[OSM-talk] South Downs Way is now a route relation
I've recently finished collecting all the different bits of the South Downs Way into a large route relation: http://www.openstreetmap.org/api/0.5/relation/5881 . I've tagged the bicyclist's route rather than the walker's route - there are at least 4 places to my knowledge where it divides (even going so far as to have separate horse, bicycle and foot sections through the Queen Elizabeth Country Park). Unfortunately I didn't get it all done before the most recent update of the cycle map, but it should appear next time 'round: http://www.gravitystorm.co.uk/osm/?zoom=10lat=6589695.19199lon=-50296.19283layers=B00 I've tagged it as per the guidelines on http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Relations/Proposed/Routes#Cycle_Routes_in_Use and http://www.gravitystorm.co.uk/shine/cycle-info/ The entire relation is tagged with the regional cycle route reference (89) and I've removed the tag from any members (this wasn't quite as simple as removing any rcn_ref or ref as that would have affected A and B roads and other RCN routes (i.e. 90)). I've also removed the South Downs Way name from a few unclassified/tertiary/higher-order highways - I considered removing it from bridleways and byways but that would be detract from the normal mapnik and osmarendered layers, at least until they display routes with names. I'm not sure how to approach the separate walker/rider sections: either collect together only the sections that differ, or make three large, almost identical relations that span the entire SDW from the perspective of walker, horse-rider and cyclist.
Bridge, Tunnel, onway, usw.)

___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/talk-fr

Please let me know if you can make it, or if you'd like to come but can't make that day. 11th March would be fine for me. I'd particularly like to get the Southampton area (plus Eastleigh and Winchester) done too so the pub meet will also cover the possibility of micro mapping events as we go into the long light evenings of April and onwards Nick Regards, Andy ___ Talk-GB mailing list Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/talk-gb
[Talk-us] Islands in Lakes/Rivers
Hi list, I've been casually working on the Minneapolis area, and one of the problems I keep running in to is how to tag islands in the Mississippi river so that they come out as land in the tiles and not more water. Take a peek at the following area: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=44.98754lon=-93.26285zoom=17layers=0BFT The view is centered on Nicollet Island, which should be rendered as a land mass, not water. The island's perimeter follows the water to the right rule and is tagged as follows: natural = coastline waterway = riverbank The surrounding river also follows the water to the right rule and is tagged as follows: natural = waterway waterway = riverbank What do I need to modify so that the island shows up correctly? Thanks, Ian ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/talk-us

[Talk-us] highway tags in the US
Hi again list, Has someone decided how the American road types should be mapped to the OpenStreetMap highway tag values? There are quite a few roads that are incorrectly marked as secondary or primary by the TIGER importer, and I'd like to make sure that I'm picking the correct highway value for the remapped strings. I have a hard time deciding which value to use based on the UK-centric descriptions on the wiki. If not, I'd be happy to go out and take some pictures of the various road types I see and put them up on the wiki somewhere so that us American OSM-ers can have something to work off of. -Ian ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/talk-us
