RE: WE and IE 11
Hi, If you are on a button that you can't activate and you don't want to close and restart Internet Explorer, there are a few things to be sure to try first. If the button is in the tab order. SHIFT TAB and then TAB back to it. It is sometimes worth pressing ALT-TAB to move away from Internet Explorer and then ALT-TAB to get back to it. Turning Browse Mode off and on can sometimes unstick things. If you can tab to the button in question with Browse Mode off, that can work as well. Of course, restarting Window-Eyes might be an answer as well. Finally, routing the mouse pointer to the button and pressing the left click key, usually NUMPAD SLASH, might work. If one of these suggestions works, it might be a shortcut around the problem for now. Now that I have had to move to JAWS and have experimented with other screen readers, I have found that it is very possible that problems you encounter are not strictly caused by Window-Eyes. In all fairness, some problems can be caused by how a web browser and a screen reader interact. Still, I have become increasingly frustrated with Internet Explorer and other screen readers as well. Unfortunately, there is no perfect combination. I have tried to use Google Chrome more, and sometimes it is very much better than Internet Explorer, but I have some sites where Internet Explorer still works the best. Some of what you are experiencing might well be happening even if Window-Eyes was still being developed, but given where things stand, being familiar with other browsers and other screen readers even if not JAWS is something that is worth your time, unfortunately. Re: WE and IE 11
Pam, This reminds me of a strange occurrence I forgot about. For some reason when I'm in IE and I take a break, whether it's for an hour or just to go get a cup of coffee, sometimes when I come back nothing will read on the page. But I haven't lost speech, just browse mode. So nothing speaks if I arrow around. And Control-Shift-A does nothing. But if I press Alt-D to go to the address bar that speaks. then I press F6 to jump back to the page and I land right where I was and everything works fine. Re: WE and IE 11
No not just your setup - crashes are more often, braille display freezes more often, and Window-Eyes tracks elements like combo boxes more erratically. Whilst on this general topic: Freedom Scientific are open about developing JFW from the ground up to work with Edge. Why is it that Freedom is open about this, but AI Squared is not/ Vaughan. Hi Don, I too have noticed recently that WE seems to crash more often now using IE, but as no one else has really mentioned it, I thought it was just my set up. Try f6, it may help. Don H via Talk talk@lists.window-eyes.com wrote: Running WE 9.1 on a win 8.1 system using IE 11. On what seems to be a random thing when going to a random web site I am stuck up in the heading area of IE and not on the web page. Tabbing, refreshing or redrawing the page does not fix the issue. Close IE and try the same web site and it may or may not work correctly. Is there another trick to get back on the web page and out of the IE header area?
