You could also do Windows-I for Settings, End to get to Windows Update,
followed by Enter.

Hi,

This laptop is six years old. With only three gigs of ram and a dual-core

fro my peripherals which are nearly as old may also be an issue. I just
bought a new condo so there isn't room in the budget for a new computer.

do you have the service packs installed? you won't get updates until you do.
if you installed the windows mail hack this may also block the updates.
with me i could not install the service packs after i installed the windows

i had to wipe the drive and reinstall windows 7 and not use the windows

hack. then the service packs would install.
no more hacks for me.

Amanda,Unfortunately, not all computers are able to be upgraded to Windows 10.
I have one machine, for example, which does not have an OEM display driver
updated for Windows 10. Hence, I am stuck on Windows 7 with no updates having
been received ince the end of April.Rajiv

Hi Dan,

To be honest, and hoping not to disappoint you, a duo-core CPU and only three
gigs of RAM are quite low system specs, especially running the latest version
of Window-Eyes.
Perhaps avoiding using any other software and waiting for the updates to
install might help.
Indeed, even running Narrator rather than Window-Eyes might improve speed, at
least until the updates are done.
Perhaps I'm grasping at straws, but you never know. smile

With respect,

Rod

Re: Windows Update Question

2016-06-19 Thread net bat via Talk
don't be fooled by this statement. download speed for windows update has
little to do with weather you are useing 7 or 10 with the same service plan
you are useing.
it has to do on how much traffic there is on the microsoft server, how much
trafic on comcast. like how many people on comcast in your area is streaming
netflix and hulu. etc. if microsoft server in your area is down.
if you are streaming netflix on your system and trying to download windows
updates at the same time etc.

it could be many things that slow down the updates..
again it could be that a critical update failed and can block any further
updates from being installed until the failed update has been installed.

do you have the service packs installed? you won't get updates until you do.
if you installed the windows mail hack this may also block the updates.
with me i could not install the service packs after i installed the windows
mail hack. the windows repair tool did nothing either.
i had to wipe the drive and reinstall windows 7 and not use the windows mail
hack. then the service packs would install.

no more hacks for me.

Windows Update Question

2016-06-19 Thread Dan Rathburn via Talk

Hello,

Two important updates were available for Windows 7 today. I have the
fastest residential internet service from Comcast. I am wondering why
downloading these updates has been in progress for several hours. Last
week, thirteen important updates took almost six hours to download and
install. Could someone offer an explanation for this. Running WE 9.4, Win
7 HP 64-bit, I.E. 11 on an Acer laptop with 3 gigs of ram and a dual-core
AMD processor.

Thanks,

Dan

Re: Windows Update Question

open the start screen and type in windows update.
you can also type in show icons. one of the results should be show or hide
common desktop icons.

there you can check the icons you want to show on the desktop.
like user files ,network and the control panel. then you can go directly to the
control panel like you did with xp and windows 7. windows updates, user
accounts, sounds etc. are still there.
