What advantage will an accessible Edge browser be over Internet Explorer?

2016-02-24 Thread Kevin Minor via Talk
Hi.

The subject says it all. I'm a happy user of IE, but there may be some things
that Edge will do that it can't. The only thing Edge will have over IE is it
will be more current.

The discussion of different browsers reminds me of 20 years ago. Back then,
the browser of choice was Netscape. I was happy using that, then IE came
along. It took screen readers a while to work with the new browser, but they
eventually did. I figure that Edge will be similar.

Just some thoughts and a question to ponder.

Have a blessed day, and don't work too hard.

chrome bookmark manager

2016-02-24 Thread crw9599 via Talk
Hi there. I was checking out Google chrome book mark manager and
noticed an organize button, hit enter or space bar I don't hear
anything. I would like to export my book marks as a back up was
wondering why window eyes is not reading I guess a tool bar or
something? I even tried it with NVDA no luck there either. I just don't
get it, how comes fire fox reads the book mark manager all of the
buttons so I know what is there and chrome in that part of the screen
the book mark manager window is not reading that and I have it
maximized. I do have the fire fox bookmarks backed up but not Google
chrome. It sure would be wonderful if there was a fix so I can back up
my chrome bookmarks. Has anyone else felt this way?

this has happened 3 times with a upgrade and with 2 clean re installs.
i got locked out of my own account and i could only log in as a guest
there is still many places in windows 10 where window eyes will lag behind,

microsoft wants us to use the windows 10 mail program which is still not

RE: Update Warning

2016-02-24 Thread Kevin Minor via Talk
Hi.

I was one of those who went from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 the day it was
released, but I had some issues with this PC. Elloquence would get stuck on a
phoneme, and the only way to fix it was to turn the PC off and back on again.
Even worse, the PC would randomly reboot itself. I ended up sending it to the
Lenovo hospital where they replaced the hard drive. Thankfully the computer
was still under warranty, so I didn't have to pay for the repair. I then
decided to give Windows 10 another try, but the same thing with speech getting
stuck happened again. I called up Microsoft Accessibility and reverted to
Windows 8.1. I was a happy user of 8.1, until a couple of weeks ago when my
speech did what it did in 10. I discovered that the problem was in the USB hub
that I had my external sound card and wireless keyboard connected to. I then
decided to once again try Windows 10, and, knock on the wooden computer table,
I've had no problems. I upgraded on February 13, so it's be
en a little less than two weeks ago.

I'm sharing this to let those who think it's important to update to the latest
OS that there are circumstances where this may not be the best thing to do.
Believe it or not, I have a PC that will be fifteen years old in October of
this year, and it has XP on it. I haven't had a single problem with that old
desktop PC, and it has been on constantly for most of its life. I have a ham
radio program on it which allows other ham radio operators the ability to
connect to a radio that I have hooked to the PC so that they can talk to hams
in the Lexington, Kentucky area. Sometimes the latest and greatest thing isn't
necessary. Don't get me wrong, I really like Windows 10, and I don't regret
upgrading to it on my Lenovo laptop. Just realize that not everybody has
different levels of hardware that may limit them to a certain OS.

Just something to consider.

Have a blessed day, and don't work too hard.

major thunderbird problems

2016-02-24 Thread Jed Barton via Talk
guys, i can not deeal with this thunderbird problem. There hss to be
something wrong. It's virtually unusable. Even after someone suggested
i downgrade, it's no better, in fact it's even worse. I'll start typing
a message, and it just says stuff like no frame, not a valid key press.
The only way to fix it is to turn browse mode off. Why should i ahve
to do that, cause then i can't edit anything unless i turn browse mode
back on. Why would it do this. I'm typing best, i'm not even on a web
page. Is anyone else having these issues with TB?Guy

Re: Update Warning

2016-02-24 Thread Andy Baracco via Talk
The main concern for me is that I have an older computer with older
peripherals. I'm sure my computer can run Windows 10, but I fear that there
may not be Windows 10 drivers for my peripherals, meaning that I will have
to spend money to replace them, so this isn't necessarily a painless or free
deal for me.

I just can't figure out why so many are afraid of Windows 10. You can
update to windows 10 for free until July 17 of this year. After that,
it will cost $100.00. Windows 10 is much faster and more secure that
Windows 7 and easier to use and faster than windows 8 and 8.1.

RE: vlc media player

2016-02-24 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi,

If the app is not encrypted, it would be simple to add a hotkey to allow
disabling it on the fly, or you could just do it yourself from the App
Manager.
Oh, and what about defining a hotkey under Miscellaneous hotkeys for
toggling All Voices?

Hth,

Rod

so far i have had no need for any of the optional updates.
i wish microsoft would use descriptions instead of hideing behind meaningless

you may hide the update. but the gwx program that downloads the patch is still
there in the system32 folder.
and the windows 10 setup files are already on your computer in a hidden folder
waiting to be installed.

bt_windows
try the gwx control program to delete all of this.
you can re run it as needed to check that the gwx program has not installed

RE: malware bytes accessibility

2016-02-24 Thread John Farley via Talk
Hello Tom,

Are you using the free or pro version, which is paid for? The Pro version
does run at all times and so should give a better level of protection.

I ask because I have found it very difficult, if not impossible, to get the
necessary id and key installed into this later version. I have only been
able to install them into the old version.

Unfortunately neither the software distributors nor the manufactures were
able to help me.

I'm running the latest version (2.2) and it works fine with Window-Eyes
9.3 On Windows 7 and 10.

Regarding the recent vulnerability? Here's the blog post at their site.
If you have the premium version you can solve this by turning on
Self-protection under Settings Advanced. If you don't have premium you
Don't have any protection other than an after the fact manual scan.

Re: Now, apparent video card issue

2016-02-24 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk

Hi Pam,

And you in deed may be right, I'll have to some how look that up, or try
getting a good explanation from the list on the matter. However Chris
cgrabowski told me that the cause of the downward beeps were most likely
related to a video card issue, and therefore suggested that I update my
video drivers, which I did, but experienced no change. Since this thing
crept up not long after, but with some delay, after I had reloaded a new
compilation of my default/profile folder, I knew, as he did, that the
new beeps at WE startup weren't related to the reinitialization of WE,
so to speak. Therefore, the suggestion of the V card drivers. I know, it
doesn't seem to make any more since than that above explanation might
have, but there it was.

I finally decided that the only way to make sure it got done right was
to just break down and do a system restore. A bit drastic I'll admit.
But after my experience with most of my apps disappearing after a power
outage over the weekend, I just wanted to get things back to normal.

About the only good thing I can say about such an experience is that you
can learn some new things, both, about the OS, as well as WE. Kinda
sharpens you up a bit, but that's enough Techno drama for me for a while.

another matter that I hope someone can help me get beyond.

For some reason, apparently my video driver or something became
corrupted,

and now I get the descending beeps every time WE starts up, and I can no
longer use my virtual mouse.

I just updated the driver for my AMD Radeon HD7570 video card through the
Windows device manager, and that didn't help at all. So, once again, I'm
left scratching my head. And to think I was nearly out of the woods.

I went to the AMD driver page to see about downloading a driver from
there,

but must admit to being a bit confused about just how to go about
downloading the correct driver for my Dell XPS 7500 system, just
hoping that

their driver will be even more up to date.

It seems I remember people having such a problem on the list rather
recently, but don't know just how, or if they ever solved the problem.
This isn't something I think I can just live with.

Again, if someone could please offer me some good advice, or better yet,
real help in solving this sudden problem, it would really be appreciated.

Thanks,

Larry

This is yet one of the reasons why Window-Eyes and JAWS need to get off the
video intercept drivers. They are clearly not needed anymore and I have
noticed that the video drivers can slow down your system.

Greetings.

Have you tried disabling the driver from within device manager?

Good luck.

Well listers, I am happy to say that with a bit of help from some good
