I'm running a Windows 7 machine, and I use Eudora. It's the only

outlook and nuts

2016-03-14 Thread Don Smith via Talk
Morning all:

As the subject says, nuts with computers.

Ok, I am running windows 7 and all we updates but, not 9.4

When starting all is seemingly ok, but, after the 2 chimes, I hear what I
call a musical klunk

I do get the prompt to download 9.4, but, choose not at this time.

Previous, all I had to do was open outlook from the desktop, and right away,
I hear all of my emails and can open them.

Now, although outlook opens, it says no selected item and of course no
emails

However, when I do a control y, I have emails in the in box and don't know
how to open them, And Ido not want to get them this way.

I want to open outlook and my emails are there.

So, what is this musical klunk?

Why are my emails not showing up?

And I put my hand on the box and it seems something is running.

Now if I boot up, get the desktop and wait for a long, long time, the emails
appear.

Now is the klunk telling me I have new apps?, is it that that drated wanting
me to get windows 10?

All else on the computer is working with no problem

No virus, no malware, no spyware,

Don

News app can't read stories

2016-03-14 Thread Bob Tinney via Talk

Hi,

I've just started using the Microsoft news app in Windows 10 and I can
read the story buttons which are described with the title of the news
story. If I activate the story button that I want to read, a window
opens up but I can't read it. If I use virtual view and its OCR, I can
read the first sentence of the story and that's all. What am I doing wrong?

Return from Sleep Mode in Windows 7 Problem Still!

2016-03-14 Thread Peter Duran via Talk
Hello

I have a Word 2010 document open with focus. I put my Windows 7 laptop to
sleep by closing its lid. I lift the lid and press the Enter key (or any
key)to resume Windows operation.

Before WE 9.4.0, focus would be on the WE control panel screen. Now, after the
fix, focus is on the open Word document, but nothing is spoken when navigating
with Arrow keys until I press Ctrl + \ and then Escape to start speech output.

2016-03-14 Thread Chip Orange via Talk
Hello,

I'll put in one vote for updating your Outlook to whatever version you can now
get from MS. Don't know if you are aware, but you don't have to pay a large
price up front, you can pay something like $5 a month for Office 365 and you
get all of the Office programs.

Since you're used to Outlook, and since AI has put so much work into making
Outlook work well with WE, why not give it a try? You also get all the side
benefits of calendaring, tasking, etc. I have to say, I don't know what I'd do
without Outlook calendars, since I keep my and my wife's calendars mixed
together, and I see them both at home on both of our pcs and at work on both of
our pcs, it's really worth learning how to use Outlook calendars I believe.

RE: 9.4 and Excel; was Upgrade

2016-03-14 Thread Chip Orange via Talk
Hi John,

Has it done this to you even after a reboot?

It did this to me immediately after the upgrade; but when I rebooted from that
session, I went into Excel 2010 and it talked as expected as I moved around
with the cursor keys.

If it's reliably happening to you, do you have anything else running at the
time you run Excel? Any other programs set to run automatically? Do you have
the Windows advertisement window urging you to buy Windows 10 (this seems to
cause me lots of strange effects).

I use excel in office tan more than most any other program and I am using a

Yes ... that's my understanding of the Microsoft program called Office 365.
This gives you access to all of Office both the web internet, and the Windows
versions.

My employer has a corporate license, which extends to my use at home, so I
can't give you exact links and details, but if you query of Office 365 you
should have no trouble finding it. I do believe you have to download
everything, they don't give you physical discs and manuals.

RE: Get Window-Eyes 9.4 for the best Windows Experience

2016-03-14 Thread Chip Orange via Talk
Yes, those initial few hours when everyone is trying to do it are usually not
the best time to try. I also could not do it then, realized that was why, and
just waited a few days. Then it worked first time out of the box.

I downloaded 9.4 successfully, but it took 3 tries. I had to shut down and
try again, twice. Then it worked.

Guys,

My guess is that as soon as the announcement goes out, all gazillion thousand
users try to go get the update at the same time, and the AI Squared servers beg
for mercy. So, like everyone else, they probably have tricks to management to
rollout to try and avoid some of this.

I know my TiVo and my IOS on the Iphone and my Nest thermostats all have some
rollout schedule in place so that all users don't get updated at the same
instant.

Windows Media Player question

2016-03-14 Thread Van Lant, Robin via Talk
I have copied some old VHS movies onto my hard drive into MPG files. Running
Windows 8.1 and Window Eyes 9.4, launching any of these movies will load them
into Windows Media Player so my kids can watch these old m movies. Is there a
way to use the keyboard to fast forward and rewind in the videos while playing?
I think I saw in a menu that Control P plays the movie, but so far I just let
the movie start when I click on the file to run. If there is no accessible way
to fast forward and rewind, do you recommend another simple media player? This
is about the only thing I do with the media player, so I don't really want to
pay for something.

Thanks.
Robin

Re: Windows Media Player question

2016-03-14 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
I don't use media player but a Google search of "Windows media player
keyboard shortcuts" gave me a link to all of them.

Control-P play/pause.
Control-S Stop.
Control-Shift-B rewind.
Control-Shift-F fast forward.
Control-Shift-B is the Window-Eyes mouse boundary hot key and
Control-Shift-F is mouse search. So you'll have to hit Insert-B to
bypass them. Alternatively you can associate a set file with the media
player, change them to program scope, and undefine or change them. Then
save the set.

Here's a link to the page with all of the shortcuts:
https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2009/06/16/keyboard-shortcuts-for-windows-media-player-in-windows-7/

Hth,
Tom

new to Outlook 2016

2016-03-14 Thread bob jutzi via Talk
I just subscribed to Office365 so now have the latest Outlook 2016. It does
appear quite accessible; however, is there anything I can to do to somewhat
streamline things mainly eliminate all those buttons when tabbing around? I
did go under Advanced Options and choose Inbox as default.
I'm interested in anything else I can do to improve Outlook's usability with
Window-eyes.

Years ago I was using Eudora then I switched to Outlook. Then I got a
windows 10 machine and I put Eudora in it. Eudora works so well I had to
wonder why I switched, so I took outlook out of my windows 7 machine and put
in Eudora.

Question about ctrl shift R

2016-03-14 Thread Robert Ringwald via Talk
Windows 10

I thought ctrl R was supposed to include all addresses in To and CC:?

The computer just dings when I use that command trying to reply to an email.

Re: Question about ctrl shift R

2016-03-14 Thread Nick Sarames via Talk
I believe control-shift R is reply to all; control-r is reply to the
sender. However, control-shift R is read to end in Window-eyes. If you
go to your context menu, just arrow to reply all and hit enter.
