I confess that I am mostly using NVDA now.
Does anyone else on the list have any thoughts on FF?

As far back as 2017, there was a problem with a FF release for screen
reader users. As I recall, it was recommended that screen reader users
rollback to an ESR version and disallow auto updates.
Fast forward to March 2020. I am now running a Windows 10, 64-bit, OS,
 version 1909.
The version of Firefox is 68.5.0 ESR, 64-bit.

A sighted friend was going to update FF for me, but, he was thrown off
by the ESR version. He was also concerned that more current versions of
 FF were not 64-bit.

Anybody got any advice on what version of FF I should be running?

 Thanks.

Re: Internet Browsers

Hi Curtis.

Embarrassed to admit that the piece that I was missing was using the
context key to open the html version.
When I had a plain text message, I would tab to the next pane, and hear
"text/html" and arrow down, thinking that the html had automagically
opened up. Geesh. I've got it now, though. Thanks!

I just had wonderful help from Microsoft Disability support to update my
Windows 10 OS to build 1909. The support person, Grace, also installed
the latest release of Edge which she referred to as "Edge Cromium". I
haven't played with it yet.

Here is my dilemma. I use BECKY! as my email client. According to the
Help info, BECKY! 2.74.x needs an IE5 or better component to handle
HTML.

A private tech support person said that the IE5 was different from
Internet Explorer, but, I'm not confident that this is true. While I
have the IE5 box checked, I still get "If your browser isn't displaying
this HTML message, you need to upgrade...".

Any other BECKY! users out there with any info to share?

I've been reluctant to use MS Office because I find the ribbons just too
confusing. Maybe things have gotten better from a useability standpoint
since the last time I checked???

 Hi,

It seems in my latest Windows update that Internet Explorer no longer works.
I prefer the duckduckgo.com as my browser but it tells me I will need an app
from the app store. My Window Eyes or either the browser does not have
header but I can only tab from link to link. When I had tried to use the
Google Chrome is was a similar situation and difficult to maneuver around.

I have Windows 10 and Window Eyes 9.54. Can any other browser be used so I
can search on the internet? Is Narrator a better option?

Thanks for any help and advice as to what may be done. Sorry if this is a
repeat of earlier questions but this is just now occurring with me.

 Have a blessed day!

Re: email

2019-11-07 Thread Martha via Talk
Hi -

I am a bit phobic about ribbons and wanted an email client with a simple
drop-down menu.
I've been using BECKY! as my email client for several years. It works
well, except for some problems displaying some html items.
I've tried different settings, but, some emails just don't give me the
info I need after downloading them from XFINITY. I'm actually getting
ready to try Outlook or some other email client.
I'm using a Windows 10 PC.
Here is the link to RimArts, the developer of BECKY!. And, yes, the ".jp"
extension in the url stands for Japan.

BECKY!: forwarding emails

2018-01-17 Thread Martha via Talk
Hi.

I am using BECKY! version 2.0 on a Windows PC.

I have been forwarding emails and most of the time the text in the body
is forwarded successfully.
Some of the emails that I am forwarding are contain a string of emails.
These emails show only the headers and signatures of the emails in the
string or thread. The body of the emails is blank.

Is there a setting that I need to change? I'm wondering if this is due
to the size of the email.

thanks.

Martha

Hi.

1. Has anyone tried using BECKY! with JFW yet? If so, how did it go?

2. Besides using nicknames in BECKY!, what are the steps and keystrokes
to select multiple recipients of a new composed message? I'm used to
Outlook Express where I could be in the address book, arrow to a name
and press alt and "the letter t" to add a name to the "To" line, alt and
"the letter c" to
add the selected name to the "CC:" line, or alt and the letter "b" to
add the selected name to the "BCC" line. Is there a BECKY! way to do
this?

Since this is not specific to Window-Eyes, please respond to me off-list
at
mrea...@comcast.net

Thanks.

Martha

Also, under the View menu, there is a "Change Layout" option.
I had to change to option 3 wide list view to get all components to show
when arrowing through the list boxes. It has been a long time, but, I think
that the sender was not showing prior to making this BECKY! setting
change.

Becky works very well but you need to change two settings. In the Tools,
General setup dialog on the Message View tab, uncheck the "Control four-way
button with arrow keys" check box and the cursor will work when you are reading
messages. In the Editor tab in the same dialog, uncheck the Display line
pointer option which, if checked, can cover up the first character.

 Good luck.

the option of making it the default program for opening PDFs, but even if

There are number of configurations you could make in order to make reading

Windows 10; printing a document

2016-09-08 Thread Martha via Talk
Okay, I have made the leap from XP to 10. I get lost in the ribbon.
I have opened up File Explorer, have found a *.doc in Documents, and
want to print it.
With the item selected, I've tried using the context/applications key
and did not find a print option. The Send to pulldown did not include a
printer.

I tried using control + P key combination, but, did not get the print
dialogue box.

I tried to find the print option in the ribbon without success.

Would one of you kind souls send step by step instructions. I'm stuck.

Using WE 9.5.1.

Re: about becky!

2016-08-28 Thread Martha via Talk
Hi.

To sort the address book, use your mouse key to place the pointer on the
column header. Click on the column header to sort. Clicking a second
time on the desired column header will reverse the sort order.

To include the original email as part of your reply, from the "Tools"
menu, open the General Setup" option.
Within that option are 12 tabs. Use your arrow keys to get to the tab
called "Citation". Then use your tab key to get to the checkbox for
"use edit template when replying" and use the spacebar to check it.

I may not have the wording of the labels exactly right, but, should be
close enough for you to recognize what I am trying to communicate. If
not, write to me off-list and I'll give it another try.

Hi.

I called WE Support about this same problem earlier today.
I am using a new Windows10 (not an upgrade from Windows7), WE 9.4, and I
bypass the logon screen when I start up the machine.

Check to see if video support for WE has been lost. Do this by opening
WE control panel, going to the Help menue, and pressing enter on "About...".
If you hear that the video driver is missing, close WE completely and
then launch WE. Then try tabbing to the message window in BECKY! If
you still don't hear the message, close BECKY! and launch it again.
