Re: Is There Any Way of Using the New Mail Ap In Windows 10?

2016-07-25 Thread Russ Kiehne via Talk

I saw the following on another list. Hope it helps:

Hi,
Here is a tutorial about using the win10 mail app and calendar app on a PC.
This tutorial is straight from information that I have used from a web site
on a MS help page. The link is a little below my comments and then the
information is laid out. The step by step help to use the win10 and calendar
apps , given on this website, is what you will read first. Then, all of the
key commands for using the win10 mail and calendar apps given on this web
site will follow after the articles of step by step help. .

Let me please
let you know this. When you import your email accounts into the win10 Mail
app,
your contacts are automatically imported into the People app. Your contacts
from
your accounts that you imported are saved in the People app. So, if you want
to
work with your contacts, you have to do this in the people app and not the
mail
app. Think of it like this. Three apps work together to give you that MS
outlook

client experience. The people app has all of your contacts. The mail app is
where you work with and send your email messages. The Calendar app has all
of
your appointments and much more. Now, while you are in the win10 mail app,
you
can switch to the Calendar by pressing CTRL+2 and back to mail by pressing
CTRL+1.
Many of the commands are the same as in WLM. Now, even though your contacts
and

their emails are in the people app, you will get a list of contacts you can
enter on as you type in an address. If you type a few letters into the
address
field and down arrow, there will be a list of results you can enter to send
your
email to them. So, in that since, the people app and the mail app are
working

together along with the calendar app. The first material I will put in this
message, is all of the articles that take you step by step to do everything
in

the mail app. You will know how to send and download attachments, and even
format tables in the mail app by the time you read all of the info I am
about to

paste. After the Articles, there will be a very long section of every key
command in the win10 mail app and the calendar app. You can decide which
part of
this email you want to look at first. You can look at the section that has
all
of the key commands first, or you can go through the articles step by step
and

do everything from importing your accounts into win10 mail app to formatting
messages you send. It is all here, and if you use JAWS, it should all work.
Only

one thing if you use JAWS. For some reason, with me, there is one little but
important work around I must do. When I open a message, before I can read it
with the arrow keys like a document, I must press CTRL + R to reply to the
message. However, instead of replying, I just read that message normally
with
the arrow keys and all normal navigation commands with JAWS. If I don't want
to
reply, I just press escape and it puts me back on the list of messages. I
have
to press CTRL + R before I can read any message, but that is quick to do.
When

it comes to NVDA, there are even more work arounds that I must figure out to
make sure they are consistent so I can tell you what you must do. So, if you
use
NVDA, hold off a bit unless you can get NVDA to read the opened message.
That is

what I am having a lot of trouble with is reading the opened message. I am
having to use object navigation and other weird stuff, but I must see if
these

work arounds are consistent. Well, Enjoy the information.

Hi Guys,
I’m using the latest Window-Eyes and brand new Windows 10 laptop. I’ve been
able to set up a few email accounts in the Mail ap, but I am unable to get to
the options, as it is just a picture or something, of something that looks like
a cog. Without being able to get to the options, I cannot turn the preview
pane off, or adjust any other settings. Has anyone found a way round this? I
was informed that Window-Eyes did not fully work with the ap by a Microsoft
tech, so I would have had to agree to let him take control of my machine, and
he would do all the adjustments I wanted, not happening, or I could purchase a
copy of Outlook. I’ve also tried finding this options cog with Jaws, NVDA and
Narrator, all without any luck, what email software are folks using on their
machines? I have installed WLM, but the tech guy from Microsoft was not happy,
and made a point of telling me that it was not supported!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.
Jim.

Hi, Larry. I tried the extended dictionary app in its early version and
didn't like it so I uninstalled it. I am not trying to discourage you from
trying it out. No, there is no license fee. I can't see what sense it
would make for an app creator to allow users of Window-eyes to be able to
download free apps and then to charge a license fee. I understand that you
wish to be careful. I will download free apps when available, but I
wouldn't want to download a free app and have to pay a license fee .

Another program you might look into is one called Anyburn. I don't
immediately have the URL to locate the program, but a simple Google
search for "anyburn should quickly find it.

I used Nero for years, and though it was simple enough for burning audio
files to cds, this program is at least as simple to use, and much
smaller. Just a basic utility with a few little extras thrown in, like
being able to rip from cds, but I really haven't put that one to the
test. Written with screen reader users in mind, and it is free.

Subject: Nero?

In the old days, that is like 10 years ago, I used to have a version of
Nero installed. Think it was version 5 or 6. It was a quite nice tool
for ripping and burning CDs, but it also included a tiny recording
software, with some really good noise handling features. I do not know
where my disk with that version of Nero ever ended up in the archives
here, and my guess is that it would maybe not work under modern versions
of Windows either. Used to run it under 98SE, and later on under XP.

For some reasons, I signed up for the newsletter from Nero sometime
through those years. And I now keep receiving their offerings on new
versions of Nero. Seems they do like any other software developer these
days, reasoning that their particular software is going to be the one
and only the globe ever will need, speckling it with more or less needed
and wanted new features. I have been reluctant in taking any chance on
the software updates offered, and for many years now been using other
third-party software for my tasks.

Yet, I was wondering if any of you out there, would happen to be using
newer versions of the NERO suite. If so, which version are you using,
what are you using it for, and how accessible is it now aday? Any
feedback the list members could offer me, would be appreciated, as it
might help me to make an informed decision what to do about any of the
Nero products.

Re: strange speaking of character

2016-07-25 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk

David,

Could you please remind some of us as to where we can go to look into
this product? Or is it a WE app? I've been wondering if the things you
say are possible with this app were doable at all under any
circumstances. For me, its like the sending a man to the moon thing, "if
we can send a man to the moon, surely we aught to be able to include
spaces in WE pronunciation dictionary entries."

On 7/23/2016 3:18 AM, David via Talk wrote:

Glad you got it figured out.

My guess is, even though wild, that you will experience similar issues,
should you change the I with a V or X in your sample line. V is the
Roman Number 5, and X is 10 - so your synth may read those numbers to
you. Could be interesting to know if this is the case. I did use to have
Paul and Kate installed, but currently don't, so cannot do the testing
of my idea right off-hand.

To handle the issue, my suggestion would be to install the Extended
Dictionary, since you then could make an entry that took care of a
comma, space and capitalized I sequence, and forced the voice to
recognize that as a legal English word. The basic exception dictionary
of Window-Eyes won't let you do this kind of tweaking, due to it not
honoring non-textual characters.

Thanks to the Window-Eyes staff and David, my problem has been solved.
First, I am using Neospeech Paul or Voiceware Paul, whichever you
choose to call the voice. It appears the problem here is the comma
after the word "hi" and before the letter "I." If I break the line, it
says "i" and if I choose another voice, it says "i" meaning that the
VWPaul voice must have a feature which allows for Roman Numerals. I
will also check my WE settings to see if there is another option.
After playing with my settings, I have determined that the issue is
with the voice, not Window-Eyes. Thank you for the assistance, I am
sure. OK, now that I have that figured out, the I after the comma
next to the word assistance, does say I, not one as I might expect,
grin. Anyway, it is no big deal, I just couldn't figure out why it was
saying one. And, it has not done it anywhere else except in the
example I referred to earlier. Everyone have a nice weekend.

OK, I am using Eloquence, and Thunderbird. Reading to the end, or
arrowing line by line, it doesn't matter - I do not see the behavior you
are experiencing, sorry. Yet, I do appreciate that you may have another
synthesizer, and you may have settings or even apps that could cause
this kind of behavior, so the following will be of general interest,
annd hence you will have to do a bit of playing to see what would help
you out.

Looking through the line in question, the main differences between the
two I's, that I noticed, is that there is a comma at the end of the
preceeding word of the first I. Now, if some ap you have installed, or
even your synthesizer's firmware interprets a capitalized I in the
beginning of a clause, should be pronounced as the Roman number 1, you
are right at the core of the issue.

Solutions?
My first go, would have been to copy the line in question to a blank
document in something like Notepad. This so as to let you play around
with it, without disturbing anything. try to edit the line, removing the
comma, and then let the synthesizer read it out to you. Does the same
behavior display? Try leaving the comma in place, but break the phrase
into two different lines, that the first line will hold the text up to
the comma, and the second line will start out with the first I. Arrow up
and down, realizing how your synth will do the job.

If any of the above would improve the speech, chances are that my guess
had something to it - your screen reader interprets the first I as Roman
number 1. Numerous reasons could play their role, the two main ones
would be the synth used may have this kind of built-in interpretation,
and the second one would be any apps you have installed. So try turning
off any apps that may have an impact on your textual interpretation. I
do know, there used to exist an app on App Central for making the speech
read out Roman numbers correctly, so if you happen to be a user of that
one, it might be one to turn off for the testing. And again, changing
the synth may be the whole solution worth.

Hope any of this would prove helpful in your tracing the reason for this
behavior. Like I said, I did not hear the pronunciation you described.
To me, both the I's were spoken properly as what they inreality are,
