How to Close Windows 10 Window

2015-12-07 Thread Peter Duran via Talk
The window that pops up asking you to install Windows 10 has no "close" button,
but don't dispair! Activate the "learn more" button, then in that window, you
can get rid of that pop up window forever.

I have started getting a message to upgrade to Windows 10, which I do
not intend to do. There's nothing in it to say "don't ask me
anymore." Even after closing it, it pops up again and again. It
also seems to make the computer unrsponsive when the Win 10 message is open.

Any suggestions as to how to get rid of this annoyance?

Thanks!

Don't know if Edsharp works under W10 32 or 64 bit as have not updated

As for Edsharp not being maintained, last time I checked, which would be
well in excess of 12 months ago, the same version was still available.
However, as I am not having any problems with the programme, it not
being maintained doesn't bother me at all.

 Scott,

I, too, have been frustrated with UltraEdit of late, but many of the
problems seem to have been fixed with version 22.20. I have found
that running the 32-bit version on a 64-bit machine works better for me.
 I have
found that responsiveness to scrolling windows is better if you set
the font quality to zero in the configuration setup on the Advanced
 menu pulldown.
The Font Quality is a combo that ranges from zero to six, but I
don't remember in which branch of the tree it is. You might also be
sure that you don't use the inverse cursor. There is an option to
use the vertical line in INSERT and OverType mode. Also try turning
off syntax highlighting unless you need that. I'm still
experimenting to figure out if there are other things that make
UltraEdit work better, but Version 22.20 seems to be a big
improvement. It now closes correctly. Just to be clear, whatever
changes were made that improve things were not present in version
22.10, so this change is part of what appears to be a minor version
 update.

Several people have told me they like Notepad Plus Plus. This is
usually written with two plus symbols at the end of "Notepad" but
they may not be pronounced unless one's punctuation is set
correctly. I have tried NotePad Plus Plus and it is pretty good,
but I had a lot of trouble with responsiveness to cursor movement
with Window-Eyes. Also, when you DOWN ARROW from the bottom of the
screen the screen scrolling seems very slow.
The built-in FTP is harder to use for me than UltraEdit's as well.

 Best regards,

 Steve Jacobson

 Hello,

What text editors do all of you like, especially the programmers out
 there.
I used Ultraedit for years, but the last few versions have been
getting worse with Windoweyes and there latest 64 bit version I am
 not liking at all.
TextPad has promise, but I am looking for other suggestions.
It does not need to be free, I am more than happy to pay for a good
 editor.
Of course, it must work very well with Windoweyes.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Re: selecting text

2015-12-07 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk
Sonya, one Caveat, this method only works in files where brows mode is
used, otherwise you can use the old shift+arrow keys to perform this
function.

At first, you might wonder why this should be so necessary, or at least
convenient. One way I find this method to be useful is when I wish to
select text from a web page, say from header to header or from link to
link. The F8 method locks the selection in place so that you don't have
to move manually through so much text in order to make that selection.
You don't even have to worry about accidentally losing your selected
text along the way, which can get quite frustrating. Instead, you can
just press the h or shift+h keys and voila, you have made your
selection, and you can once again press the F8 key where there will be a
dialog box with the option to copy the text to the clipboard where from
there you can copy your selected text to an editor or what ever. I
really hope the people at I Squared never do away with this new method
of selecting because it works so well, even though occasionally I forget
to press the button to copy selected text to the clipboard.
