To be fair the first amendment only applies to any infringement by the

Mr. Riehl, you probably already know that Window-Eyes is dead although you
can keep using it until it is finally buried following a funeral service
when all friends, family, and well-wishers of the screen reader gather
together. Jaws is its replacement and, since V F O is SLOWLY MOVING folks
over to Jaws, this list might as well discuss both screen readers so as to
make the transition easier for all!

Hello Mr. Farley:

Freedom of Expression, Speech, Assembly, Religion and a trillion other
freedoms exist. That's the case at least in a Western plural democracy to
which many of us subscribe either by doctrine, or through whatever informed
decisions we elect to make.

The only freedom humans do not have is FREEDOM FROM DEATH! If they do, the
most powerful and well-situated ones amongst us would have purchased it all
for themselves and their heirs alive and yet unborn! So, sire, let whatever
FREEDOM there is ring from the hilltops, through the prairies, mountains,
cliffs, lakes, rivers, oceans near and far, below and above the sky, and
everywhere humans dare to set their feet.

It is true that my freedom begins where the first person's stops; however,
NOT very many humans recognise this for a fact and the cacophonous rumblings
continue. Let FREEDOM ring; let each person elect to hear the pealing
sounds of its bell, or else ignore.

Sometimes I make a desktop shortcut unique by prefixing it with a
punctuation mark, such as an exclamation. If you're talking about the order
of things on the taskbar, I think that's more difficult, requiring that
everything be removed, then put in place in the order in which you want to
see them.

Hi Jeff,

If you find your Windows user profile folder, you can simply highlight each
of the folders you want desktop shortcuts for, press the Applcations key,
press N for Send to, and then press D for desktop and then press Enter
(since there's probably more than one item starting with D on the Send to
menu).

Now, for some reason, on both the new and original profile, the start menu
does not work as before.
I am unable to arrow up and down through the start menu items—they are there
as links that I have to click on with the mouse.

Also, on the new profile, how do I make the profile folder with downloads,
music, etc. appear on the desktop? I don’t want a short-cut, but I want the
first thing on the desktop to be my profile name where I can press enter and
find all those folders like it is on the original profile.
Any help appreciated.

I called the jaws help line and told them that the message came up that the
freedom scientific mirror drivers did not install properly, and the jaws
help line referred me to the Microsoft disability desk.
The disability desk said that installing a new profile would have fresh
components installed which should allow the mirror drivers to install
correctly. We did this and it worked. I can use either profile with jaws,
but it took using the new profile to get the mirror drivers to install
correctly.

I admit that I was skeptical too, but it worked!

Hello list,

While I, as a UK resident, realise that there are a great many members of
this list that are patriotic citizens of the USA is the following sign-off
really a suitable statement for what is, after all, a global list for
visually impaired people all trying to help each other.
I certainly do not think so and would rather not see other list members
political opinions on this list. There are other lists for such statements.

Now follows the sign-off:

RE: windows 7 help needed

2017-06-04 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Jeff,

If you find your Windows user profile folder, you can simply highlight each of
the folders you want desktop shortcuts for, press the Applcations key, press N
for Send to, and then press D for desktop and then press Enter (since there's
probably more than one item starting with D on the Send to menu).

In order to install jaws 18, I have had to create a new profile.
Now, for some reason, on both the new and original profile, the start menu does
not work as before.
I am unable to arrow up and down through the start menu items—they are there as
links that I have to click on with the mouse.

Also, on the new profile, how do I make the profile folder with downloads,
music, etc. appear on the desktop? I don’t want a short-cut, but I want the
first thing on the desktop to be my profile name where I can press enter and
find all those folders like it is on the original profile.
Any help appreciated.

RE: outlook with office 2016. what is going on here?

2017-06-04 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Ted,

Some emails just don't load properly in Outlook, and so must be opened again.
I have found that some newsletter emails really only read well enough to keep
me from needing medication (grin) by replying to them, and then I simply read
my reply in the editor, but, of course, I don't send them.

Dear List:

I am using window-eyes. When reading emails, something has changed. When I
open a message it says: message html. Column 1 of 1 web layout. Click here
to download pictures. To help protect your privacy, outlook prevented
automatic download of some pictures in this message. I discovered it also
removes the body of the message as well. When I copy the message to the
clipboard and then read the clipboard, the message is there. Otherwise, all
the email contains is hyperlink entering and leaving table stuff. Thanks for
any ideas. Regards: Ted Larson

RE: problem with Outlook 2010

2017-06-04 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi John,

I think this has to do with how you're used to navigating.
You must use F6 or Control-Tab to move between the tree and list views in
Outlook 2016, rather than Tab, and add the Shift key to go backwards.
If you are in the ribbon, press Escape to get out.
Press Control-Shift- I to focus your Inbox, and this should allow you to get
back to normalcy.

Somenow my "navigation pane" got minimized. Now, instead of seeing all of my

"navigation pane minimized" they open very briefly then close again. How do I
fix this?

Thanks.

Subject: JAWS, Window-Eyes, Copying In Google Chrome, Problem Resolved

I posted the below problem several days ago. I post the solution now in
case it proves helpful to someone else. There's so much to learn when
switching to a new screen reader that it will take a while to sort out all
the settings.

Using the insert v quick settings menu when in Chrome, I changed the "select
and copy full content using on-screen highlight"

to

"from virtual cursor."

All the article now appears in my Word document when I paste it in.

It was not necessary to change the setting in Internet Explorer. Who knows
about Edge, when we get there. Smile.

Also, yesterday, in trying to gain access to a "Play" graphic in JAWS, I
resolved the same issue in Window-Eyes, where I'd previously had access and
then lost it. I'd had to switch to Chrome, but then it disappeared there
too. Web pages are updated (redesigned) as are browsers, and accessibility
is not always guaranteed with the "improved" versions.

The learning never ends. Smile.

Subject: JAWS, Window-Eyes, Copying In Google Chrome

I've tried repeatedly to copy several articles on different web sites using
JAWS and Google Chrome. I tried selecting text with the shift down-arrow,
copying and pasting, an, when that did not work, setting a temporary place
marker, using JAWS find to locate the last word in the article, and placing
a marker through the layered keystroke menu and copying and pasting. I get
a copy confirmation but when I paste the article into Word 2010 or NotePad,
I get a few lines but nothing more.

When I switch to Window-Eyes and use the F8 method to copy plain text, the
article is all there.

If I then bring up the article in Internet Explorer, the copy function works
as it should in JAWS. Has anyone else experienced this. I realize JAWS is
probably putting all its efforts into making Edge accessible, but I would
hope that Chrome too could be made fully functional.

There are some things that JAWS does better than Window-Eyes. I wish the
best of both programs could be combined into one. Smile.

RE: JFW Home vs Professional

2017-06-04 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Olusegun,

There is misinformation at work here.
Someone on the list a while back said that, as home users, we can install Jaws
as many times as necessary on our home networks.
It is simply a matter of resetting the number of installs via a web interface.
As long as we're reasonable, VFO now is as well.

Best,

Rod

This is where and why I will miss Window-Eyes miserably! You purchase the
software, and you pay NOTHING EXTRA to get a Pro license. What's more, you
have a serial number, and, voila, install on as many computers as you care
to shake a stick at. Obviously, V F O detests and hates Window-Eyes because
it DOES NOT ENGAGE IN PRICE GOUGING, hence the reason in my view it had to
be KILLED in favour of the Big Shark! Oh well, stupid me, this Big Shark
won't ever get a chance to BITE OFF my ears!
