Error when trying to find the reason I am short a Window-eyes for Office install count
When removing and re-installing both the Window-eyes for Office serial and Eloquence authorization in order to find the reason why I am missing an install count, I got the following error: This copy of Window-ees appears to be unlicensed, your serial and IP address have been sent to AI Squared. Anyone else encountered this? Not sure I understand the reason since I am running Window-eyes for Office which is free. ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. RE: What Was The Name Of The software To Change Key Functions
Hi rick, I think the person you are looking for was me. I explained how some apps could change the function of the keyboard and in some cases add functionality to it. My personal favorite it AutoHotKey. There are others of course, but this one just happens to be my personal favorite. Not only do I use it to remap keys at times but I also use it to launch my favorite programs with a quick press of a hot key. For example windows+alt+w launches window-eyes windows+alt+n starts NVDA windows+shift+w start winamp and so on. It makes my life a lot faster. Another nice thing is once you got it setup the way you want you can simply compile the script and send it along to your friends. They don't even need to have AutoHotKey installed. RE: Office 2013 ribbon tutorial
Hi Jim, One thing to notice about the ribbon is that it contains page tabs, so that you use the tab key for navigation once you find the tab you want using the arrow keys. However, within any page, Control-tab will move you through the various sections of controls, each section being a grouping of similarly-related controls. Pressing Control-tab is great also because if you keep using it you'll eventually get back to the list of page tabs where you can arrow to another one. It's not so bad a system really. RE: Num Lock
Hi Rick, Just following up this message which I had kept. The thing is that, for the lady, Carol, I wrote the app for, she says her brother's NumPad doesn't have a NumLock, but now it looks like the number keys on that NumPad don't have the normal alternate functions like normal Numpads do. So, now what? Smile Take care, Rod -Original Message- From: Talk [mailto:talk-bounces+rod_hutton=hotmail@lists.window-eyes.com] On Behalf Of Rick Thomas via Talk Sent: Saturday, April 25, 2015 5:29 AM To: 'Window-Eyes Discussion List' Subject: Num Lock Hi: OK, so we can either set the applications key function using auto hot key or use shift and f10 and that is ok. Now, why not have a WE setting in the control panel to lock the num lock setting and perhaps a hot key combo to toggle it? Using the f10 key would then become the default WE Applications key and the num lock could be toggled easily or set in the WE Control Panel. Just a thought on what seems an easy fix to a potential major headache for WE Users who get confused with the newer keyboards not having these keys. WE should work with modern technologies out of the box and this would eliminate these 2 problems me thinks. Searching for non-standard modern or outdated keyboards is not a good thing to force your clients into having to do to use your product when it is not necessary at all with minimal programming effort. Neither is having clients required to load up and use someone elses software like auto hot key - they should be able to buy the product, turn it on and use it - not turn it on and hope they can figure out some way to fix it before even using it. At least from the prior postings this would seem to be the case. Does this make sense or am I missing something? RE: What Was The Name Of The software To Change Key Functions
Hi Rick, I think it was me who posted about a free program named Key Tweak. I did a quick google and found it at: http://www.tucows.com/preview/327616/KeyTweak I used it because I bought a laptop which advertised it had a full keyboard, but it did not have an applications key, so I remapped some key on its keyboard which I wasn't using to be the applications key (for context menus). It was easy to use. Yes, I could have used shift-F10, but this keyboard has all 12 function keys pushed together with many keys at each end, and it's time consuming to count over to find F10. In other cases, you might not have an alternative to the key you need, and Key Tweak lets you pick a key and assign a key code to it. I took a look at the help page, and it all looks quite interesting anyway, if not helpful. I'm just wondering if those of you who use the Web interface find it to be all that blind friendly? If so, could you all tell me if there are any steps I should take when using WE to ease my adjustment to the whole thing? Any apps I should be aware of? I have yet to make my first post, or subscribe to my first mailing list, so will really be using for the first time. I may have mentioned this before, but I am hoping that Gmail will make it possible for me to subscribe to Yahoo groups based lists, because I haven't been all that successful with Comcast, so this is something I really don't want to have to do right now, but I have questions that I think would be a bit less than relevant to this list, although all of you have been most helpful. One more thing if I may. Does Gmail allow for using offline mail clients like Thunderbird? I tried using Thunderbird to set up its self with Gmail, and the attempt was rejected as a possible attempt at a hack. I tried it using IMAP, so maybe I should have tried with POP. Anyway, any ideas about this aspect would also be appreciated. iTunes Question
Hi All, I'm running the latest version of Window Eyes on a windows 64 bitHP 64 bit laptop. I haven't updated my iTunes version to the latest and thought I'd do so today. The thing of it is, every time I open iTunes, Window Eyes crashes. If I restart WE and open iTunes, it crashes again. It didn't do this before. Anybody have any ideas I can try to resoulve this issue? ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. Screen Reader compatible Keyboards. Was: Re: speaking of Dell computers...
Rick and the rest, This discussion, altogether reminds me the one that every now and than, has popped up around USB NumPads. Rick, how much we would love a list provided, for all keyboards on the market, and their compatibility, it will never work. I am going to deal with but a couple of reasons, some of them likely brand new to some of you. First of all, it is true, some keyboards need hardware specific drivers. Even Microsoft has a line of keyboards, which will need drivers, particularly designed for the keyboard to work fully. In some cases, the driver has a menu, or some sort of a control panel, to setup the exact behavior. For instance, my one Microsoft keyboard here, comes with a set of Quick keys, for launching your favorite net browser, your standard Email client, your desirable music player and so forth. Trouble is, the control panel provided by the driver, simply is useless with a screen reader, due to a totally graphical interface. Another Microsoft keyboard I have, is somehow doable to program, since the control panel for setting it up, is partially labelled with text on the screen. In both cases, should you decide you don't want to change the quick keys and their standard (default) behavior, you can run both these keyboards as plug-and-play. Plug them in, and enjoy the standard features, including an app-key, a numlock key, and standard behavior of the numeric keypad. My one Logitech keyboard, does not have a right-hand windows key, but does have an application key. My one Dell laptop has no app-key, no right windows key, but has an FN-key. The wireless keyboard I am on at this instance, has an app-key, a numlock-key, but has no Ctrl-key on the right hand, only on the left - which cause certain keystrokes no longer possible as one-handed strokes. What puzzles, is that all these keyboards are told - from the manufacturer and advertisers - to be standard keyboards. Might be worth to notice, that a desktop keyboard is considered standard, when it has anything between 101 and 105 keys, and that is except from quick-keys and multimedia keys. My point here is, that there is a literal jungle of manufacturers, and it would be hard to determine if each and everyone of them keeps to a full standard. Even one and same manufacturer may have different keyboards, often with more or less identical names and model numbers. As already described above, my two Microsoft keyboards, are somehow different in accessibility. And the history of some other users, buying three different Dell keyboards, before they landed on one that could do, will tell the same point quite well. A list of functional keyboards, should it take into consideration only the hardware, leaving the driver, control panel or other software for the keyboard out of the story? I did ask the local dealer of WE here, as well as the former GW staff, why they did not sell USB NumPads, which would have greatly increased the functionality of laptops. The answer I got both places, may well enough apply in the case of why they don't sell full keyboards either. The local dealer told me, they had found one USB NumPad, completely working with the screen reader. they wanted to play the safe part, and ordered in a good stock of this particular keypad, same brand, same model, same design. Only to realize, that half the keypads were useless, as they did not work properly with the screen reader. Why? Because the processor used inside the keypad, that is the very electronic part that sends the keystrokes to the computer for further handling, would alter from one production batch, to the other. That means in effect, you order three keyboards from one and same manufacturer, one each day. Day1, the keypad will work faultlessly with the screen reader. Day2, no chance. Day3, the same as day1. Now lets take a look on how the industry works. You buy a Dell computer, I buy an HP. Our grandmothers both decide to go for a Linovo. It is easy enough to determine that the dell comes with an AMD processor, the HP and Linovo both base their operation on Intel processors. This is something clearly stated on the box, and even in the advertisement. Window-Eyes is designed to be running likewise on both processors. Yet, no matter how close they are in design and specifications, you might once in a while end up with cases where a piece of software does work on one, but not so on the other. Was more of a challenge 15 years ago, but still may apply in very specific cases. The processor then does not matter much. but what about all the other one hundred pieces of hardware inside your computer. do you think that HP manufactur each and every component on their own, and so does Dell and Linovo? Promise you, the technology to manufacture just one of those electronic tiny pieces, is a technolgy that none of us on the list has the money and knowledge to build, manufacture and otherwise engineer. And before you claim

Why does this keep happening
Hello again, Does anybody else experience this particularly annoying problem? Periodically I have an issue where when I go to read a daisy book from Bookshare on my system, using the XML file, at times, and more often than I would like, the hot keys for place markers just wont work. Yesterday I had the problem, and it corrected itself only when I rebooted. OK, you might say, there's your answer, but really, who wants to have to reboot when these commands should work with a level of consistency. I notice a similar problem when using Winamp. Most of the time, I have to change my focus back and forth and my scripts will finally work. I mean, that usually does it in that instance without something as drastic as a reboot, thank God. Anyway, any input on this issue will be much appreciated. And who knows, maybe I'll leave you guys alone for a while smile. Hth Note if you are looking for something simpler then a little scripting program that will do everything you want let me know and I will see what I can dig up. I did use another program for this function years ago. -Original Message- From: Talk [mailto:talk-bounces+jgrimsby=roadrunner@lists.window-eyes.com] On Behalf Of Rick Thomas via Talk Sent: Sunday, April 26, 2015 7:58 AM To: 'Window-Eyes Discussion List' Subject: What Was The Name Of The software To Change Key Functions Hi: I remember a posting about a program that let one change the function of keys on a keyboard but couldn't find it in my list of deleted items folder in outlook under what I thought the subject line was.
