Re: is the wy fi blu tooth?

2015-11-27 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
True. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are different wireless protocols. But they are
sometimes bundled into a Bluetooth/Wi-Fi adapter. So the driver package
is the same because it's just a double duty device.

Again, your problem has nothing to do with the modem. It's the
bluetooth/wi-fi adapter in your laptop. Find the information on that in
Device manager, properties, driver.

Hi,

This is very good advice, and to this I would add that if a Win 10
driver isn't available, I think it's worth installing the Win 8.1
version, since these usually work well.

It's probably the Microsoft driver for your laptop's wi-fi adapter.
Typically Microsoft's drivers are one size fits all lowest common
denominator drivers that are supposed to get the bare bones essentials
working. This eliminates any other functionality the manufacturer has in
their driver package.

You should go into Device manager and get the information on your wi-fi
adapter and then go to the manufacturer's site or your computer
manufacturer's site and look for a Windows 10 driver package.

I wouldn't use the "check for driver update" option in Device Manager
either because it will probably tell you you've got the latest driver,
or, as I have seen, want to download an older driver. Then again, you
could give it a try if you want. Microsoft claims this has been improved
in Windows 10. So take that for what it's worth.

Hth,
Tom

Hi Michael,

Well, clearly the card is identified by Windows 10, and let us hope it has
been done accurately.
One question I have is whether connection is lost after closing the lid,
since you said it's a laptop?
If so, it may be due to the fact that the wireless card does not wake
properly from Sleep.

Just ruminating,

I will add "sound schemes," where windows offers many sounds which
can be used to clue you in as to what your computer is doing, e.g.
opening / closing any file, and I'm not talking about just the sound
schemes which Microsoft provides which are not complete in
themselves, but other sounds which windows provides events for, which
Microsoft does not have any default sound in the "names" schemes
directories under "media." You provide the sounds for the events, but
it is tricky setting up unless you've done it a hundred times as I
have, and so, depending on my mood for the day, I can use, for
example, the old "musica," scheme, or the "devenci," scheme, or "my
old friend," which I call it for most other times.
It would not be a hard tutorial to make, and have considered it
myself to help my friends who always ask me, but Mark it is a good
suggestion since window-eyes provides 6 events in it's own scheme,
which have to be integrated into all the schemes I have, or do create. :)

Re: still having wifi drop outs.

2015-11-27 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Hth,
Tom

can't you set the wy fi to only connect to your wi fi and ignore
everyone else?
also in my router i can change the wy fi channel to use and turn off
automatic
switching of the channels. so you could find a channel that is less
conjusted
and only use that one.

Hi Michael,

If you have other wireless networks nearby, you may be losing connection as
your wireless card attempts to join those and disconnects from yours.
This happened to me, and so I went to using hard-wired Ethernet cable,
and have
no problems anymore.

RE: Webinar and tutorial topics - feedback requested

2015-11-27 Thread Curtis Delzer via Talk

are a few examples to get your creative juices flowing:

1. Using the Start Menu in Windows 10

5. What is a Window-Eyes app?

Hi Darren,

You can’t use the touch screen with Window-Eyes, you’ll need to connect an
external keyboard (probably via Bluetooth).

Also, make sure the tablet is running a full version of Windows rather than
something called Windows RT.

Otherwise you should be fine.

Dear list,

I thought I did everything right and changing over from windows 7 to
windows 10 was going well. I got the window eyes 9.2 zip file like some of

RE: 32 or 64 bit, that is the question

2015-11-27 Thread Jim Grimsby JR. via Talk
My thoughts on this are mainly directed buy the amount of ram on your
system. If you have 4 gb of ram or less go with x86. If you have more then
4gb of ram then you will want to go with x64. Yes x86 will at some point be
fazed out. This will probably not happen soon how-ever. There are some
advantages to x64 but your system will probably not be able to take
advantage of them if it is an older system.

Subject: 32 or 64 bit, that is the question

Hi,

Well before the free W 10 offer expires, I'll update my W7 HP 32 bit system
to a flavour of W 10. It seems that the system must be upgraded to W 10 32
bit first, activated and then a clean install of W 10 64 bit can be
undertaken if desired. I think, although not confirmed, the update from W
10 32 bit to W 10 64 bit is also free.

So, my questions are:

Is 64 bit the comeing standard and so sooner or later 32 bit will be phased
out? i.e. Is it better to bite the bullet now rather than be tforced into a
change in the future? Also, my system would probably benefit from a clean
install regardless of the version of W 10.

Or, is there no real advantage in going up to 64 bit at present?

I know my system and printer will handle 64 bit and thankfully there is no
difference in versions of WE. That is unlike the opposition of course.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks
Neville.

The Win 10 tutorial was created from the perspective of a person using the
retail version of Window-Eyes, therefore the topic of dealing with an addon
synthesizer was not addressed. If you are concerned about losing one of your
Eloquence activations, use the activation manager to transfer the activation
back to the server before upgrading. Post upgrade, you can reinstall and
reactivate. The task of installing and activating a synthesizer is covered
in another tutorial. You can find it on www.WindowEyesForOffice.com on the
Voices page.

RE: Webinar and tutorial topics - feedback requested

2015-11-27 Thread Rick Blair via Talk
Hello Mark:

Below are some of my musings regardins trainings and webinars.

Audio editing using Audacity with Window eyes.

Tips to give the sighted so that they can produce accessible html emails.
How to alt tag images, links, etc. Segment emails using headings, etc.

Working with visual Studio.

Microsoft office, going beyond the basics:
Customizing and using the quick navigation toolbar.
Working with styles in MS Word.
Working with the recovered documents pain.
Working with the VBA editor. Note, this is not how to program, but more on
how to use the tools provided.
Working with the trace and formula error dialogs in MS Excel. Since the
trace seems too graphical, I am not sure if this has a way to use without
vision.
MS Outlook, managing views, like conversation. Grouping emails by date,
sender, sorting choices, etc.
Advanced slide automations in MS Power Point. Playing sounds, videos, custom
slide animation, etc.
Creating and entering data in a form in MS Word
Tips and techniques for collaborative document editing using MS Word with
multiple content creators, both sighted and blind.
How to create a document in MS Word so that it can be turned into a
navigable pdf document for screen readers.
Working with fields in MS Word (e.g. cross references, footnotes, document
references, Table of contents, etc.) How to navigate a document using
hyperlink references. Adding and removing headers and footers, filling out
headers and footers.
Managing contacts in MS Outlook
Working with MS Visio

If any of the above topics pique your interest, feel free to contact me off
list to discuss further.

Ai Squared would like to request your feedback. What topics, applications
and tasks would you like for us to cover in a future Window-Eyes webinar or
tutorial? The more information and details you can provide the better. Here
are a few examples to get your creative juices flowing:

1. Using the Start Menu in Windows 10
2. Finding apps in the Windows Store
3. Purchasing a product from Amazon.com
4. What is ARIA and how can it help me on the web?
5. What is a Window-Eyes app?

Thanks,
Marc Solomon

Paid Eloquence and Windows 10 install

2015-11-27 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi: I remember there were problems with the way WE handled the Eloquence
files during the Windows 10 upgrade process. That is there were some hoops
to jump through to get your paid copy of Eloquence back and running after a
Windows 10 upgrade. I don't see anything in the most recent tutorial on
installing and setting up windows 10 via the upgrade method related to this
problem. Has WE handled it or just not included it in their tutorial to keep
it cleaner and simpler?
Windows 10 says they levave all files intact so I would think the Eloquence
files and support files would be kept in place but there was nothing in
Marks tutorial I read on this unless I read the wrong one.
