Re: Win 10 And WE 9.5.4

2020-09-03 Thread Michael Fridey via Talk

Hi Rod lets thank the God of Window

eyes keeping it alive very hard to kill a great program that just worked
straight out the box.

And i once said on a list just after We was discontinued i said that We
would work for a few more win 10 versions.

And its true so far.

cheers Michael 😀

Hi Tom,

At one time, there were a few apps which needed to be either disabled or
uninstalled in order for Window-Eyes to work in Windows 10.
On my current system, which runs the latest version of Windows 10, this is no
longer true.
Without exception, every default Window-Eyes app is running here.
A few months back, someone had written to this list with the news that they had
even gotten an app update from the Window-Eyes server.
No doubt, this was because they had an outdated app, but I recall being very
surprised to hear that app updates where available from the old Window-Eyes
server.
I know for certain that there was a time when the Window-Eyes app update server
was not active.
My guess is that there is some guardian angel or angels keeping Window-Eyes
working for the many people throughout the world who need it.
I am one of those who need it.
I have yet to find any other screen reader which allows me to manage the
connection and disconnection of attached devices between the host and virtual
machines on the current version of VMWare Workstation.
Indeed, this is very surprising to me, that is, that I cannot get Jaws or NVDA
or Narrator to focus those device icons, but the truth is before me, and so I
am saved by Window-Eyes.
Also, I have yet to find a screen reader which is as perky reading email in
Outlook which is part of Microsoft 365.
Microsoft 365 is the new name of Office 365, the subscription-based Office
product.
The Office Enhance and Outlook Enhance Window-Eyes apps work perfectly to allow
me to read and write in Outlook.
So, Tom, I simply want to suggest that you don't give up on Window-Eyes.

Take good care,

Rod

Could it be the APPS interfering with Windows 10?

When I figure out how to remove Window-Eyes I'll try
 installing it with no apps.

Re: from window eyes to jaws to NVDA

2018-02-23 Thread michael fridey via Talk

I first started with jaws 3.2 but it did not work on internet very good.

So i brought window eyes and use it since 2004.

But i had a SMA from window eyes so i took the offer from VFo.

Doug said that he would look after us WE users and he did.

I rather WE but i will not cut off my nose to spite my face.

I still use WE plus like my good friend Rod we both like our Macs as well.

So i still want to use my win ten machines so i will run we till it does
not work.

But i am lernig jaws on my machines all running win 10 i do not find
jaws clunky or sluggish.

Cheers michael.

I realize that you can't speak for others, and that each of us has
different needs, priorities, and biases, but I wonder why why some find
Jaws to be clunky while others (such as you) are quite satisfied. I
wonder if using "outdated" software (such as Windows-7) contributes to
the problem.

That said, while I took advantage of the Jaws offer, I have yet to
migrate to Jaws and have yet to download Windows-10.  Things are running
smoothly and I hate to rock the boat.  The other issue which makes me
hesitate is Jaws' reliance on the insert key.  I use a left-handed
keyboard with the microsoft feature Sticky Keys and have never really
understood how to incorporate the insert feature with the caps lock key,
but I digress.

jaws can be unloaded with insert or capslock and f4 keys
you can change the jaws key from the insert key to the capslock key
two ways.

by changeing to the laptop layout.
or if useing the desktop layout you can go to the settings center then

then click okay and nothing happen so i had to click cansil.
I wasted hours today.
So why will windows not see the drive after the first re start.

I have a 32 Gig SSD drive. I upgraded to 1709 with 8 Gig available on the

programs you have installed, or do a refresh of your PC, which will reinstall
Windows and get rid of all of the junk on the drive Make sure that you back up
everything that you have saved on the drive, and save all installation files
for your programs, so you can reinstall them after you upgrade to 1709.

To be honest, I'm also thinking that it may be a good thing that I cannot
update to the current Windows 10, and, if I'm lucky, I'll keep this version
until my PC dies.
That way, I'll never have to worry about Window-Eyes not reading my screens,
and I'll never need to go through the B.S. of an update, i.e., waiting for it
to install, and at the wrong time.
If it it ain't broke, and maybe now that it is, I won't fix it. (smile)
Thanks also to David and Tom for there insights and suggestions as well.

Hi Rod:

What you can try is to reinstall the latest version of Window-eyes
that you have been using and then use the imergency removal tool to
uninstall it.
Good Luck.

On 10/18/17, Rod Hutton via Talk wrote:

Hi everyone,

I checked for updates manually in my Windows 10 Home system today, and, when
attempting to install the update I got the message that two apps would have
to be uninstalled since they were incompatible with the update.
These were named Window-Eyes 9.1 and below and Window-Eyes 9.3.
This is quite puzzling insofar as I completely uninstalled Windo-Eyes 9.5.4
and reinstalled it.
For one thing, I could never have installed version 9.1 on this machine
since I got the system with Windos 10.
Okay, I began with Window-Eyes 9.2 and upgraded it along the way, but
insofar as I completely removed Window-Eyes 9.5.4 and then reinstalled it,
it looks as if Windows thinks I have old Window-Eyes files hanging around.
Incidentally, just to be sure, although I had uninstalled Window-Eyes 9.5.4
using Add/Remove Programs, I also downloaded and ran the Windo-Eyes Removal
tool just to be certain nothing was missed.
At this point, then, I cannot move forward to install the newest edition of
Windows 10.
I certainly can call the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk and see if they
can fix it.
However, I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to
mine.

Thanks,

Rod

For some reason when I installed I set start up at the log in screen. But a
couple of times when I shutdown my computer then came back and turned on my
computer Jaws did not start so I had to have a sighted person help me locate
the desktop icon so I could press enter to start jaws.

I am still trying to learn the menus of Jaws which is frustrating and I can
not find where the start up options are located so I can double check things
to make sure I have it set up properly and if not to set start up like I
want it.

Thanks for any help it is appreciated. Dave

You know that you can still go through window-eyes help, check for
updates, and then download the latest version update.
I hope you have saved passed cd's and you can use the last cd--I
think back to window-eyes 8.0 and then install this latest update.
As far as buying a replacement cd if you have lost yours, I have know
idea if they will still sell you one for $20 like they used to or
not.
I keep every cd and every update that I get, just so I can install on
my other computers without downloading again.
