Re: Help Word Margins

2016-02-16 Thread M Dorn via Talk
In MS Word 2003 which I use, it's alt then f then u. This gets you
to the file menu and then page setup. You start in the box for top
margin. You can either type in the number you want such as 1.5 for 1
and a half inches, assuming your set up using inches as the unit of
measure, or you can arrow up or down to adjust the value. Tab to
bottom and left and right margins and do the same thing in each
one. Then hit Enter for OK when you have what you like.

FileZilla with virus and mouse keys

2016-02-16 Thread Neville via Talk

Hi,
The latest version of FileZilla no longer works with the mouse keys and
doing a Google search on the subject, discovered FillaZilla came with a
virus. The messages were dated last year so don't know if this problem
has been fixed or not. However, with the mouse keys no longer allowing
access to the screen it is time to try something else.

So, can someone recommend a supported free FTP programme which works
well with WE?

Thanks

Re: WE Vs. Fusion

2016-02-16 Thread Reeva Webb via Talk
Hi, approaching the end of my fusion trial. There's we key layout you can
change fusion to in settings. That's the first thing I changed. It's
pretty much we and zt working good together finally. Outside of a couple
app hot keys i had to change there was no issue for me going from using we
and zt together as seperate products to fusion. Unfortunately, there
isn't a way to just restart the screenreader part. You have to restart the
whole program, which takes forever most likely due to the zt part though
ai2 said a update was ciming to help with this issue. I like it. If you're
in the Really low vision boat like me and rely mostly on speech but still
use magnifacation for some things fusion is a program i suggest buying.

2016-02-16 Thread bob jutzi via Talk

No luck for me using the latest Thunderbird and Window-eyes.
I still am unable to edit messages in Thunderbird as well as edit forms
in IE or Firefox. This is completely unacceptible as I have no issues
with either using the free screen reader.

Use the three steps below to make both Firefox and Thunderbird

assistance for Firefox. For some reason WE kept loosing speech in the

A similar method has been around for a while but never had any success

the change in mouse accessibility the alterations made.

Hopefully, someone can come up with a method to make Chrome mouse

Unfortunately it is not known for sure whether this technique will work
as well under W8 and W10 as it does under W7 32 and 64 bit. If you do
try it under W8 or W10, please inform the list of your results. i.e.
Either positive or negative.

This is the three steps needed to fix the mouse cursor problem.

The third step is the new one. You do have to arrow down many times to
find it. A lot do seem to sound the same, so be careful you get the
correct one to change.

WE Vs. Fusion

Hi:

Haven't seen much on this list, but, I'm curious about fusion.

How much like Window-Eyes is fusion if you turn off the ZoomText
functionality?

Looks rather similar, but, the hotkeys are different and I don't seem to see
an option to restart the screen reader if things lock up.

Otherwise, I almost have the feel I'm running Window-Eyes whenever I just
use the screen reader part.

Thanks!

I am retiring.

My career in the Assistive Technology industry started in the late 80's,
working for Computer Aids Corp. for a couple years, where I met Doug
Geoffray. Then I partnered with Doug to launch GW Micro in 1990 which
operated for 24 years, followed by our merging into Ai Squared in 2014. So
now, after almost 28 years in the AT industry, it's time for me to take a
break. I will be retired from Ai Squared after this week. No worries - the
rest of the Fort Wayne office and staff will continue as normal - whatever
normal means .

I'm not very active on this list but I look at many of the posts and I know
many of your names even if we rarely talk on the phone or meet in person. I
will continue to support Ai Squared and if the opportunity presents itself
who knows - I might come back for a few special projects from time to time.
Thank you very much for your support and friendship.

One thing I understand - this industry is very different from all others.
The people I know not only want to stay active, employed or stay in business
but they also want to make the world a better place by providing quality
products and services. You should all be proud of whatever contribution you
personally make.

Thank you all again for your friendship and loyalty over the many years.

In the case of Web Root Security Anywhere, it was not white-listed. This
means that the antivirus software grabs some of the DLL files and corrupts
your installation of WE.

We know this as we have experience with it on both a Windows 8.1 machine as
well as a Windows 10 machine. Chris Grabowski confirmed that this product
did not white-list WE.

We finally got Web Root Security Anywhere removed from both machines with
the help of Best Buy's Geek Squad. Once this was done, Ray re-installed 9.0
on the Windows 8.1 machine and downloaded 9.3 and all is working as it
should.

He was unable to use the installation he had on our external hard drive as
Web Root corrupted that installation. For this reason, he went to AI
Squared's website and downloaded 9.3 for my Windows 10 mahine as the method
he used for the Windows 8.1 machine would not work. I am happy to say that I
am now running WE 9.3 on this machine and I'm one happy camper.

If anyone offers you Web Root Security Anywhere, run from it as it grabs DLL
files and corrupts your WE installation.

I would agree that accessibility of antivirus packages is the next frontier
in accessibility to technology.

Subject: Dan is retiring

Take care,

Dan

Hi I am using window-eyes 9.0 and windows 7.
How do you get the mouse keys in window-eyes to read in Firefox,
Thunderbird, and internet explorer?
I used to be able to do this.
Then I had Microsoft remote in to my computer and they had to do A
repair on windows and then didn't delete anything.
But now when I try to read with the3 mouse in any of the programs that I
stated earlier in this message.
all is I get is DING, DING, DING.
When I try
--
Casey
to read with the mouse keys in any of those programs.
I am soon going to upgrade to the latest version of window-eyes.
So then will that fix this also?

RE: WE

2016-02-16 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi Jonathan:
This well could be the case.
Vbs is no longer supported by the Microsoft browsers either.
Perhaps this is one reason why.
There may also be problems because of the multi-threading nature of the newer
operating systems and the Microsoft Framework classes which also are using more
and more async processing as well.
I don’t know for sure but the bones of WindowEyes are getting pretty old and
brittle me thinks as I remember them from many years ago and I don’t think they
have changed that much.

RE: the pronouncing dictionary

2016-02-16 Thread via Talk
If you know where the entry is that you want to delete--for example, if
you're certain the entry is in excp.dic--then you can do this.

Control backslash to open the WE control panel.
Alt-F for file, E for explore profile folder.
The list of your set files, character dictionaries, pronunciation
dictionaries, etcetera is presented.
Press the first letter of the dictionary name until you land on it.
Press the application key or Shift-F10 to open the context menu and choose
the open with menu item.
When the dialog opens, choose notepad and press enter.
Notepad launches and you are presented with a list of dictionaries. Here is
an example of part of my excp.dic contents that I copied from Notepad.

anapest=annapest
golive=go live
nietzsche=neetcheh
amphibrach=amfuhbrack
teotihuacan=tayoateewahcan

If I wanted to remove the amphibrach entry, I would put the cursor at the
beginning of the line containing the entry, then press Shift-End to
highlight the word and its replacement. The delete key removes the entry and
then I'd save the dictionary with Control-S.

After removing an entry in this way, you must restart WE.

You can remove an entry from within the WE control panel by navigating to
the dictionary node in the settings tree view as well. To me, all that
tabbing to the include program check box and then to the pronunciation
dictionary node and then to the list of dictionaries and then to the
dictionary contents is slower and relatively clunky, but it can be
accomplished in less than a day, I'll bet. Things get a bit more complicated
if the program has its own dictionary. Before you can find an entry in the
program dictionary, you must first visit the dictionaries> status dialog and
check the include program dictionary check box and save the setting. Then
you must select your dictionary from the list of available dictionaries. Tab
tab tab tab.

By the way. Why have accelerators been removed from some of the WE dialogs?
Now, instead of Alt-k for cursoring keys, it's tab tab tab and shift tab
shift tab shift tab. The cursoring key first action used to say I first
action and now that accelerator no longer works. The problem seems to be
with edit boxes, combo boxes and list views in WE itself. Was this
purposeful or is it a glitch, or maybe just an oversight?

Hope I helped and didn't confuse you,
Lou N.

RE: Starting Narrator in Windows 7

2016-02-16 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Narrator is the Microsoft Screen Reader of sorts.
I don't know how you start and stop it in windows7 but the windows key and
enter will start it in windows10.
It is not very good as an intuitive screen reader but in windows10 you can
set it to read items, characters, words etc... and it helps in debugging
problems where windoweyes is not speaking.
Often when WindowEyes wont speak I can fire up narrator move around the page
or form and windoweyes will come back and I then turn narrator off.

Windows10 Start Item

2016-02-16 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
How do we navigate the start item to find things?
I have had mixed results using the arrow keys and have on occasion heard
things like the weather and even a Get Office item read but then cant find
them when looking for them.
I can find a bunch of usual suspects over and over using the arrow keys but
others I can not find but know they are there since I hear them from time to
time.
What is the solid, consistent and reliable way of finding everything in that
start item?
I look under the Life At A Glance I think but not even sure about that.

Before this closing with alt-f4 was returning me to the taskbar.
How do I even guess at what might be going on unless it has something to do

Any ideas how to narrow down the source of these problems like what app or

Hi: This has been happening to me as well lately.
I will open a program, do some work and close it and I end up on the task
bar, either the start item or if focus is lost during working in the program
sometimes in the view task button item on the task bar instead of being
returned to the desktop.
Also, often when WE seemingly locks up if I tab I find I have been placed in
the task bar even if in other programs and especially when things start
slowing down, we starts locking up for a few seconds etc...
It seems WE is struggling at figuring out where focus should be, where the
user is working or where something is going on someplace in the task bar.
Also, sometimes, all the time pretty much, if I boot up and sit for a few
seconds on the desktop I hear WindowEyes speak the words "Clear Button" and
then WE is locked up as far as the arrow keys are concerned and I think I
find myself in the task bar once again.
Tabbing will get me back but there sure sounds like there are some problems
with how WindowEyes is handling automatic dynamic actions occuring in
Windows10 when it comes to the insertion point and the focus positions.
Finally, when WE locks up if I fire up narrator I hear WindowEyes, not
narrator, speak "Give Us Feedback" then narrator will say "Starting
Narrator" I forget if window eyes speaks the "Give us feedback" before or
after narrator says "starting narrator" will now start narrator while typing
to see...
OK WE speaks, while in this message, "Give us feedback" before narrator
starts speaking.
I closed narrator and WindowEyes was locked up, no arrow keys until I tabbed
and WE then came back so I could type but there was a tab character in this
message - I removed it, but that indicates that focus and the insertion
point were not in the same place or something along those lines which sounds
like what allot of these problems may be related to for WindowEyes.
