WE Evaluation copy problem

2023-03-22 Thread David Hoff Jr via Talk
Thanks for all your help.

I saved the fix to a text file and then accidentally deleted all the
emails so I cannot reply to the emails directly.

Re: Possible fix, was Re: WE suddenly notifying me I have an evaluation copy

2023-03-22 Thread David Pedersen via Talk
By earlier experience: When this kind of behavior has shown up in
the past - this it seems to do every now and then - all I have had to do is to
hard-boot my computer. That is shut it all down, and start it up again. Seems
waking it up from sleep mode does not work, as it will only reload memory. Even
restarting it, warm-booting, seems not to do the trick. Have no clue why it
pops up once in a while. Get a feeling it happens upon some update
installations of Windows itself.

Hello

I have tried the suggestion for a fix and it seems to have worked.
Instead of adding a line under misc, I simply edited the existing line
and changed it from a 1 to a 0.

Greetings,

To work around the evaluation copy error message when WE starts up, do the
following:

1. From the Window-Eyes control panel, go to File -> Explore Profile Folder.
2. Open the wineyes.ini file.
3. Add the following line to the [misc] section:
AllowUpgradeCheckOnStartup=0
4. Save the file.
5. Back in Window-Eyes, go through each running app under the Apps menu, and
set them all to no longer check for updates at startup.
6. Restart the program.

Once done, you should, in theory, be all set. This tip was passed along to me
from a reliable source who would prefer to remain anonymous. I hope it helps
someone.

Best,
Steve

Hi all,

It appears that Vispero have completely taken down all GW Micro-related
pages and services without any warning. This is likely the reason for the
errant message on startup. I expect checking for updates, downloading apps,
and the like are completely busted now.

So far this is just an irritant, but I am concerned it may stop
working in the near future. Has anyone else had a similar problem and
if so what is the sollution? Is it possibly a Microsoft Windows 7
update that is causing the problem and if so which update?

Thanks for any suggestions.
