RE: Windows 10 upgrade for assistive technology users

2016-08-06 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Rick,

In my Windows 10 Home edition, I used Windows Update, and, in that dialog,
the Check for updates button, and, once the Install updates button appeared,
that is, after the update downloaded, the new version was installed.
Now, on another version of Windows 10, this time Ultimate within a virtual
machine, I noticed that I am still running Windows 10 1511 and it is
reported that I am up to date.
I'll have to check on that over the next while and see if thre is another
update available for Ultimate.

Hth,

Rod

Hi Rod et All:
I run windows 10 v 1511 I think with WE 9.5 I think.
As mentioned we need to get the W10 anniversery edition for screen readers.
Did you download the Media Creation tool you posted the url to and how does
that work to download the free upgrade or does it?
Does the Media Creation tool have you enter the url of the free version for
screen reader users or what does the process look or sound like as you
download and install?
I am running W 8.1 currently and sure would like to avoid all the problems
if I can.

Hi: I use Netflix but I don't think it is very accessible.
I can pick a show to watch from those listed on the opening web page or type
something into the search box and often get some listings.
I have to turn browse mode off to tab through the shows to watch and
sometimes they start and other times I have to tab around the page that
comes up and either click play with browse mode on or off, just have to
fiddle around a little sometimes.
I think there are allot more shows to watch than I get in a single web page
listing but I have not found how to get them but there are allot to choose
through anyway.
I also can turn on browse mode to read around the pages and sometimes can
click something, sometimes I can click a heading and get more listings for a
category or click the more button to get more choices.
The trick is to scout around with browse mode on and then with it off for
each page you are on and that is about the best I have been able to do so
far.
I have watched many tv shows, hundreds and hundreds of episodes so it can be
done but it sucks and Netflix nor WindowEyes has come up with a decent
solution in the past few years as accessibility gets worse and worse.
As for pausing and ReStarting there is a button to Play/Pause on the page
that is displayed when a show is playing but it takes a few minutes after
the show starts to appear on the page.
That's all I have for now. What has your experience been trying to use
Netflix lately?

it appears that microsoft does not check your computer for a screen reader. you
have to find this hidden web site and download a file that will allow you to
get the free windows 10 upgrade after july 29

copy and paste the link into your browser if it will not activate because it is

Hi.

Are you still having the problem with the WE general setting?
If so, has AI Squared had any response/fix?

I have not yet done the Windows 10 Anniversary update.

Thanks.

I did not have to uninstall WE when I went from Windows 7 to 10, I just

2016-08-06 Thread net bat via Talk
if it is an upgrade version of w e 9.2 or higher it will only run as a demo if
it installs at all.
i would uninstall it before upgradeing from win7 anyway because win10 uses
different sound and video drivers then windows 7. they are not the same.
you would not have the problems of haveing to install w e twice and haveing to
run the w e diagnostic test to do the repairs it would have to do to get it
working.

upgrade disks will not work. they would run as a demo if they install at all.
make sure you have a internet connection. sometimes it will not find a

it should go to the desktop in about 1 hour after you start the installation.

Hello Chris,

In addition to reporting the success, or not, of this method, could you also
let us know if the entire process of upgrade in a Windows 7 Pro environment
to the Anniversary Edition of Windows 10 Pro can be done with Window-Eyes
alone? That is, there is no need to run any other screen reader in order to
complete the process.

I note also on this list that others seem to have used this process with
success; maybe they may be able to answer my question.

Using this link, my tablet is in the first reboot. I didn't have any
display error issues.
I downloaded the media creation utility that is 17mb.

I won't be truly happy until it is complete but didn't have any issues up
until the first reboot.

The media creation tool worked. As I'm writing this, windows 10
anniversary addition is being installed. Thanks for the tip!

I used the media creation tool when I first installed windows 10, but I
didn't scroll down far enough on the Microsoft page to see this tool
when I tried this upgrade.

You may be correct, I didn't remember whether it was 9.4 or 9.5.1, but
they fixed quite a bit for 9.5.1, so people should get that anyway.

Actually, prior to the anniversary version WE 9.2 would have sufficed, but,
with the anniversary, it would have to be 9.5.1.
This is my understanding, anyway. smile

RE: netflix accessibility

2016-08-06 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Some time back, they used Microsoft Silverlight which opened within the
browser, and, at that time, I got it to work quite well.
I don't have a subscription right now, and so I am just wondering, does it
still use Silverlight?

Thanks,

Rod

Re: installing win 10 anaversory.

2016-08-06 Thread via Talk
If you have a recent version of window-eyes, you can go from windows 7
to 10, but after you do, you have to install the upgrade file over
itself and it does have to be later or equal 9.4, if I remember
correctly.

Re: Windows 10 Anniversary Update Has Shorter Rollback Period -- Redmond Channel Partner

2016-08-06 Thread net bat via Talk
if you don't like the windows 10 anaversory you only have 10 days from the
installation date to roll back this time. instead of the 30 days you had with
the last upgrade.
also check your privicy settings. some people reported they were changed back
to the factory defaults.

installing win 10 anaversory.

2016-08-06 Thread net bat via Talk
first thing. make a complete windows 7 system backup. incase the upgrade
fails.
when you go from win 7 to win 10 anaversory i think you will still have to
uninstall window eyes because win 10 uses different display technology
you would need a full version of window eyes 9.2 or higher before you start.
older versions will not work.

upgrade disks will not work. they would run as a demo if they install at all.
make sure you have a internet connection. sometimes it will not find a sound
card driver. but if you have some u s b speakers or a u s b head set it should
work.

it should go to the desktop in about 1 hour after you start the installation.
when it does press windows and enter to turn narrator on or off . then you will
have some speech to start the window eyes installation.

I note also on this list that others seem to have used this process with

FW: maybe you will believe me now. Re: the upgrade assistant says the display driver is blocking installation

2016-08-06 Thread John Farley via Talk
Hello Chris,

In addition to reporting the success, or not, of this method, could you also
let us know if the entire process of upgrade in a Windows 7 Pro environment
to the Anniversary Edition of Windows 10 Pro can be done with Window-Eyes
alone? That is, there is no need to run any other screen reader in order to
complete the process.

I note also on this list that others seem to have used this process with
success; maybe they may be able to answer my question.

?

Regards, John

Using this link, my tablet is in the first reboot. I didn't have any
display error issues.
I downloaded the media creation utility that is 17mb.

I won't be truly happy until it is complete but didn't have any issues up
until the first reboot.
To Be Continued...

I used the media creation tool when I first installed windows 10, but I
