Hi all,

On Tuesday, it will be 2 weeks since I signed up for Jaws over the phone. I
called about when I could expect to receive it on Friday and was told that I
was in process to get it. Is there another number I can call to speak with
someone who can help me get it soon? It seems to me that 2 weeks is plenty

RE: Getting Speech back

2017-01-03 Thread Bill Tillery via Talk
Hi Dave,

I am experiencing the same problem on a Win-7 machine, ultimate version and
it began this way. Speech would fail after a short time and I would have to
reboot the machine to bring it back. I wam using WE 9.5.3 and NVDA latest.
Eventually speech failed completely but sound continues. I think it is a
problem between mirror drivers and the graphics card drivers but cannot be
certain. Maybe attempt to reinstall WE after you have setup your Creative
product, making sure that no atni-virus programs are running.

Thank you to all who had suggestions as how to get my system talking.

So far, it is still resisting all of my attempts. I'll need to ask my
poor wife, who knows little about computers to read some screens for me
this evening after work.

I keep thinking there has to be a simple switch I've turned off, but
where it is, guess that will be the Hunt that will take place later.

It plays sounds, but won't talk. When NVDA would not talk, that is when
I thought I might have something serious going on.NVDA works when
all others fail. But, let's hope it is just a switch flipped the wrong
way.

I do rather think that JAWS will still be developed, as will Window-eyes.
But things with JAWS haven't exactly been revolutionary of late. Most of the
updates and improovements involve toys. Window-eyes may lack some of the
features, but it's more stable.

RE: VFO acquisition of Ai Squared

Thank you Doug,

As always you bring a commen sense and calming approach to inevitable

Subject: VFO acquisition of Ai Squared

Hello everyone,

I wanted to chime in here and give my personal thoughts to the bombshell
released today regarding VFO (the parent company of Freedom Scientific
and Optelec) acquiring Ai Squared. And by bombshell, I don't mean a bad
thing, I just mean it is shocking and unexpected news.

I know this may seem scary to many people. I know that we have a great
number of extremely loyal customers who may be feeling betrayed. There
are lots of legit concerns and questions that I'm sure come to
everyone's minds. But honestly, nobody knows the answers at this
point. We are just starting the discussions internally of how best to
take all our new resources, talent, products, etc. and meld them
together to give the best customer experience. For the next 6 months or
so, it will be business as usual. After the 6 months, who knows at this
point but I can guarantee the customers will benefit from the results.
Nobody will be abandoned or taken advantage of, etc. I'm very impressed
with John Blake (CEO of VFO). I truly believe John is in this for the
customer.

Personally, I'm extremely excited with the possibilities. Think about
it, we now have all the best minds in this industry under one roof.
Instead of us duplicating resources, we can combine them and inovate.
Although Freedom has been our number one competitor since Dan and I
started GW Micro in 1990, I've always had great respect for their
engineers. Okay, I've had questions about their corporate leadership, a
certain lawsuit comes to mind (smile), but that was a completely
different leadership team. That was a different owner and a different
CEO. Vector has an outstanding reputation. John Blake has shown great
leadership and concern for the customer. Under this new leadership and
available resources, I'm ready to take that and do whatever it takes to
have the best possible solutions for our customers, for every low vision
and blind person out there.

People may be concerned about lack of competition causing innovation and
quality to suffer. Nothing can be further from the truth. There is
still plenty of competition out there, including free options but we
have the determination and drive, starting at the corporate level all
they way down to provide the best quality products, hands down. Yes,
this will take some time to prove but I'm hoping that everyone out there
will give us that opportunity. Again, I'm putting everything I have into
this venture and I wouldn't do that if I didn't believe in it.

Regards,
Doug

It's interesting that iCloud may be a culprit. However, if you do that, how

RE: Is WindowEyes Causing All Internet And Other Crashes?

2016-02-17 Thread Bill Tillery via Talk
I have removed iCloud as well, within the past twenty (20) minutes. When I
rebooted my system it was faster and with much less hard drive action just
after boot. I am using Outlook 2013 and it responds better at this time. I
was having multiple problems with email and IE prior to this change. I am
running a Dell XPS-9100 with 6-mg ram, 1-tb hd and WE 9.3.

Hello Rick,

No, you are not imagining problems in WE 9.X.

A I Squared seems to be annoyingly silent about solutions or even
recognizing there are those, for what ever reasons, WE 9.X just does not
work reliably.

By now, I would think Tech Support would have loads of notes about the
configuration of systems that are having problems. I would think they
could start noticing patterns and recognize equipment that either needs
to be updated, or switched out for something else.

I believe WE 9 has issues with memory. On my system, if I left the
system stay idle for two three hours, and then start using it, it is a
matter of minutes before I get a lock up, Speech goes quiet, or an
outright Freeze of the system. All requiring a total shut down and
re-start. Rarely does using the short cut key to re-start WE 9, work.

I do not wish to buy JAWS, or even entertain going over to JAWS. I like
WE and have used it for years. I wish A I Squared was a bit more up
front with their customers, but remaining quiet, which gives the
impression they are ignoring problems, seems to be their way of
communicating
with customers.Ignoring problems is not a smart way to run a
business, and if done long enough, the problems do not go away, but the
customers do.

Even if A I Squared would say, Yes, we have a problem on some systems.
We are not sure just why some have issues and others do not, but we are
working on finding a solution.even something like this would at
least keep me from pulling my hair out, thinking that the problem could
be my system, or something in it that is causing issues.

Honesty goes a long way in keeping my loyalty. Silence on the other
hand makes me feel as if I am ignored.

I keep thinking if I had more memeory, that just maybe WE 9 would work a
bit better. Any here with 16 GB of RAM having problems with WE locking
up, or Speech going away?

Grumpy Dave

In WLM, if you open an email, you can copy and paste using the F8 procedure.

However, If you use the Reply command, then F8 does not work. You have to do
it the old way by holding down shift and arrowing down to where you want to
stop compying and then use ctrl V to put the text where you want it.

Hi Dennis:
The only way I know right now is to sign out when you leave Gmail.
Then the next time that you sign in you will not be taken right into your
account.
I don't know of a way to change this behaviour.

heard of? I was unable to find the spot where I could select a printer.
Can someone remind me of where to look? I am running Windows 7 at the

Any suggestions on where I can look? Hopefully I have given enough info..?

Jo, we need some more details to know exactly what reminder chime in Outlook
you are referring to. Here are a few that come to mind.
1. If you have created appointments in your Outlook calendar with reminders,
Outlook will emit a chime and display the Reminder dialog with a list of all
reminders each time you open Outlook until you dismiss them.
2. Outlook plays a chime when new emails are received and displayed in your
Inbox
3. The Window-Eyes Outlook Enhance app is designed to play certain tones
when an email is opened that has text presented in the message's information
bar.
If you can let us know which of these chimes you are referring to, we will
be in a better position to assist you.

Marc
