Re: windows 7 or 10?
Hi, there are not a lot of surprises compared to windows 7 which I had for several years. The main difference is the damn "ribbon" menus in windows explorer / file explorer. Why, such as in Internet Explorer they left the menus alone, didn't they they leave the others as they were? :) whine, whine, I know, but, many of us hate these so-called menus. Events happen faster in Windows 10, such as pages loading from the net in my experience, though I do have the silent periods of window-eyes as many users do, but I just hit control-alt-w, and WE comes right back again, usually telling me what has happened, or figuring out itself how to continue with what I was doing. You'll definitely boot allot faster than windows 7! -- Curtis Delzer On Tue, 11 Aug 2015 08:28:12 -0700 Bud Schwab via Talk wrote: > Hi Guys, > > My windows pc is on it's last leg and I'm going to replace it. RE: windows 7 or 10?
Exactly.i made the upgrade as well having bought a new machine with windows 8.1 and I could not wait when I got the notification to update to windows 10. I plan on buying a few more windos 10 machines for work and home to replace my aging computer lineup in the house and in my professional office. ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. RE: windows 7 or 10?
Hi Bud, There's much I could say about buying a new PC, and this is because I just got a new one a week or so ago. My previous OS was Windows 7 and now I'm using Windows 10, which made sense to me, given that all my hardware is new. It was recommended by my tech person to get a SSD drive, that is, a solid state drive, for the drive where Windows runs and the programs are installed, since these run very fast compared to spinning disks. So, I got a 250 GB drive for the OS and then additional drives to store my media and documents. I got a quad-core processor, again, for speed, and 16 GB RAM in case I want to run virtual machine software like VMWare or Virtual Box. As for Windows 10, I like it a lot, and the only real difference from Windows 7 which is a bit of a pain in the behind is that, like the current modern versions of Office, you have to use a ribbon to do many of the file management configuration operations; however, since this is not normally something you have to do very often, that is, configuring settings, you can live with it. Many of the commands are identical, for example, responding to the U.A.C prompt using Alt-Y. One thing you have to get used to however is that, when you paste a file to a location which already has the same filename present, you will be confronted with two buttons, namely, skip or replace, and I had to arrow between them before I realized that, indeed, they were buttons, and, previously in Windows 7, you could tab between them, and not true in Windows 10. There are many other little peculiarities in Windows 10, but they are pretty minor overall, and, given that you're pretty smart, I don't think you'll have much trouble. Feel free to write off-list as well, if you wish. smile Good luck, Rod -Original Message- From: Talk [mailto:talk-bounces+rod_hutton=hotmail@lists.window-eyes.com] On Behalf Of Bud Schwab via Talk Sent: August 11, 2015 11:28 AM To: windoweyes Subject: windows 7 or 10? Hello: There is absolutely no reason for you to upgrade to W7: in fact, you will actually lose some accessibility.
