Re: [OSM-talk] Language rendering query

We could give other devnagri/other language alternatives even on that css
definition.

To temporarily test/solve my language rendering problem, I have recently ran
tilesGen xy with the tiles im interested in.
So now, New Delhi and a lot of the Nation Capital Region has a nice (Hindi)
names.
Now I wonder, would mapnik be hindi-ready this Wednesday.

[OSM-talk] Language rendering query

Hi,

I had two queries:
1) New Delhi text is not visible on low zooms (like 8) and is only seem even
after other smaller cities are shown. Please suggest how to fix it. (I had
put the same question on other thread a while back with no response. :(
2) Need to know how to show hindi translations on north indian cities when
they are rendered. I had put up a half dozen city name:hi just yesterday.
what else should be done so that mapnik/tah start rendering the translations
in the language? (Just like shown in Sri Lanka/China/etc)

Expective a response.
Thank you,

[OSM-talk] does road width/lanes matter?

Hi,

One more query I have.
On the roads that I survey, I have always found that my GPX goes away from
what the mapnik rendered.
I assume that mapnik is working on standard conventions of road width.
Here in New Delhi, we have lanes of width ~3m. Motorways have a fix 4 lanes
per direction.
Everything else (primary, secondary, territary and even trunk) is just 2
lanes for one direction, a total width of 6 metres with some exceptions like
(they don't even paint marked lanes many times).

My question is should I supply lane count and width properties to roads and
will mapnik/[EMAIL PROTECTED] paint respecting those properties?

Thanks,
Vikas

Re: [OSM-talk] My data got deleted

Please tell me your deletions in south delhi if any more. :)

Im busy perfecting the ways myself. They are not pretty, I agree.
Atleast after YOURS, i maked gosmore and verify faster.

Suggest me how to make neat parallel ways on JOSM.
I could not find a tool on it that does that like. Same trouble with
making round-about also (1091 has a new tool to make circles now).

[OSM-talk] how to map speed breakers/bumper

Hi,

Here in the streets of New Delhi and Gurgaon, we have lots of speed breakers
(or bumps - These are small, raised portions on the road to slow down a fast
vehicle, eg, passing through a living street entering a faster highway.)
Some are standard height while some are ugly and speed has to be reduced to
dead slow to prevent it hitting the vehicle.
I searched the wiki but could not find any markers for these.
How do I mark these on the roads?

[OSM-talk] My data got deleted

Hi,

I checked one of the sections that I had surveyed, mapped and uploaded two
months back.
Suddenly when I went through that street yesterday, I could not see my edits
anymore.
It was a plain single street without a one way property while I had neatly
placed both one way streets paralell and also given the right points of U
turns and traffic signals.
I wish to know who delete this data from the server or why is it gone.
Please suggest.

Thanks,

Re: [OSM-talk] Google Maps - OSM comparison

Hi all,

Im surveying Gurgaon and New Delhi. I'd like to add that Google Maps is
drawing based on satellite images of the roads. Here, we are having massive
road shiftings, fly over consturctions and new roads or deletions. The
latest google earth images are still more than a year old. While, in just 2
months, I have to resruvey the same road due to either a metro railway
diversion in place or a common wealth diversion. Google maps is certainly
stable, and for at least 95% of the city roads. While OSM is covering under
10% of the city but accuracy and POI levels are many times better than
Google Maps. I'd also like to share that we also have commercial
mapmyindia.com which has local india maps which is much better in coverage
and updations than google. yahoo maps is the worst in terms of coverage.

Regards,
Vikas

[OSM-talk] YOURS is great! ...

I had been busy mapping my area neat the capital of india past 3 months.
The next thing I needed was a good routing engine.
and finally YOURS is doing just that.

I checked my maps and discovered lots of problems in my area (like two
oneways in same direction,etc).
The edition of planet on the site is dated Nov13 which is very old.

Now I wanted to have a YOURS server on my ubuntu. so i can recompile a short
part and verify it quickly.
for that i hunted the source of YOURS everywhere but could not find any
public code.
I also downloaded and tried gosmore on my winxp (never detects a PAK file)
and even on ubuntu7 (does not draw anything).
Im so excited with YOURS that i badly need to fix my all maps so that the
engine can run good.
Please help.

Thanks.

[OSM-talk] Trail Explorer is my OSM Surveyor Toolbox

Hi all,

I have been working on a modification in Trail
Explorerto
assist OSM surveys, either on cars or cycles.
The modification hooks on the STAR key and you need to press just one
key respective to the type of point. The waypoint is saved with a text.
For the moment, I just have few amenities like Fuel, Bus stop, gate,
atm, entry, exit and traffic signal along with respective directions
(left or right).

I have been mapping my town Gurgaon and New Delhi, IN past 2 months.
