Find the first file you wish to delete, hold down the control key, go

file you wish to delete, tap the space bar, (remember during all this
the control key is held down), and so forth until you have hit space
bar on all the files you wish to remove.

Now, after letting up on control, hit delete.

If you wish to truly delete all those files and don't wish them in

You should get a prompt which is a wee bit different than "moving to

RE: Help needed: Deleting multiple files

2019-10-10 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
Morene,

Whether this works for email will depend upon the email program you use and
perhaps even the version. I just tried it on Outlook that I get with Office
365 and it did work as described. The best thing to suggest is that you give
it a try on messages you were going to delete anyway. Of course, if you delete
a message you wanted to keep, you should be able to move it from your trash or
"deleted" folder back into your in-box.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

but when I did choose to let it do so, on each of the files in question,
and then pressed Del to delete - Only the currently focused file will be
deleted. In other words, none of the other files I thought I had marked,
did actually receive any marking.

Hope all of this makes any sense. By The Way, is this kind of operation
more accessible in either of the other Screen Readers, NVDA or Jaws. If
so, what's the procedure, please?

Thanks all,

Listers,

I have tried figuring this out, but seem to be blank-minded today.
Anyone has some experience, please let me know.

I have a folder, holding numerous files. I open it in Windows Explorer,
and arrow my way down through the list of files.

It occurs, that I need to delete several of the files. Fine, if they had
been right next to each other, I would have used the Shift-Arrow
combinations - selecting the files to be deleted, and then press Del-key.

Thing is, the files are spread out all over the list. I need to delete
say file number 1, 4 and 6. So exactly

how

do I go about that one. I searched the net, and it said to use the
CTRL-key, along with the mouse. If I hold the CTRL along with the Slash
or Star on the numeric keypad, simulating the Left or Right clicks on
the mouse, I only hear

"Slash"

and

"Star"

spoken, and nothing else happens.

It further claimed you alternatively should use CTRL-Space, and it would
select the file currently focused. Thing is, I tried that one too, and
it still does not work. So what is the clue?

How does one select multiple files, in Windows Explorer, with the use of
WinEyes.

To make it more complicated for you, I did try yet another approach. I
used the Insert-Del combination on the numeric keypad. It gave me the
chance to

MARK

but when I did choose to let it do so, on each of the files in question,
and then pressed Del to delete - Only the currently focused file will be
deleted. In other words, none of the other files I thought I had marked,

RE: Help needed: Deleting multiple files

2019-09-28 Thread Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc. via Talk
David, what you are trying to accomplish can be done using Windows
keystrokes. Hold down the Control key after the first item has been
selected. Selecting the first item means plus a focus on it. Then, press
the spacebar.

Next, use the down arrow key to find the next item you wish to delete whilst
still holding down the control key. When you find it, press the spacebar
again to select it.

When you have found and selected all the items you wish to delete, release
the control key and then press the Delete key. All selected items will be
deleted.

Remember, this is a noncontinguous selection. The control MUST BE HELD DOWN
whilst using the down arrow to choose the item to be deleted and then
pressing the spacebar to select each one without letting go of the control
key until all choices have been made.

Sincerely,
Olusegun

Re: Help needed: Deleting multiple files

2019-09-28 Thread Carol Smith via Talk

Hi David,

I am behind in email, so if you already received your answer, simply
delete this message.

First, find the first file in the list. It will now be selected.
Next, hold down the control key and start arrowing through the list.
All files will be deselected except the one you already highlighted.
Find the next file by arrowing through the list and press the spacebar.
It is very important that you do not remove your finger from the control
key at any time during this process.
To verify your next file has been selected, keep your finger on the
control key and arrow up or down once and if the unwanted file is not
selected, WE should speak that.
Now, go back to your original second file and listen for not selected.
If you do not hear that, you now have two files selected and ready to be
moved or copied.
You can repeat the above step as many times as you need, If your second
file was selected when you arrowed back to it.
If you select something you did not want, simply press the spacebar to
deselect that one file.

At this point, press ctrl-c or ctrl-v, depending on whether you plan to
cut or move your files which should now be on the clipboard for copying
or moving.

I know this was a drawn out explanation, but it does work for me.

Carol

Re: Help needed: Deleting multiple files

2019-09-28 Thread David via Talk
Thanks, at least you got me on the right track. For everyone's benefit,
below is the method outlined. As such, I hope we have contributed to
make the daily computing somehow easier for other users. Sure saves some
time, when you have to delete several files in a given folder.

1. Open the folder in Windows Explorer.
2. Arrow to the first file you want to mark.
3. Press Ctrl-Space, which will deselect all files in the folder.
4. Press Ctrl-Space again, which will select the currently focused file.
5. Importantly, Keep holding down the Ctrl-key, and use your Up- and
Down-keys, to scroll to the next file you want to mark.
6. Reaching the next file of interest, again press Ctrl-Space, to have
it marked out.
7. Keep repeating steps 5 and 6, till you have selected all files of
your interest.
8. Once you are done selecting, you can let go of the Ctrl-key.
9. Now that you have the files sselected, you can either press the
Del-key to have them removed from your computer; or, you can use the
Ctrl-C to copy, or rather the Ctrl-X to move the files to another
location on your system.

Hope this helps everyone. Thanks again for the assistance.
