Veronica, for me it is more of a personal thing. JAWS does a very good

they always want Money Money Money for their latest and greatest
upgrade,
and sometimes their latest upgrade is more like an Update, andcx isn't
all that much better than what you had bfore you spend an extra $200.
Then
they put a Copywrite protection on their program so an owner has
trouble
installing on more than one or two Systems.

And JAWS always seemed to be just a bit Buggy, and I hate it when I

in my system that caused the system lock up.

I am Joking, but I do understand that Blind people are all Thieves and
we would steal the Copper Penny's covering our dear Grandmother's eyes,
as she awaits her funeral, if we only could find her without someone
taking our hand and leading us up to the old girl.

Of course JAWS selling their program for over $1000 has nothing to do
with the desperation of many who are Blind.
Here is something to think about-
I am going to go out to the Computer Store tonight, and Purchase a Quad
Core 3.4 I5 System with 16 GB of RAM, and a 750 GB Hard Drive, for
$250.

We have a store here called Re-PC that takes in used systems, tests
them
and puts them up for sale.
So I can buy a used system for $250, and I think the Pro edition of
JAWS
is over $1200, maybe someone here can correct this figure.

When the Screen Reader costs four or almost five times as much as the
computer it will run upon, guess I have a problem with that.

And I know JAWS is a Company that is to make a profit for the owners,
and making a healthy profit is something I have no problem with a
Company doing. But there is the Greed factor that tends to raise its
uglyhead, and that is when a Company will charge what they believe the
Market will bare. And with most program sales getting paid for by our
Government, the same government that will pay $600 for a Toilet Seat,
why not charge Uncle SAM $1200 for a screen Reader program? After all,
Uncle SAM is good for it, even though few people who are Blind can
afford it, with most living on minimum wage jobs, or some level of
Social Security.

JAWS as a program, does many things right, and even better than Window
Eyes, in some cases.

I just never liked their method of doing business, or how they
interacted with their customers.

I stayed with GW Micro largely because they were a great group of

for AT&T,you would do the following:

1. In your emailer on your PC, go to the TO: field.

2. In that field, you would type:

1234567...@txt.att.net

where the numbers above you'd replace with the actual phone number to
which you want to send a text message. You can skip over the Subject:
heading and send up to 250 characters in the text message. Hope this

Hello,

Looks like most here have had to deal with these guys as well. Some of
your responses were quite good!A couple of them had me laughing.
Had me wishing they would call me back again so I could pull the same
stunts.

I did respond one time where I completely had the guy speechless.

Idiot Caller: Hello this is Windows Technical Support. We have
detected a problem with your computer.

Grumpy Dave: Sorry, but I use an Apple System. Apples do not run
MS Windows.

The guy didn't know what to say to that one.

Actually, I think Apple systems can run MS Windows, but if you have an
Apple, why put MS Windows on it? Well, I can see needing to run some
software that is only made for Windows. But even then, I think I would
just buy a cheap MS Windows System, rather than having a Dual-Boot Mac.

But thanks for the feed back for the question. I am not as concerned
about these calls now.

Grumpy Dave

The only way I can reply to more than one message, I have to exit wlm, and

When replying to my first message after starting we, it works as it should.
Here is where the problem starts. When I go to reply to my second message,
I
can’t use the arrow keys to review what I typed. The back space won’t speak

wineyes.set.
On the first message, It’s WindowsLiveMail.set.

Re: suggestions for window-eyes

2016-06-08 Thread kitty hevener via Talk
tom, I couldn't have said it better. Speech recognition is by no means
perfect. For instance, I can give my flip phone a command that it in theory
recognizes. Sometimes it does what I command it to and other times, the
result is way out in left field. And, in both instances, my amount of
background noise is the same. But, for those of us with repetitive motion
injuries in hands and arms, having a reliable speech option would be nice.
I hope dictation bridge is the answer. Am excited about its possibilities.

I'm glad you have no problems using the keyboard. Please take a second
and think about those who do. Then think of a writer who is able to
simply think out loud instead of being hampered by typing as fast as is
possible. I'm sure there are more examples of helpful and practical
reasons to use dictation. And freedom of choice isn't exactly a bad
thing; at least for those of us who live in a free society.

What I would like to see in the new windoweyes version are the following:

1. The ability to use windows speech recognition.

Currently, only System access works fully with this feature of windows.

2. Also, I would like to see an easier way to get in to safe mode

with

window-eyes. While safe mode is now accessible once you are in it,
you have no easy way to get in to safe mode.

jim, I tried it a few months ago. I followed the directions on the two part
tutorial that mark solomon put together. I think you can do most of it
yourself. I ran in to some issues that had nothing to do with windows 10 or
window-eyes. So, I ultimately had to get lots of help, including a complete
recovery of windows 7. I haven't tried since. In the tutorial, I seem to
recall having to ultimately reinstall the latest version of we. But, now
that we are on 9.4, don't know if that is still an issue.

Hi,
Can any of the folks that have gone through the upgrade process from 7 or 8
to 10 tell me if they were able to do it themselves, or if they needed
sighted assistance? How did the procedure go, and how did you know when it
was completed?
After installing WindowEyes 9.4 as the screen reader, what changes do I need
to make to 10 to make things work as well as Windows 7, and where do I go to
make the changes?
After the upgrade, is it still necessary to download a full version of 10 to
do a clean install?
I’m planning on giving the upgrade a go over the weekend, without sighted
help, so any advice, hints or tips, will be greatly appreciated.

Regards.
Jim.

You could probably stop this, but as Microsoft seem to change its name

you decide when, or whether to upgrade to Windows 10.

As far as I know, you may not need to be as concerned after July 29, as
MicroSoft is going to charge for updating to Windows 10 after that, so, I
doubt they will push it as heavily at that point.

If you want to download this tool, you can get it from:

http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/

There are both an installer and a stand-alone executable that you can just
run if you don't like installers.

The advantage of installing the product is that it can watch your system and
warn you if MicroSoft begins pushing Windows 10 to you.

Hope this helps.

I'm running the latest version (2.2) and it works fine with Window-Eyes
9.3 on Windows 7 and 10.

Regarding the recent vulnerability? Here's the blog post at their site.
If you have the premium version you can solve this by turning on
Self-protection under Settings, Advanced. If you don't have premium you
don't have any protection other than an after the fact manual scan.

Hi: Yup, WE does not usually read that dialog, just locks up.
I just ran through some web pages that lock up allot with WindowEyes using
JAWS.
After navigating through a few of them JAWS reported that Internet Explorer
was not responding and had the buttons to close the program.
WindowEyes will just lock up and you have to use narrator or another screen
reader to close, even to be aware of, that dialog.
I have seen WindowEyes lock up like this in other programs as well although
not as often and it is likely that if a program has a problem WindowEyes
will lock up instead of continuing to work unlike other screen readers.
Someone had had a problem like this with some game and found it was that
WindowEyes had some kind of threading problem where it locks up if a program
locks up and he had to set some priority for either the game or WindowEyes
to get around this if I remember.
I don't know how to set the WindowEyes threading priority nor the Internet
threading priority to test this whether this might at least get the dialog
to read - any ideas?

Regarding anti-virus software? It doesn't matter to sighted folks
because they're not using a screen-reader, which by its very nature can
be seen as a key logger because it hooks the keyboard at a low level. I
saw this with Webroot. There is nothing AI can do other than ask them to
whitelist it in their program. And if it's too much to ask we can't use
that anti-malware. So they make the choice for us.

I am retiring.

My career in the Assistive Technology industry started in the late 80's,
working for Computer Aids Corp. for a couple years, where I met Doug
Geoffray. Then I partnered with Doug to launch GW Micro in 1990 which
operated for 24 years, followed by our merging into Ai Squared in 2014. So
now, after almost 28 years in the AT industry, it's time for me to take a
break. I will be retired from Ai Squared after this week. No worries - the
rest of the Fort Wayne office and staff will continue as normal - whatever
normal means .

I'm not very active on this list but I look at many of the posts and I know
many of your names even if we rarely talk on the phone or meet in person. I
will continue to support Ai Squared and if the opportunity presents itself
who knows - I might come back for a few special projects from time to time.
Thank you very much for your support and friendship.

One thing I understand - this industry is very different from all others.
The people I know not only want to stay active, employed or stay in business
but they also want to make the world a better place by providing quality
products and services. You should all be proud of whatever contribution you
personally make.

Thank you all again for your friendship and loyalty over the many years.

number seven twice quickly. (the seven key is the one on the top row of
numbers, not the numpad).
2. Sometimes the attachments will be listed here. If, instead of hearing
the attachments, you hear "quick access toolbar", press escape key once.

3. Use arrow keys to find attachments.
4. When you have found the attachment you want, press alt-f to get into the
file menu.

5. Press down arrow till we says "save as".
6. Press right arrow one time and we should say "file".
7. Press down arrow one time and should hear attachments.
8. Press enter to select this option. This puts you in a dialog box. If
you want to save all attachments at the same time, choose the "select all"
option.

Hope that helps. Let me know if u need more help.

I just tested this on my Windows 10 32-bit PC running IE 11, Firefox 43.02

and jumped to the first combo box. I turned Browse Mode off with Enter.
Window-Eyes then voiced the combo box selection as I arrowed through the
list with Up and Down arrow. I then tabbed to all the other combo boxes on
the page and they also read as expected. I am using the default settings in
both browsers other than setting my home page to Google. The only thing I
can think of is maybe the combo boxes you are working with are empty would
explain why nothing speaks with Up and Down arrow.

a huge under-statement. I literally have a web page, that is all text

up and down a web page, and i'm hearing nothing. Has anyone else
experienced problems like this? I'm really beginning to think that this
computer may not be physically able to handle it. This is a win 7
machine with 4 gigs of ram. It's about 4 years old. I almost feel like
i've taken a step backwards. Any thoughts on why we wouldn't be reading
this page. I can tab around, but i see no text.

Subject: New app - Itunes Enhance!

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you know that I’ve submitted a new app which
enhances the accessibility and functionality of Itunes.

I have included the documentation for the app below for your convenience.
The app, called Itunes Enhance, is found in the Program Enhancements
category, next to the Itunes app, created by AI Squared.

The App Central URL is:

https://www.gwmicro.com/App_Central/Apps/App_Details/?scriptid=1432

In summary, the app defines three program-specific hotkeys for toggling
playback, as well as rewind and fast ford.

I hope you enjoy the added functionality provided by this app, and, for the
perennially curious, please read on for the details.

All the best,

Rod Hutton

Welcom to Itunes Enhance!

This app enhances the accessibility and functionality of Itunes, Apple’s
popular media player.

Features of the initial release of Itunes Enhance

This app was initially created to correct two problems for screen-reader
users of Itunes:

First, you will notice that the first option in the Controls menu is Play,
and the hotkey assigned to it is Space. However, you may have noticed that
pressing the spacebar does not, in fact, always toggle playback, and this
depends on the control which has focus in Itunes. It certainly works when
focus is on a tree view or list view, but not when on the many static boxes,
and certainly not when focus is on buttons which serve other purposes, such
as the sorting of content. Clearly, there is need for a hotkey which the
user can count on to toggle the playback of the current item.

Second, you will also notice that the Controls menu contains no option for
rewinding and fast forwarding the currently playing track; indeed, a search
for Itunes hotkeys on the web will lead to many independent web pages which
include hotkeys for these two functions in their lists, and, typically,
Control-Alt-Left arrow and Control-Alt-Right arrow, for rewind and fast
forward, respectively. Further evidence that these hotkeys once worked in
Itunes is that the set file supplied by AI Squared have these hotkeys
configured as program-specific and left undefined; normally, they are
configured as global, and are two of the four used to adjust speech
parameters. Certainly there is evidence that rewind and fast forward once
were part of the functionality of Itunes, and clearly there is a need for
access to these functions,if Itunes supports them, and, if so, for
easily-accessible hotkeys for them.

Controlling Itunes behind the scenes

The result of my search of the web has revealed that there is a way to
control Itunes other than through the normal user interface, namely, through
its programmable COM object. In the same way that app developers can create
apps to control Window-Eyes for specific purposes, and this is because it
also has a programmable COM object, the functions of Itunes can be
controlled in the same way. My examination of the Itunes COM object has
revealed that, among many functions, the playback of the current track can
be started, paused, rewound and fast forwarded. It was a simple matter for
me, then, to create an app which assigns these functions to Window-Eyes
hotkeys.

The app menu

In the initial release of the app, the Itunes Enhance option on the
Window-Eyes Apps menu has a single option, namely, Help, which opens the
typical Help dialog for the app. This contains the read-only edit box
containing the present documentation, as well as a button which opens the
Hotkey Manager dialog where you can review and reassign the app hotkeys.

The hotkeys and their functions

In the initial release of Itunes Enhance, three program-specific hotkeys are
assigned:

PlayPause. This hotkey (F12, by default) will start and pause playback of
the current track; it will also resume normal playback if the track is in
rewind or fast forward mode. If you wish to completely stop rather than
pause the current track, press the dedicated Itunes hotkey, which, as of
this writing, is Control-..

Rewind. When a track is playing, this hotkey (F10, by default) will start
rewind mode, where you can hear fragments of the track audio as it skips
backward; normal playback can be resumed by pressing the PlayPause hotkey;
also, normal playback will resume automatically when the beginning of the
track is reached.

FastForward. When a track is playing, this hotkey (F11, by default) will
start fast forward mode, where you can hear fragments of the track audio as
it skips forward; normal playback can be resumed by pressing the PlayPause
hotkey; if the end of the track is reached, normal playback will resume with
the next track in the currrent list of tracks, or, if

creating and editing powerpoint slides and notes, saving and opening
powerpoint file, and navigating between slides. Also interested in filling
out a .pdf form with we. If it helps, can send you an example of the type
of form am thinking of.

Subject: Webinar and tutorial topics - feedback requested

Ai Squared would like to request your feedback. What topics, applications
and tasks would you like for us to cover in a future Window-Eyes webinar or
tutorial? The more information and details you can provide the better. Here
are a few examples to get your creative juices flowing:

1. Using the Start Menu in Windows 10
2. Finding apps in the Windows Store
3. Purchasing a product from Amazon.com
4. What is ARIA and how can it help me on the web?
5. What is a Window-Eyes app?

Thanks,
Marc Solomon

using we to access some features on tunein.com

2015-10-19 Thread kitty hevener via Talk
I just got a premium level subscription to tunein.com. This service gives
access to live broadcasts of all nfl games, college football, many other
sports, music, talk radio, and ability to listen to audio books. While I
understand there is an ap for using it with smart phones, I am just using it on
my home computer.

I am asking for help figuring out how to change broadcasts so that the one I
want is actually playing. It’s easy enough to find a link for the program I
want. However, when I press enter to select it, the station I no longer want
continues to play and the desired one does not. The title bar leads me to
believe that I am on desired station. Just can’t get the old one to stop and
the new one to start. So far, the only work around is to exit the program, log
in again and select the desired station. Hope there is an easier way! Make
sense?

Also, signing up, which is necessary even for the seven day free trial, is
doable but not as easy as it could be. To find out was was needed for many of
the form fields, I had to turn browse mode on to read around, then turn it off
and enter the info. Ctrl-shift-n and ctrl-shift-d did not read anything.

Hello thanks for the update, am still not going to pay 100 dollars to
get the broadcast. Since am a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I do listen to
the game on 94 WIP on the website cbsphilly.com. I know where to go to
listen to the broadcast and you get it in sterrio. I also found that
freefootballradio.com works well since you don't have to pay anything
for the sources I mentioned. Just thought I would give everyone some
info to save money. Enjoy the season.

In case anyone is interested, the gamepass from the NFL now works
reasonably well. It is possible to get to live, game day radio of
teams and also to the archived broadcasts, at least most of the time
by clicking a link. Those links do not come up until the radio is
available, maybe 20 minutes before the actual broadcast.

It's a lot later than I personally would have liked, but if you want
to listen to NFL radio coverage of a team not in your geographic area
they are probably the only game in town.

Two nights ago I wrote here that my Windows 7 system was stable with only an
occasional crash with IE 11. Just to make a liar out of me, my system locked
up pretty completely last night when I was loading a document into Adobe
Reader XI. Even if I restarted Window-Eyes, as indicated by the opening
sound, Eloquence wouldn't restart. I tried starting NvDA 2015-3 also, and
finally heard a few words out of NVDA as the system was closing down as part
of a restart.
I have set up sounds that give a high-pitched click when a process starts,
and a click an octave lower when a process closes. When the crash occured
during the loading of the PDF document, a process started, stopped after a
few seconds, and another or the same one started and stopped again. I really
don't know what ran. It could have been Security Essentials, but this
doesn't normally get in the way. There was no evidence that a new Windows
update had been installed. No Window-Eyes errors were generated.
After the restart, I was able to read the same PDF with the same program
without incident. Go figure.

Jed,
If you don't care about watching Flash based video content on the web in
Firefox, then your best option would be to disable the Shockwave Flash
plugin. This will prevent the plugin from running and crashing. If you want
to do this, open the Tools menu in Firefox with Alt-T. Down Arrow to Add-ons
and press Enter. A new tab will open in Firefox. Turn Browse Mode off and
then Tab until you hear Extensions. Down Arrow until Plugins is selected.
Then Tab until you reach the list of plugins. Next, Down Arrow until you
find Shockwave Flash. Tab to the pull down menu that says Always Activate.
Down Arrow to select Never Activate. Restart (exit and re-open) Firefox and
the plugin should be disabled.

Regards,
Marc

Re: problematic website, need help please

2015-08-10 Thread kitty hevener via Talk
Hi Chris, o this leads me to believe that I must not have something in ie or
we set properly. Below the link for "free fantasy football", I see "login"
and then under that, I see a heading that says "login".

If I can manage to beat the firefox message about shockwave not responding,
I have made a bit more progress.

I just tried with firefox,IE and chrome, I can find the two box, username
and password.

Maybe the java script or some browser plugin which that particular website
needs its disable at your end in IE.
Or maybe your security program is doing the deed as well. It can be
anything. But as window-eyes is concern at my end, its picking up those edit
boxes.

Hi, I can’t find anything on this login screen that allows me to enter my
username and password. I see the words “log in” as a heading and those same
words above the heading. Am using we 9.2 and ie 11. Also tried ie 10
before installing ie 11. I have tried hitting enter on the “heading” label,
routing the mouse pointer to the pc cursor to single and double click with
left mouse button and single click with right mouse button. No success.
Also tried firefox but no luck. Please help as I need my fantasy football

Re: NFL audio pass

2015-08-10 Thread kitty hevener via Talk
yes, I have written to them and get back that the audiopass is no longer
available. They are pushing gamepass. Still trying to find out if that
package offers an option for listening to live radio broadcasts and whether
it is accessible to screen reading software. So far, no response.

they're pushing something called GamePass which includes Audio and Video

I talked with someone at the NFL who told me that they will no longer be
supplying audio pass. This was a service that allow you to listen to NFL
teams using the home feeds of the individual radio broadcasts of the
teams.

It's great if you want to follow a team that isn't in your area.
Anyway, if someone stumbles onto another source for home team radio
coverage on the net I'd like to know. Terry Chaney

Thank goodness for Sirius-XM radio and specifically thank goodness for
Radium which makes Sirius-XM easy to use. They have both home and away
feeds for all NFL games including the post season.
