Unfortunately leaflet doesn't seem have permalink capabilities built
in. I think it can be done with some javascript but I haven't gotten
around to looking at that. Or I could switch to OpenLayers I guess. I
personally usually just use it in JOSM to find places that need fixing
so it hasn't been a high priority.

I try to update it daily. But it involves a little manual work so
sometimes it doesn't get done every day.

we have a similar issue for road reference numbers in Italy (or at
least in parts of Italy), where the maintenance of some national roads
passed from the country to the regions (or provinces), resulting in a
change of the official refs from (e.g.) SS7 to SR7, or in other cases
the ref was simply changed (e.g. from "GRA" to "A90" in the case of
the circular motorway around Rome (GrandeRaccordoAnnulare). This is
even documented in the English wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grande_Raccordo_Anulare ("The official
number among the Italian motorways is A90, although barely known and
not found anywhere on road signs. It's widely known by Romans as Il
Raccordo.")

As these changes have already happened (on the paper) in some cases 10
years and more ago and still the road signs show the old refs (in many
cases, not in all), we decided to change these refs back to what is
still on the signs, and to record the official reference number in a
tag "official_ref". Hereby the map consumers get the information they
need when following street signs, and the mappers don't have to dig
deep into administrative details if they don't want to (on the ground
rule).

For the Belarussian case this would mean to keep in name what is on
the signs (if they are consistent and not half new half old) and to
put the now official name in a tag "official_name".

Same issue in France excepted that the replacement of the old
reference signs is almost completed. So we decided to keep the
official reference in "ref" and keep the old one in "old_ref" even in
the few cases the "ground rule" is outdated.

And that is exactly the problem, there is inconsistency on the ground
across the whole country Crimea included. This goes up to the point
when on a single street some buildings have Russian rendering and some
have Ukrainian. Also in number of cases the street signs on the
buildings are in Russian, but all direction signs around have
Ukrainian spelling.

If you follow closely the 'on the ground rule' and put what you see to
'name' key, you will end up with mix in language in majority of the
cities. The map will be not really convenient, since primary search
values are in mix of languages.

+1, we also keep old_ref tags.

Re-checking the GRA after my email above, the official reference is
tagged as "nat_ref=A90" and not "official_ref", while ref and old_ref
are "GRA", e.g. http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/28216214
we might add a loc_name="Il Raccordo" ;-)

John, please at least have the integrity to say that this is an issue
raised on the FOSM fork forum, of which you are an active member.

On Peter Millar's (sherbourne) claim raised on the FOSM forum, I have
removed the data and remapped. Peter Millar is welcome to remove the
GPS traces (as per a LWG email to him a few weeks ago), the data
working group is also happy to do this on his behalf if notified.

OSM as an online service provider will act accordingly on copyright
takedowns. The OSMF has a register copyright agent, otherwise
copyright owners are welcome to email the OSMF's Licensing Working
Group or Data working group with specific cases.

On a personal note: I find it offensive that FOSM members continue to
use OpenStreetMap resources for FOSM mapping, while taking an
aggressive attitude against OpenStreetMap. I spent many hours of sweat
and creativity work setting up unique services like OSM's EPSG:3857
OSSV tile server, the new OS1 tile server, AGRI, Surrey Aerial Imagery
(ODbL Licensed) servers etc. It would be better if we got along.

 Grant

[OSM-talk] remapping sydney visualization

2012-08-13 Thread Ian Villeda
Hi everyone,

Here's a map I made of the remapping efforts in Sydney. The users
represented are those using Simon Poole's Task Manager [1] to remap the
area - I'm sure there other mappers who have done significant repairs but
haven't been using the task manager. Specifically, these are all the nodes
created or edited by remappers the two weeks between July26 and August 7.
The map was made with Tilemill [2] and a really long OverpassAPI call [3].
You can see how many nodes were either created or edited by each user in
this gist [4].

the map:
https://tiles.mapbox.com/villeda/map/map-m7isafy8

You can make similar visualizations following this guide [5], but I'm
particularly interested in how visualizations like this could be helpful in
motivating remapping efforts, and what we can do to make progress
visualizations like this one more better + more effective. I'm excited to
hear feedback, or where else visualizations might be useful.

Earlier today I noticed that I had a slight error in my rendering
rules. I added bridge, lanes and tunnel to the list of queried tags
but not to the rendering. So I just uploaded a new set of tiles with
fresh data (as of a couple hours ago) and the new rendering rules. So
there may be additional problem ways to check now.
