on it. And then, what do you do the day
when your internet connection is down? You cannot even launch the whole
product, meaning that you now have to rely on the built-in functionality of
your screen reader. Since you have come to depend on the info and operation
of the AT Prime, you may have forgotten
- or even worse, never really learned - the way to operate the screen reader
itself. And, you may have learned to base your computer activity on a
software that the screen reader does not necessarily cooperate well with.
Now that your internet is down, you don't get a chance to launch this extra
piece of software, and are left out in the cold, dark blue; with nowhere to
go.

You know, it all reminds me of what recently has taken place on the Android
platform. First we saw the Eloquence voices hit the Android market, and
lately I think it was Ivona. In both cases, the manufacturers decided to go
for an online-based solution. Seems they figured we live in a time and
world, where internet is something everybody are born with - a kind of an
extension to our very body.
Sorry, but that is not the everyday of many users. The guy behind the AT
Prime, even is talking about developing countries who cannot afford. And
then, he forces them to pay expensive, unreliable internet connections, for
every time the product is going to be launched on your system.
Imagine, in those countries with an unstabil power supply. The computer goes
down ten times a day, due to power failure. And every time, you as a blind
user have to hope for your internet connection to be up running, put aside a
whole budget for online time, simply just to launch your extra piece of
screen reading technology.

Even in super-modern countries, like the North-Americas and Europe, we know
what a connection failure causes for trouble. Do I have to remind people of
the many complains GW received every time GWConnect did not work? Why was
that? Wasn't it namely due to the lack of connection for an online service
that people had come to rely on? And that was for a chatting program,
something people could do without. I doubt your employer will accept you
telling him, that you cannot read the screen, just because there is some

RE: Enlist assistance resolving a web site issue

2015-03-18 Thread Van Lant, Robin via Talk
Don,
Not sure if you had another response on this. I'm frankly impressed at how far
you got on this form. Maybe the issue is that I'm only on WE 8.4 here in my
office and maybe this site would respond better with WE 9. What I see visually
where you pick a date is a calendar view for March and April -- the grid
format with the days of the week across the top. I found that if I did a
Insert Tab to pull up the link on the page, the calendar is actually labelled
really nicely "you are on Friday, March 13". If I hit on that link in the
dialog I'm placed on the calendar within the page and can tab between the date
links. I was only finding the pickup location combo box erratically, so I
don't' fully trust that my experience is like yours, but it's worth a try. I
was using Firefox.

Subject: Enlist assistance resolving a web site issue

I would appreciate it if one or more interested persons would check this
out and tell me if the issue described below is a screen reader issue or
is poor construction on the part of the web host.

Please go to:

www.usps.com ,

click on quick tools, then click on schedule a pickup.

At this point, you are asked to provide first name, middle initial, last
name, phone number, and email address, after which there is a 250
character edit field for any additional info to be entered. All of
these work fine for me either with Window-eyes 9.1 or JFW 16. I haven't
tried it with NVDA.

Now here is where I have a seemingly insurmountable problem. You are
presented with a combo box for selecting whether the package is to be
picked up on your porch or in your mailbox when the carrier delivers
your mail. This is okay, but the date selection mechanism just doesn't
work for me regardless of screen reader though there well may be
something which I am missing. So the question becomes "is it possible
to complete the scheduling of a package pickup using Window-eyes 9.1?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. By the way, I had similar results
regardless of whether I used Internet 11 or a recent version of Firefox.

It's a helper application that allows people to have access to controls
that wouldn't otherwise be accessible. Even if it's a non-standard
control, if there's any help text or a tooltip, AT prime can grab it and
make the control more meaningful to the user. Also, if the help text
isn't something meaningful, it's possible to create text labels for
controls so that they're more meaningful for folks. It's cloud-based,
so even if you're on a computer that isn't yours, you can still have
access to all your settings and everything, no matter where you are in
the world. I'm still not sure how it handles web pages, such as
non-standard flash controls and other things like that, but I'm certain
that we'll know more soon. I'm going to reserve judging it until i've
actually had a play with it, to see what it can do. from the demo I
heard though, it's pretty darn impressive.

And, you may have learned to base your computer activity
on a software that the screen reader does not necessarily cooperate well
with. Now that your internet is down, you don't get a chance to launch
this extra piece of software, and are left out in the cold, dark blue;
with nowhere to go.

Too many
experiences have shown that to be far too unreliable.

To the one posting the link, thanks for doing so. It was interesting to
listen to the podcast, and I welcome the initiative behind the upcoming
product. I just have a strong reaction to the cloud-basing, and want
people to be aware how that actually could turn what was meant to be a
great leap forward into accessibility, into somethin

Sad to say, I manages a couple of AD myself from 2003 and now 2012, all it's
the same when it comes to huge or multiple OU.
Cursor delay does not do much to me, sometimes it just got worst, so I
prefer to use ctrl - shift - s to read the actual item I am in.
it can't be the network being slow as I RDP into them to manage them
directly.
It started since 7.5 I think or so.
If you look at the group policy editor in all those new server, it have
delay reading as well.

Subject: Cursoring in Active Directory /Tree

Hello,

I am using Windows 7 and WE 9.1 with a set file renamed from default.set.

In Active Directory, the cursoring up or down reads the previous container
when in the first 3 branches. This also happens when navigating by typing
the first letter of the container. The settings for the up and down arrows
are set to read line. I have tried to change to read something else, but
that doesn't help. An example would be: we have departments like Public
Health and Public Works. If I am on Public Health and press the down arrow
to Public Works, WE says Public Health when it should say Public Works.
Likewise, when I arrow back up to Public Health, WE says Public Works. The
Windows Explorer or any other tree views do not behave like this.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get these arrow keys or typing
by first letter to read correctly?

Thanks,

David Ayers

Sorry for the OT but I really need some word adjustments for we to work

2015-03-18 Thread John Chilelli via Talk
Hi all,

I need to copy some documents I received via Outlook 2007 email and re-do
them in Word 2007. However all I am seeing in Word are tables and rows. We
reports that Word 2007 is in print mode when no document is displayed. How
can I fix Word 2007 to not show tables and colums or whatever, - just a
simple Word layout is all I need at this point.

Please be detailed concerning Word as I am new to the ribbon thingys.

Thanks for the help,

RE: cap enhanced app

2015-03-18 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Don,

I wrote this in response to Rick's difficulty distinguishing capital
letters, but I have not, as yet, posted it to App Central.
Unlike the CapBeeper app, my app actually raises the pitch more than
synthesizers do normally.
I'm just ironing out a few bugs and it should be ready to post in the coming
days.

Thanks for the interest,

Rod

I looked for the Cap Enhanced app at app central and can not locate it.
  What grouping is it under?

and install it on your computer, so you're not bothered if the net is
working or not, on that day.

It's a helper application that allows people to have access to controls that
wouldn't otherwise be accessible. Even if it's a non-standard control, if
there's any help text or a tooltip, AT prime can grab it and make the
control more meaningful to the user. Also, if the help text
isn't something meaningful, it's possible to create text labels for
controls so that they're more meaningful for folks. It's cloud-based, so
even if you're on a computer that isn't yours, you can still have access to
all your settings and everything, no matter where you are in the world. I'm
still not sure how it handles web pages, such as non-standard flash controls
and other things like that, but I'm certain that we'll know more soon. I'm
going to reserve judging it until i've actually had a play with it, to see
what it can do. from the demo I heard though, it's pretty darn impressive.

RE: introducing AT prime software with window eyes

2015-03-18 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi Guys: It is an interesting app.
I am looking forward to later this year to see how Paul fleshes out the
project.
My only thought is that if he can do this stuff, likely using UIA, why cant
the screen reader companies do it?
And, in fact, once he has a product on the market they will likely setup
similar features.
In any case it is a nice project and he has evidently put some time into it.
Showing up at Csun or whatever with a demo and creating a audio video is
another nice touch showing he is serious about putting something out.
But lets wait to see how he sets the project up for production.
Right now he is talking online, likely easier to manage and control any
pricing he might, or not, require but as some have noted it would be a good
app as a stand-alone download as well.
He has put himself out there in the public eye so lets see how well he
builds his product and his company.
Good luck to all who develop for others!
