GWKB2049 - Exit Protected View In Microsoft Office

Author:

Jeremy Curry

Date Added

: 12/02/2013

Last Modified

: 12/02/2013

When a document is in Protected View, you will not be able to read or edit
the document. When this happens, you will hear "Protected View" announced
after the file name. Documents will open in Protected View if Office 2010
or 2013 determine that the file originated from the internet or a
potentially unsafe location (such as a shared folder on your local network
or an email attachment). To exit Protected View, perform the following
steps:

1.Press F6

2.Tab to the Enable Editing button

3.Press Enter

If you find that the above steps are not working for you, there is an
alternate way to exit Protected View. To use this method, perform the
following steps:

1.Press Alt

2.Press F to open the File button

3.Press I to focus the Info tab

4.Press E to activate the Enable Editing button

You will then exit Protected View and you can begin working with the
document. For a video tutorial on how to turn off Protected View, please
visit http://www.gwmicro.com/Training/Tutorials/.

Permanently Disable Protected View

It is possible to completely turn off Protected View, so that you do not
need to turn it off on a per document basis. To permanently disable
Protected View, perform the following steps:

1.Press Alt-F to open the File button

2.Press T to open Options

3.Down Arrow to Trust Center

4.Press Alt-T to activate the Trust Center Settings button

5.Down Arrow to Protected View

6.Tab to the Enable Protected View for files originating from the
Internet check box

7.Press Space to uncheck the box

8.Tab to the Enable Protected View for files located in potentially
unsafe locations check box

9.Press Space to uncheck the box

10.Tab to the Enable Protected View for Outlook attachments check box

11.Press Space to uncheck the box

12.Tab to the OK button

13.Press Enter and the Trust Center dialog will close

14.Tab to the OK button

15.Press Enter and the Word Options dialog will close

A mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work if it isn't open.

Hi Veronica,

If you mean attachments are protected, then, once saved, you can click on
the Unblock and then Ok buttons in the Properties dialog for the file.

Hi Veronica,

From within the window of the open email message, you should be able to open
the File menu, arrow down to Save attachments, and press Enter.
This should open the standard browse to lacation dialog.
I know that, normally, Control-Alt-A is the recommended method, but I
thought I would recommend the least complicated method. Smile

Veronica,
I think what you want is
Diagnostics.
It is in your list of running apps
Just press alt from the Window-Eyes control panel and right arrow to apps.
Down arrow to Diagnostics and press enter.
Refresh accessibility libraries is the second one down.

And press enter.

Until last week, when there was an update to an ap,p I used a box popped up
telling me which apps needed an update. Apparently this changed and now I
have an auditory signal that an update is available but the scfreen that
offered me choices and mentioned which update needed an update has vanished.
Any suggestion as to how to get back the tone and voice signal that includes
what has an update available would be appreciated. I’ve spent a fair piece
of time looking on my own and have decideed asking would be more time
efficient. Thanks.

I cannot speak to why this occurred for you, as I've never had good luck with
the spellcheck window. You are better served to use the alt semicolon and alt
apostrophe spell check commands in Outlook just as you do in Word. These are a
Window Eyes function and I find it much more useful. The reason I leave my
Outlook spell check window enabled is to remind me to spell check (in which
case I just escape out of the spell check window and us the above commands) and
because the spell check window will catch errors in my subject line that the
window eyes commands will not.

names not showing up in thunderbird

2016-05-03 Thread Jed Barton via Talk

Hey guys,
I don't know if my message has made it across. When i am arrowing down
my messages in Thunderbird, it is reading the subjecfts, but not
announcing who it is from. Is there any settings i should check? This
seems to be new in the latest TB. I can't recall making any changes.
Any ideas?

Re: radio and combo buttons

2016-05-03 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
Oh that's right. I have seen the problem with entering on combo-boxes.
But it's so rare I can't remember the last time it happened. To me it's
worth the increase in productivity if I have to go back on the rare
occasion I hit one of those funky combo-boxes.

As for radio buttons? Enter toggles browse mode off, selects the button
I'm on, browse mode is toggled back on, and I arrow up/down once to
confirm. Again, it's just more efficient to me. And all of this is mute
if I'm tabbing through a form.

Regards,
Tom

this is not always true.
some combo boxes will take you to another web page when you click enter
on them. you have to manually turn browse mode off and alt enter. then
you can get to all the options in the list.
with radio buttons you can press enter on them but w e will not tell you
if they have been checked or not until you tab away and back again. then
w e will tell you it has been checked.
aisquared has confirmed this behavior on all web pages that have radio
buttons.
if you have several radio buttons to choose from it will work better if
you go to the first radio button then turn browse mode off.
then you can arrow through the list and w e will tell you which one is
checked as you arrow through the list.

For what it's worth, you don't have to turn browse mode off on a
combo-box or radio buttons. I just hit Enter on a combo-box and then
Alt-Down. Hitting Enter turns off browse mode. On radio buttons I again
just go to the one I want and hit enter. Browse mode turns off, selects
that radio button, and then comes back on.

Hth,
Tom
