RE: switching to JAWS

2017-06-06 Thread JOHN RIEHL via Talk
I believe the read-to-end command is the Insert key (the one in the sixpack
to the right of the keyboard) and down-arrow. I don't remember the
passthrough key; I'm still learning myself. One thing to know is that you
don't need to press the passthrough key when doing a reply-all in an e-mail.

I am in the process of switching from WE 9 to JAWS and would like to know
what is the "READ-TO-END" command in JAWS, also, what is the JAWS
"Pass-through" command?

long-time JAWS users on it, a list like this list that I can subscribe to.

Hello Olusegun,

At no point in my statement did I attack freedom of expression, only if the
signature was appropriate for this list. I, too, fully believe that freedom
of expression is a human right which should not be denied to anyone.

In the UK it is apparent from our own news channels, the various US news
media that we have access to and Americans I know very well that there is
still a level of controversy about the current US head of state.

In light of that the signature I have questioned is an overtly political
statement which not all US citizens would agree with.
That was my sole reason for questioning the validity of the signature.

I suggest that the subject should be dropped from this list.

can keep using it until it is finally buried following a funeral service

RE: Eset 10

Subject: Eset 10

Eset popped up while I was on the internet, using Chrome rather than IE,
which may have been a good thing. It asked me if I wanted to allow
something or block it. Since I was unsure what it was talking about, I
chose block. Better safe than sorry. Smile. But I decided to run a scan,
just in case. I clicked scan from the main Eset screen, and saw from the
system tray that a scan was in progress. When I checked later, the scan in
progress message was gone. I alt-tabbed to the Eset screen where I read
that no threats had been found. I used alt-f4 to close the program.

I know some have stated that Eset 10 is not accessible with Window-Eyes.
For my needs, it's perfectly accessible. When it comes to antivirus
protection, I've never had a problem using Eset right out of the box, so to
speak, and leaving the program to get on with what I've paid it to do.

For the advanced computer people on the list, this may not be what you want.
But I think it's fine for the average user, and certainly for those with
limited computer skills and no interest in going beyond basic tasks. An
advantage for these last, and the rest of us too, regardless of skill level,
Eset tech support is available free with a quick phone call.

Again, JMO, in case the information proves useful to someone.

outlook enhance keeps getting messed up

2017-04-22 Thread JOHN RIEHL via Talk
HI, indoweyes listers and staff.
I've been a WE user for years and years and am reaching the end of my rope.
Over the past year or so Outlook Enhance (the app that makes Outlook usable)
keeps turning off, forcing me to re-enable it manually. This has happened at
least a half-a-dozen times; it just happened tonight. I opened Windoweyes,
went to Outlook and my e-mail messages aren't reading properly. Links aren'
working and reading strangelyh; I can't see names or addresses when I type
in the "
to" box, etc. I'm fed up. If I didn't have JAWS as a backup, I'd be in deep
doo-doo. Are others having this problem?
Thanks.
PWhen I pressed altF, T A A to get into add-ons, I can't see Outlook
enhanced as an add-on to re-activate.
As I said, I'm fed up.

I think part of the question -- and I have the same question -- is not only

Hi,

I know Malware Bytes has been discussed numerous times on this listbut
never followed it up. However, I am beginning to think it would be
worth installing the program to add extra security to what is already
being used.

I think there was some discussion about some version and some parts
which were not accessible with speech. Can someone please inform me
which version is useable with the latest WE?

Also, as Bullguard is currently used for antivirus, is it possible to
turn off Malwarebytes so the two programmes don't clash? i.e. Just turn
off Bullguard and Malware Bytes on when a scan is to be done.

Thanks
Neville.

Yep same issue here. Disabling the plugin doesn't let you run flash content
obviously. This is an issue that Firefox has had in various forms for years
now. The ideal solution would be for things to migrate from flash to html 5,
but that'll be awhile. I just have noticed window-eyes being pretty sluggish
in firefox as a result. There is always the option, too, of using an add-on
like noscript or flashgot to disable or enable it at ones choosing.

Major java problem with 9.5.3

2016-09-16 Thread JOHN RIEHL via Talk
I successfully downloaded and installed i.5.3. When I rebooted, my Java
updater installed a new version of Java. Now, whenever I try to do anything
in Firefox or Internet Explorer, I get messages saying that the Java
plug-in has crashed, inviting me to either stop the plug-in or continue. In
IE I get a java error.

Whether I stop the plug-in or continue, WE is unable to read anything in
Firevox or IE and I can't get into Task manager to close it out. I also
can't interact with anywebsite. Although I still get the errors, I can at
least continue working using JAWS.

How do I fix this problem?

Is anyone else having this issue?

difficulty with Windows XP and Internet Explorer, so I decided to finally
get a newer computer which comes with Windows 7. I realize that Windows x

this no longer works with Windows 7. Does anyone have a recommendation for
a good email program that works well with Window-Eyes and also Windows 7?

Thanks to the Window-Eyes staff and David, my problem has been solved.
First, I am using Neospeech Paul or Voiceware Paul, whichever you choose
to call the voice. It appears the problem here is the comma after the
word "hi" and before the letter "I." If I break the line, it says "i"
and if I choose another voice, it says "i" meaning that the VWPaul voice
must have a feature which allows for Roman Numerals. I will also check
my WE settings to see if there is another option. After playing with my
settings, I have determined that the issue is with the voice, not
Window-Eyes. Thank you for the assistance, I am sure. OK, now that I
have that figured out, the I after the comma next to the word
assistance, does say I, not one as I might expect, grin. Anyway, it is
no big deal, I just couldn't figure out why it was saying one. And, it
has not done it anywhere else except in the example I referred to
earlier. Everyone have a nice weekend.

Carol

I have been trying to download and install the new 9.3.1 update. The update
downloads and the update starts to install. The problem is that after I
click no to the braille question, the program says that this version of
window-eyes is not valid for my copy of we. I am running we 9.2.1 on a

Hy. I'm using Windows 9.2.1 on a Windows-7 machine. I went to Help, check

Does anyone else find the extraordinary High Prices of Accessible Software,
something that borders on Insulting, and perhaps Greedy?

When I can purchase a product off the Shelf for around $200, or a bit
more if I need Professional quality, the $900 price for Open Book just
seems a bit much, as in Too MUCH!

There is no way I can afford $900 for a Scanning package.

I even find the prices of Screen Readers to be far too High. When the
software that reads the screen is twice the price of the computer it
will
operate upon, something is wrong there. But given the sales are for a
smallish market, I'll give Screen Reader Companies a reluctant Pass for
their High Pricing.

However, Open Book could be sold as a product for not only the Blind,
but for the Sighted as well.So Open Book is not limited to just the
Blind community, and the State Agencies that might pay such pricing.

The Authors of Open Book would need to make their software easy to use
and understand by all users, Price it for the Mass market and not just
for the Blind depending upon State Agency Money to buy it.

I've been using Omni-Page, and I bought it because I could afford it,
and could not, and would not afford Open Book due to its pricing.

4900 for a Scanning Software package that is probably not all that much
more powerful than the Software that comes with the typical Scanner, for
Free!

enough of the ridiculous High Prices!

RE: Windoweyes babbling, and some succinct advice on security solutions

2015-10-17 Thread john riehl via Talk
I don't have any thoughts about your WE speaking strangely; I'm not having
that problem.

I would love it if AI Squared could help Panda make their product more
accessible.

There are two flaw in your accessibility argument, Brandon. The first is
that accessibility isn't a subjective term. I've tested websites, courses
and various applications for accessibility/usability at work for more than
30 years, and for me there's no subjectivity about it. There are technical
standards app makers need to follow to make their apps "accessible" to the
disabled. There are the technical "accessibility" standards, and then
there's "usability". My bottom line is: if I can, as a user, through using
keyboard shortcuts, navigation, etc, do the same things as a sighted user
can with a program, then it's accessible and usable. If I can't, or if it's
substantially more difficult, then the app isn't accessible. That's the
second flaw in your logic. Panda may be the greatest virus program out
there, but if I, as a blind person, can't use its features, what good is it
to me? Nod-32 may not be the best program, but at least it's relatively
accessible.

Subject: Window-eyes babbling, and some succinct advice on security
solutions

Ok y'all, if this has already been addressed then I apologize, and
you're welcome to just send me the link to where and I'll take it from
there. The thing I'm experiencing for some strange reason is this. I've
just recently (as in two days ago) installed a brand spankin' new copy
of Wineyes 9.2.1 on my Windows 7 64-bit home premium machine. Now,
window-eyes is just speaking in a generally odd and confusing manner.
For instance, I encountered while navigating around the web last night
your standard, average, ordinary, nothing special whatsoever, run of the
mill radio button on a webpage. However, instead of saying radio button
like normal, Window-eyes now announces, retina input button, each time I
encounter a radio button. I notice this specifically when working with
startpage.com's settings page. Thoughts? Window-eyes also strangely
announces, CloudBg at the extreme top of that page, which is also new.
I've never heard it do that before. Thoughts? Oh one last thing, you
know the like, button on facebook? That has started speaking really
strangely these days too. Thoughts?
Now to my online security blurb. In short, accessibility of an app has
absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with how well an app will or won't
protect/defend your data. Accessibility is just a subjective designation
commonly used when describing whether a disabled person can, or cannot,
generally speaking, navigate with and use something as originally
intended. If a disabled person is able to do those things independently,
then the app generally ends up getting called accessible. If on the
other hand a disabled person is unable to do those things, then the app
generally ends up getting called inaccessible, no matter how well it may
yet perform in actuality. Case and point, I just emailed Panda Security
yesterday to see if they'd get in touch with Ai Squared to get some
guidance from Ai Squared on what steps Panda Security could take
programmatically to make their products more accessible. That said, go
and read the write ups and reviews for Panda antivirus for yourself, and
it should almost immediately become clear to you that Panda Security is
at the very least, one heck of a contender, if not the top one outside
of the big box big brand name security software venders. Bottom line? I
would absolutely ditch Microsoft's so called Security Essentials because
while the app is without a doubt accessible, it is not secure, and it is
most definitely not, essential! For years now Ai Squared has been
recommending Nod32, and while it seems pretty mediocre to me as far as
protection/defense, almost anything you could install would trump
Microsoft security essentials and that's the honest truth. Thoughts?

Respectfully submitted,

Brandon Dean Miller

Weirdness in Outlook 2010 under Windows-7 and going to "my documents"

2. Again, without making any change in my part, when I press the shortcut I

seem to be names; I have to tab over and manually "open" my documents. Is
there any way to fix this other than by creating a new My Documents

Is there a disk management software that works well with WE on a Windows
10 system? Want to remove a couple of particians and seems there is no
way to do it with Windows 10.
I have deleted the HP recovery data in the recovery partician but it
still shows up using the Windows 10 disk management and seems there is
no way to change the size of the C drive to add the size of the recovery
partician.

This seems to be a problem for many of us. I'm using W.E. 9.2 and Windows
7. It happens when using Becky email and Firefox. Sometimes can come back
with the hot keys, but sometimes have to re-boot.I hope it gets fixed,
with the next upgrade.

When reading a window such as the Help About window of Firefox, remember
that a new feature was added to W E a couple of years ago. If Ctrl-shift-W
only reads the title bar of a window, press ctrl-shift-W a second time and
Window-Eyes will read the window by a different method. In the case of
Firefox, this is how you can get your version number, whether it is up to
date, and whether it is initiating a download of a newer version.

Hi, I don't write to the list often, However, I have the same type of speech

rebooting doesn't bring speech back. Is there any way to solve this problem?

The way I like to change the font is by highlighting the text I want to
change.

Press the Application Menu key or right click.

Arrow down to Font or press the letter F.

Arrow up and down the font selection and when you land on the one you want,
press the tab key to the type and size areas of the dialogue.

Then shift+tab to OK, this is a shorter path.

Now if you want that font size and type to be your default, tab to the Set
as Default button and press the enter key or spacebar, whatever you find to
be most convenient.

Tab to the radio buttons and select either this document only or all
documents through the normal template.

Tab to OK and all is good.

Word docs opening in full screen mode

2015-06-27 Thread john riehl via Talk
HI, list.

I've been having a problem whereby Windoweyes does not read a lot of docs
when I open them in MS Word-2010. A friend discovered that my documents are
coming up in full screen mode, as opposed to print mode. How do I change the
default view so that my docs always open in print mode so I can read and
edit them? I've looked around and it's not intuitively obvious how to do
this.

I'm using Office 2010 with the latest version of WE on a Windows-7 machine.

Thanks.

Documents not speaking when opening them in Word-10

2015-06-20 Thread john riehl via Talk
HI, list.

Often - but not always - when I open a document in MS-word 2010, a document
doesn't speak at all. When I arrow down a doc that's supposedly open,
Windoweyes does not speak anything. Sometimes if I alt-tab away and come
back to it, the document speaks fine.

Protected mode is disabled. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

For the record, JAWS works perfectly every time I open a document, so I know
it's not a Word issue.

Thanks for any help you can give!

 John

Problems with Amazon echo site using windoweyes

2015-06-20 Thread john riehl via Talk
I just rejoined the list, so I'm sure this has been discussed. I'm unable to
use the amazon echo site

https://echo.amazon.com site at all with Windoweyes.

I can't press enter because there are no links and WE does not vocalize
anything when I try to move the mouse cursor around. I'm using Firefox and
the latest version in Windoweyes in Windows-7.

My specific question is about the echo site; my more general question is:
why isn't WE voicing anything when I'm using the mouse keys in Firefox?

This happens with some websites but not all.

Thanks!

John

Subject: Inconsistancy with sounds on my PC

Well hello again listers,

And I sure hope I am not asking about an uncommon issue, namely my
sounds not appearing in anything like a consistent manner. Some mornings
I can turn on the computer, and all Windows sounds including the start
sound will be heard, and nothing else. Other times, the startup sound
wont be there, and the others will, at least I think it works that way.

Just this afternoon, like many times before, I had consistent sounds
with dialog boxes that would pop up in certain programs that I commonly
run, such as the dialog asking if I want the program to make changes to
my computer, and a box warning about the program's beta status, in a
Bookshare desktop client, but after running Total recorder, these
sounds completely disappeared. I opened up TR to allow system sounds
when recording, in order for the program not to tamper with my sound
scheme, but the sounds wouldn't come back even after I restarted the
computer. However the startup fanfare sound was heard.

BTW, my Thunderbird logo is never missing.

This isn't what I'd call an urgent issue, but nevertheless a frustrating
one. Hopefully this message makes sense. If any more clarification is
needed, please let me know.

If anybody could tell me how to solve this little problem, your help
would definitely be appreciated,

Larry

Word Docs not reading when initially opened

2015-03-29 Thread john riehl via Talk
I'm using Windows-7, MS-word 10 and WE 9.1. Over the past couple of months,
I've had a recurring problem: when I initially open an already-created
document in MS Word, WE does not read anything. I open the document, wait a
few seconds, then usually WE is silent; I arrow up and down, to the right,
left, and WE reads nothing. Sometimes if I wait 30 seconds or so the
document will be there and I can read it; sometimes if I alt-tab away and
alt-tab back, WE reads the document as I would expect.

I don't recall this behavior with previous versions of WE and I haven't made
any changes to my Word configuration that I know of.

What's happening and how can I fix it?

Word behaves as expected using JAWS.

Thanks.

RE: need help need to use Window-Eyes with Dragon Naturally speakinghome addision please read

2015-02-14 Thread john riehl via Talk
Dragon Naturally Speaking is a major accessibility app that's used by a fair
amount of people. To my knowledge, WE has never done any focused work to try
to get Windoweyes to support this program, which is a real shame. I, too,
would love WE to work well with Dragon.

Hi. I have to agree. Also, the guy who writes Jaysay was a former
Window-Eyes user for writing setFiles but then he started doing jfw scripts
and he is stuck in jfw land now

This is something that AI squared should really think about adding to
window-eyes. Not only do you have to have JAWS, but you also have to have a
program called j-say, wich costs a hole lot of money to get, and that is
ontop of JAWS.

hi, let me tell you whats up!
1, I can do any keybord commands needed to run my computer! so I don't need
voice input to control the computer. that is why I don't need Dragon
Naturally speaking pro.

2, I have disslexeya! so I am a bad speller! so bad that the spell checkers
in programs like word, outlook, and thunderbird, don't know what I am trying
to spell!
3, new to Window-Eyes, so I do not know how to write, make, or use aps!
4, Window-Eyes tec subport said that I should go to jaws if I wanted to
useDragon Naturally speaking! but I am trying to get away from jaws!
5, so I need to use Dragon Naturally speaking home addision.
6, when traning Dragon, I need an ap with a hot key that will start looking
from the top of the screen down for print of 1 color with the back ground of
an nother color, like plack on light-blue. then it would read the next 3 to
5 words. to tell me what to read.
7, when dictateing, I need a ap that will read what I am dictateing back to
me, a santence at a time.

how do I maximize my navigation pane inoutlook

2015-02-14 Thread john riehl via Talk
Somehow my navigation pane got minimized in outlook 2010; none of my
mailboxes are visible until I press the space bar. They become visible one
time then they minimize again.

How do I fix this?

I don't remember doing anything to minimize my mailboxes.

Thanks.
