Re: Windows ten creators' update issues.

2017-04-13 Thread Bob Tinney via Talk
I installed the creater update yesterday and did so using narrator. The
install went quickly in about 20 minutes and had no problem with the
update. Everything was spoken by narrator and I did have a keyboard
hooked to my desktop computer. I was actually surprised by how fast the
upgrade went.

Now my question is what has changed by the upgrade? The only thing that
I've noticed is that narrator now must be started by Control windows enter.

I had to find a USB mouse, get my neighbor to come in here and press the
"next" button with the mouse, and, of course, we had no keyboard so he
had to use the "virtual" keyboard available in "ease of access center,"
to tap in my PIN which I used at that time to log onto my machine,
because I used my Microsoft account so, in case I had a future machine
identified with my Microsoft account.
My neighbor, then, with very little computer experience, had to find a
way through all of the activity happening, (finishing the update,
downloading fixes to creator edition), and, then, since I was talking
with the Microsoft representative connect my computer to his for fixing.
We found out that on my machine, when the Microsoft account was having
to be logged into, with my pin being requested, I had no keyboard since
the default after the update was with "filter keys" turned on, and
though the Microsoft rep turned them off more than once, they got turned
on again before my PIN was requested every time a re-boot occurred. So,
his solution was to set me up with a local account for now.
The "no keyboard" situation was ugly, imagine a blind person without a
keyboard, and no way to call narrator during the update because of that,
and then, sounds being redirected somewhere else.
I did, while my computer was silent, plug headphones into my computer,
but with no activity, hung on the welcome screen, there is no potential
for sounds to occur, and with no keyboard, how was I to know if my
silent narrator was approaching the "next" key with the mouse. Narrator
did not stay with me after the last boot, and with no way to invoke it I
was hung.
So BE WARE! On your machine all may go swimmingly, but it sure did not
on mine, and I still do not know if I can re-invoke my Microsoft account
with it's PIN used to log into my machine.

RE: searching in windows ten

Hi Brice,

The search methodology is the same as it was in Windows 7 or 8.
Open the parent folder in which the files or folders are likely to be, and then
tab to the search edit box and type your search string, and press Enter.

you can turn cortana off in the privacey settings. you can also set the search
to only search locally on your computer only and not on the net. but i don't
remember where this setting is.

for files you could use the file explorer. i think its in the sys tray.
this is all from memory because i seldom use windows 10 at all. thats on

Are you using the MCT? If so, you will need to remove the wineyes

Hi,
A couple ways to do it.
1. If your keyboard has multimedia keys, you can use those to change the
volume.

2. Focus the speaker icon on the notification area (windows-b)
Press enter and use your up/down arrow keys.

2016-06-18 Thread net bat via Talk

if its there look for volume control in the sys tray.
do not adjust the volume control there. this is the master volume for all
devices, includeing window eyes.
arrow down to mixer. in the mixer you have a volume control for each device
that is running.

sometimes youwill see the flash player, window eyes, system soundes etc.
usually the firefox or i e volume will control the volume of the audio or video
you are listening to in a browser.

I just migrated from windows xp to windows ten. When I am listening to radio
programs, podcasts, etcetera, what steps do I take to turn the volume down? Do
I have to figure what player is being used and go into its settings to do this?
Hopefully, there is an easier way with a few hot key commands. When the
volume is changed, is the new setting temporary or permanent? Thanks for any
ideas. Regards: Ted Larson.

In order to use it and customize it to the way I want it I have to

Not true Here is how it works. You need wifi for the echo to talk

connectivity? If it does, you'll need to install a wireless access point
card on your computer for the Echo to work as advertised.

If it is working with your iPhone, it is connecting using WI-FI. I don't
know whether your computer comes with WI-FI built-in; the latest crop of
laptop computers in particular come with WI-FI already built-in, the service
just needs to be turned on.

Hi all,

I know that there has been lots of talk about Windows 10 over the last year
and that I absolutely have to make the change from Windows 7 before July
29th. But I didn't pay much attention to the conversation because I wasn't
going to make the change for a long time and I was perfectly happy with
Windows 7. Now something has happened to give me the not so subtle nudge, or
shove, to make the change, right now! We purchased an Echo, made by Amazon.
In order to use it and customize it to the way I want it I have to install
and use a free app that you download to your phone, in my case an iPhone,
and/or a computer. My husband put it on his Android phone and installed it
on my iPhone. He also installed it on his computer and can use it with no
problems. I am having a great deal of trouble using it on my iPhone, it is
using IOS 8.2, I believe, but I can get it to work, sort of. I still don't
know how to move around the Skills section, for example by moving freely to
the next selection or going to the next page. But the real kicker came when
I discovered that I couldn't use the app on my computer at all, because it
does not work in Windows 7! So now I must get Windows 10 this week end
because I want to use this app. The problem is that I am scared to death to
use it and have no idea how to make it do anything. Could some kind people
please tell me the best places to get reliable information about using it,
as well as a few tried and true tips and tricks to keep me from going stark

Hi Paulette,

It sounds as though you want to upgrade so that you can install the Amazon Echo
app, but you should be aware that the July deadline to upgrade Windows 10 for
free does not apply to screen reader users should you decide to hang on to
Windows 7.

You need to check which version of Window-Eyes you are running. You need
Window-Eyes 9.2 or higher in order to upgrade to and use Windows 10, 9.0 and
9.1 won't work and you won't be able to upgrade with these versions installed.

GW Micro produced a 2-part tutorial on upgrading to Windows 10. you can access
it from this Knowledge Bite
http://www.gwmicro.com/Support/Knowledge_Base/?kbnumber=GWKB2066.

As for what Windows 10 is like once you've actually installed it, a lot of
people really like it. For my part I'm agnostic really. It's fine as far as
it goes, but I wouldn't say that it had revolutionised my Windows experience.
I haven't used my Windows PC for a few weeks, but when I did, Windows 10's
default web browser (Microsoft Edge) was not accessible. This isn't
particularly a problem though, as you can use Internet Explorer or a third
party browser if required.

Cheers,

Hi Paulette

When you are first setting up your echo, you must use a wifi connected
computer or phone. A hard wired computer will not work. Any windows
computer will work as long as it is using wifi!

When you start the setup process, you first start entering information
on the echo.amazon.com website. At some point, you will be instructed
to switch to the WIFI connection coming from your echo to enter the
login information that the echo needs.

mean that Window-Eyes or another screen reader will be able to help you work

RE: Making the leap to Windows Ten!

Hi Chris,

Thanks so much for the information about updating my iPhone for the best
results from the Alexa app. You give me hope. Now I know why it doesn't work
well and I can't go to the next page easily.
Also, since my husband is a computer IT guy, I think that he will be able to
update it to Windows 10 for me. That is, when he has time. You know that old
saying about the cobbler's children, Smile. After it is installed, I will go
from there.

Hi. In my experience, going directly from Windows 7 to 10
has not yielded the best results. Lots of people have trouble when
doing the upgrade. Have no fear, though. If you're having trouble with
the Alexa app on your iPhone, you'll need to upgrade to iOS 9.3.2 which
is the latest version.

You should then be able to access most things, although admittedly
I'm having trouble accessing some of the sounds Alexa makes when asking
a question. It simply will not work no matter what screenreader I'm
using. It should be fixed in the next firmware update, though. Trust
me there are workarounds for this. I also do have to say, though that I
have a brand new Windows 10 machine here and it is running extremely
smooth indeed. sSo if you're going to get Windows 10, it is best to get
it on a brand new computer.

Could some kind people
please tell me the best places to get reliable information about using it,
as well as a few tried and true tips and tricks to keep me from going stark
raving mad? Is Cortana worth using? What do I have to do to keep Microsoft
from becoming Big Brother? I am using Internet Explorer 10 and Window Eyes
9, I think. Thanks so much in advance for your help.

Re: Making the leap to Windows Ten!

2016-05-28 Thread Edward Green via Talk

Cheers,

Ed

RE: windows ten question.

2015-11-18 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
You may need to go to the computer manufacturer and see if they have any
updated drivers for your wifi adapter.
I had a problem with a tablet where it would drop the wifi all of the time and
it turned out to be outdated drivers.
It is possible your Windows 10 installed some generic drivers for the card
bringing the issue out.

Good luck.

you do not qualify for a free upgrade.

i think if you try it will either tell you it will not upgrade or it will go

I have the same question.i hope that AI Squared can have some good
tutorials on what is new and how things now work with windows 10 and
window eyes and zoom text once most of us get our update notification to
update to windows 10. I got mine last night and I follow exactly the
instructiosn that doug had posted a week ago on how to go about the
windows 10 upgrade. I follow the instructions and the upgrade went very
smoothly. This is my first time doing a major upgrade without someone
assisting me an this was exciting to get some thing like this accomplished
on my own.

RE: Must you run window-eyes 9.2 with windows ten? Meaning, my friend wants to know if window-eyes 9.1 will work with windows ten.

2015-07-30 Thread evelyn weckerly via Talk

Hi,

When I called to order the SMASTUPGRADE (including 9.2), I spent
the extra $20 to get a COULD copy. I have more than one computer
and thought that the wisest way to go. I'm glad to know tI must
have 9.2 running when upgrading a Windows 7 machine.

Hi,

So if that's the case and you have windows 10 or you've purchased
a windows
10 machine, wineyes 9.2 doesn't come on a cd. How can you get
around this?

I don't believe it will. They will have to upgrade to 9.2
before upgrading

to Windows 10.
