[Talk-tr] 2023 Kahramanmaraş depremleri

Merhabalar ve geçmiş olsun,

osmwiki'de
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Turkey_Earthquake_2023_in_Kahramanmaraş

sayfası açtım. Deprem ilgili bilgiler eklenirse iyi oluyor.

Yanılmıyorsam şu anda kadar kullanabilir uydu resimleri fazla yok sanırım
cünkü hava belki halen bulutlu...

Mesela https://map.openaerialmap.org/ sadece 2 resim sunuyor.

2017-07-06 Thread Roman Neumüller

Sağol Mert!

I think the translation of https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:place
into Turkish would be quite helpful for beginners. Or a subpage of
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Turkey describing the
place categorization in Turkey...

On Wed, 05 Jul 2017 04:32:36 +0300, Mert Emin Kalender
<merteminkalen...@gmail.com> wrote:

Thanks Jeff for bringing this into our attention and Roman for looking
into this. I think OSM in Turkey is still growing (rather slowly) and
needs some more attention. As Roman mentioned, there is a group on
Facebook where
people from Turkey discuss OSM, but it is rather casual and some members
do not speak English. I am an active OSM member mapping in and outside of

Turkey. I am also leading efforts to translate iD to Turkish and OSM wiki
into Turkish.

I've done a quick research on administrative unit system in Turkey. The
document that could be used to model place classification is available
here <https://www.csb.gov.tr/db/cbs/editordosya/Idari_Birim.pdf>. Turkish

administrative system is sort of messy and complicated. I think it is
important to have a discussion about place type classifications.

From
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:place#Administratively_declared_places
perspective, the following mapping sounds reasonable to me:
- place=country => ülke
- place=state => not applicable
- place=region => bölge
- place=province => il
- place=district => semt/ilçe - I think semt is a name used for "ilçe"
when
"ilçe" is part of the city center's administrative boundary. The
following

image has districts of İstanbul -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_districts_in_Turkey#/media/File:Istanbul_location_districts.svg
Semt
vs ilçe don't seem any different. But look at the districts of Eskişehir
-

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_districts_in_Turkey#/media/File:Eski%C5%9Fehir_districts.png
Tepebaşı and Odunpazarı forms the city Eskişehir (marked with black
border). These "semt"s are combined together under "büyükşehir
belediyesi".

Look at Afyonkarahisar -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_districts_in_Turkey#/media/File:Afyonkarahisar_districts.png
In this case city center only has one "semt/ilçe", which is
"Afyonkarahisar

merkezi". They are referred as "merkez ilçe".
- place=county => I don't think this type really applies to Turkey.
- place=municipality => This could be another source of confusion. We've
had recent updates to town smaller than "ilçe", but bigger than "köy".
This

type could be mapped to "belde" I think.

Regarding
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:place#Populated_settlements.2C_urban
- place=city => il, şehir, even bigger metropolitan cities are could be
mapped to this type.
- place=borough => I don't think this is really applicable.
- place=suburb => Again this could be used for "'ilçe" and "semt".
- place=quarter => Similar to borough, I don't think this is really
applicable.
- place=neighbourhood => This is mahalle. Within "semt/ilçe" we have
neighbourhoods.
- place=city_block => Doesn't really apply to Turkey.

Looking at
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:place#Populated_settlements.2C_urban_and_rural
I can easily tell that Turkish place/administrative unit system doesn't
really fit into here. Let's look at Afyonkarahisar district map again -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_districts_in_Turkey#/media/File:Afyonkarahisar_districts.png
I am from Emirdağ. It could be referred as town and district as well. My
town has neighborhoods just like districts have. The municipality system
is

same as districts. So I think we can classify them as town and also
district.
- place=town => ilçe, but rural ilçe. "Belde"s are towns that belong to
another town, but bigger than a village.
- place=village => köy (doesn't have municipality, but rather part of a
ilçe, just like belde)
- place=hamlet => mezra/mahalle (be aware the use of mahalle here)
- place=isolated_dwelling => could be mezra/mahalle I think.

2017-07-04 Thread Roman Neumüller

Hi Jeff,

I've been mapping a lot in Turkey but can only tell for sure that

* il = province (admin_level=4)
* ilçe = town = district = district center (admin_level=6)
* köy = village (admin_level=8)

Concerning suburb/neighborhood (mahalle/semt) I'm still unsure and up to
now

didn't get ANY response from the Turkish community regarding classification
(see
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-tr/2014-November/000362.html)

The community is not very active in the mailinglist - they may be more
active in

a facebook group (I don't use fb)

  https://www.facebook.com/OpenStreetMapTurkey/

Semt seems as if only being used in big cities - wikipedia calls them
"quarters":

* https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategori:Türkiye'deki_semtler
* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Quarters_in_Turkey

Even villages may have 1) suburbs which I give the neighborhood tag and 2)
"mezra"s

where I use hamlet.

Yayla vary from location (no house at all) over hamlet (some houses) to
suburb/village

(if big like a village)

Wikipedia says yayla = Plateau - in German I'd rather call them "Alm".

Bucak is sort of deprecated
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucak_(administrative_unit))

Another thing is that most villages in metropolitan municipalities have
been converted

to suburbs (6360 Metropolıtan Law) after 2012

Hi OSMers,

I'm trying to understand the placename classifications in Istanbul and
how those relate to OSM tags, and hoping someone can help. In Istanbul
there
are ilçe (districts) and mahalle (neighborhoods). But then there are
also semtler - what is the difference between mahalle and semtler?

Also I'm wondering about how to tag places. From the OSM wiki it seems
that districts should be place=suburb and mahalle should be
place=neighborhood, but on the map the districts are usually place=town
and mahalle/semtleri are either place=suburb or place=neighborhood. Is
there

any reason for tagging ilçe as place=town?

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to formalize the tags?

Cheers,
Jeff

Re: [Talk-tr] Yaylalar nasıl etiketlenir?

2015-08-29 Thread Roman Neumüller

Merhaba Özgür,

Ben yaylaları bu şeklinde etiket veriyorum:

name=yayla
place=hamlet
turkey_class=yayla

turkey_class özel oluşturdum cünkü Türkiye'ye ait birkaç özel
yerleşim birimleri var; (diğer iki ise turkey_class=belde ve mezra)
Türkiye'de ki turkey_class=yayla durumu bu linkte görünür:

  http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/baT

Toprak yolları gelince bende çoğu zaman highway=track kullanıyorum;
4 tekerlekli araç geçemezse highway=path.

Yürüyüşçüler sac_scale etiketi kullanarak daha ayrıntılı bilgi veriyor -
o
konuda vikide bilgi bulunur:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:sac_scale

Bisikletciler ise mtb:scale kullanarak daha ayrıntılı bilgi veriyor:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:mtb:scale

(o iki sayfanın türkçesi henüz yok - her zaman gibi!)

Yaylaları gösteren ayrıntılı haritalar yok gibi Türkiye'de!

Kolay gelsin ve iyi geziler!
;)

[OSM-talk] gpsbabel and osm (.osm.cc file)

2014-06-08 Thread Roman Neumüller

Hi folks,

Recently I noticed that gpsbabel still uses version='0.5' string in its
osm.cc (1).
Latest josm for example complains now when it does not find version='0.6'
string.

I told gpsbabel about it in their mailing list (2).
Today I got a reply (3):

We don't really use the OSM API; we just read and write OSM XML files.
The doc you cite doesn't appear to be relevant to our use.

If 0.5 and 0.6 are different in some incompatible way, we need
informationon what to change, sample files, etc. I don't think we
haveany active OSMusers on our lists, so if you're interested in making
this
better, you can advance things. If it's been broken since 2009 and you're
the first to notice, we should probably drop it as it's received only
mechanical changes since 2008. The first step will be to identify the
needed changes.
If you're ready to tackle it, the OSM code is a little grubby, but you
can see it at

https://code.google.com/p/gpsbabel/source/browse/trunk/gpsbabel/osm.cc

I wrote back

Well, all programs using .osm files understand version='0.6' now but
some programs (like well-known josm) complain now when trying to
open a file with version='0.5' string.

and reply on that

I just committed the change, but I've A) marked OSM for deprecationsince
you're apparently the only one that's used it in five yeras andB) find
gratuitous, pointlessly incompatible changes silly.

I use gpsbabel not very often and don't know about other osm users but
there might be some .cc developpers which might want to check their code
(1).

caddenin

parçaları eklenecek.

Does anyone encounter errors loading Yahoo-Images in Potlatch?

More and more often some tiles take longer to load and endup in the

Here is a link to a screen-shoot: http://yfrog.com/4vpotlatchj
This image stays, even if I change the browser or my IP-Address.
It also happens when I use maps.yahoo.com
(http://de.maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=hlat=39.113862lon=-94.713653zoom=21).
Can anybody confirm, or is it just my computer?

Hi Roman, I cannot say ok since trails in wikiloc are creations of each
user
and I think it wouldn't be fair to reproduce and mix them externally
without
showing explicit attribution on OSM maps.

I've been thinking hard in how this could be done properly and a
possibility
would be to let wikiloc users to set the privacy of each trail as
private,
public in wikiloc, transferable to OSM etc.. and perhaps even create an
API that OSM could fetch all transferable to OSM trails automatically.
I'm
overwhelmed with pending features at this moment but that could definitely
be considered in the future.

I hope this doesn't affect your work and hope this discussion could end up
in a broader collaboration in the future

  Hi Roman,

 Sorry for being so slow in writing back to you on this. I've been
 discussing the situation and it'd be compatible with wikiloc terms
 only if
 the trails from Wikiloc shown on OSM make explicitly visible the 3
 attributions (
 wikiloc.com, trail page and author's page) to users of OSM. We worked
 hard in the agreement with Google Earth to respect this attribution
 requirement and you can see it if you open one of Wikiloc trails on
 Google
 Earth (you'll see clearly that the source is Wikiloc (logo, link),
 the trail
 page and the trail author's page).

 Hope it helps

 Jordi

 I [...] let you know that I added OSM as a base layer
 last Thursday. You can switch from Google Maps to OSM by clicking
 at More Maps button when visualizing a track in wikiloc.
 Nice :)

 Please if you use some of the GPS tracks in wikiloc to map on OSM
 include a visible attribution as specified in the terms of use of
 wikiloc:

 Attribution: When content from Wikiloc is displayed on an external
 site it must include the Wikiloc's logo or name linked to
 http://www.wikiloc.com, a link to the track page (e.g.
 http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=46602)
 and the track author's name linked to his/her personal area at
 wikiloc.com(e.g. 'by –Ross' linked to
 http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/user.do?name=--Ross)

 There's no requirement to be links without the rel='nofollow' as
 long as the source is clear.

 when working with ways we use tags like

highway=primary;
ref=D-400
name=Antalya-Mersin Yolu
source=GPS | Yahoo | landsat | survey

 We can freely use other tags like

source_url=http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=46602

 Would that be applicable?

 Many of the coastlines in OSM came from an import of the PGS coastline
 data. It was a fantastic benefit to be able to add this coastline
 data to OSM, and we're better off having had it. And there are many
 places that have aerial imagery that is now good enough to improve on
 PGS coastlines. So that is the project of the week for 28 March,
 2010, check your favorite bit of coastline and improve what you can
 with overhead imagery.
 Those without a favorite bit of unimproved coastline might take a look

I suggest searching the db for

   waterway=coastline AND (note=*rough* OR fixme=*rough*)

- for example coastlines of Indonesia and Vietnam are *really* rough!

 Thanks.
 Is there a way to put Refugee=Yes and Source=Google, 2010-01-17 as
 values in the backend?
 If someone could enter those into the backend, it would go much faster.
 I know about the r key, but that only works, after OSM's been
 loaded, and one's been created.
 But with a workflow where you're loading OSM anew each time, it doesn't
 work.
 Really a bottleneck to have to enter these each time.

Create a camp ONCE with those tags:

  source=Google, 2010-01-17
  tourism=camp_site
  refugee=yes

the press CTRL+SHIFT+[selct-a-number-from-1-9]

At other campsites you then can select the are and press

  SHIFT+[select-the-number-from-1-9-chosen-above]

to set the tags there

 No problem for zoomlevel 9 though (2)...

 The part which renders on zoom level 8 has natural=water
 waterway=riverbank [1]

 The part which does not render has just waterway=riverbank [2]

 The osm.xml style rules only render riverbank up to a scale of 2
 million:

 Rule
   Filter[waterway] = 'dock' or [landuse] = 'reservoir' or
 [landuse] = 'water' or [waterway] = 'mill_pond' or [waterway] =
 'riverbank' or [waterway]='canal'/Filter
   MaxScaleDenominator200/MaxScaleDenominator
   PolygonSymbolizer
 CssParameter name=fill#b5d0d0/CssParameter
  /PolygonSymbolizer
 /Rule

 This means that they only appear at zoom = 9.

 The natural=water renders to a scale of 10M which is zoom = 6.

 Hi,
 Great idea,
 What im working on (for Across Canada). Is actually going ahead and
 filling
 in those amenities that the typical town-visitor would like to see
 (myself). So I will be able to, probably using KOSMOS, create a nice
 map
 of the town, then just donate the map to the tourist office. And they
 can
 make copies of it.

 What i would then do is ask the people at the tourist office, for when
 they
 actually draw on the map, and indicate things which are not listed, to
 make
 a 'working-copy', so then i can go back to the tourist office at a later
 date, and show them (in person) how to edit the map. And make a new
 version, and print it off. (Considering we know that most of the time
 there are LOTS of things missing on other tourist maps.) :-)

 Alot of the tourist offices i have been to offer a computer with internet
 access todo local searches and email. (sometimes for a fee), and some
 have
 wi-fi.  since i use a mini-notebook, it's easy to show people on-the-fly.

 ... at least thats what i plan on doing, once this Canada Import is well
 underway. .. Probably for next year.

 Have fun,
 Cheers,

Greetings, many thanks for your message. As far as we are concerned, we
consider all of the Ramsar site data and products, including those that
Wetlands International prepares for us, to be in the public domain. We
only ask that the use of any data should be dated so that users can judge
the currency and accuracy.

Best regards, Dwight Peck.

Hello,

I contacted Stephan Flink from wetlands.org to ask if openstreetmap.org
could make use of their shapefiles of Ramsar sites under Creative Commons

Secretariat to confirm that there are no restriction to use this data (see

Please let me know if there are any legal restrictions in using the data.

Dear Roman,

I'm not aware of any legal restrictions to display the shapefiles in OSM
other than the following ToU
(http://ramsar.wetlands.org/Home/tabid/719/ctl/Terms/Default.aspx). As
Wetlands International is the caretaker of all Ramsar Site information and
the ownership of the data lies with the Ramsar Secretariat in Switzerland
(ram...@ramsar.orgmailto:ram...@ramsar.org), I suggest contacting the
Secretariat to ensure that this is indeed the case.

Best wishes,

I see that I can download shapefiles of Ramsar sites from wetlands.org.
Are there any legal restrictions for conversion and usage of these

 I don't know whether I have missed something, or else am just

 Two new and different renders of an area in about 30 minutes.

 Now the renderer is sucking up to the cartographers?

 It's really old news, that tile.openstreetmap.org is using the

 Wow, such a crazyness...
 I tried to log a flight with my GPS-enabled cellphone (a Nokia N95), but

 No, it doesn't. GPX tracks stay where they are forever and continue

 Hello,
 Over the last few months, I've been in contact with FAO's Africover
 program: http://www.africover.org/ . Africover maintains shapefiles
 containing rivers, roads, towns, and admin boundaries for a number of
 countries that we would like add to the OSM dataset. While they
 normally do not release data under an OSM-acceptable license, they have
 granted us permission to add their data to Open Street Map.
 Over the next few weeks, we will be working on importing data for
 Tanzania, DR Congo, Uganda, and Rwanda. We'll be working slowly in
 order to ensure accuracy and integrity of the OSM dataset. Please feel
 free to get in touch if you are interested in learning more about our
 progress, but we will also be posting status reports on the project wiki
 pages.
 Africover also maintains datasets for
 Burundi, Egypt, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan. We may work on
 these over the longer-term, and would be happy to collaborate with other
 folks on this.
 Cheers,

[OSM-talk] form input field for GPS Traces

2009-03-03 Thread Roman Neumüller
I recommend to add a form input field for GPS Traces where a user can
easily search for a tag, let's say GPS tracks for Paris.
You can easily upload your tracks but you cannot easily search. I know that
I can of course type a tag into the browser's address field like

   http://www.openstreetmap.org/traces/tag/Paris

But a normal user may not know it. And: if I write it wrongly like

   http://www.openstreetmap.org/traces/tag/Pariss

or

   http://www.openstreetmap.org/traces/Paris

I get:

   Application error

   Change this error message for exceptions thrown outside of an action

I noticed the same issue on South America's eastcoast and large river

I think there's no easy solution because the color of mangrove forests and
the sea
are too near to one another...
Using josm's lakewalker to trace sea/island there' s a
maximum gray value to count as water one can play with...

Roman

 In West Africa, I have noticed that mangrove forests are often tagged as
 sea
 by PGS. Some examples are found at:

 Does anyoe have any idea on how to solve this without having to do manual
 tracing for large parts of the coastline and riverbanks?

[OSM-talk] data inconsistence?

2009-01-22 Thread Roman Neumüller
For half an hour now I try to get another result but no: different data in
two
editors!

Please open
http://www.openstreetmap.org/edit?lat=-23.31738lon=-46.58105zoom=16
in both editors: potlatch and JOSM.

See the motorway near the river/canal? The north-bound motorway
changed to a straight line in JOSM (looking like this strange
potlatch error which sometimes happens) but not in potlatch!
There the ways go parallel!

And be sure I've both closed browser and josm and changed browsers -

[OSM-talk] namefinder problems

I just wonder what the problems with the namefinder are.
Isn't it only ruby querying a database?
It should not make that much problems as it should only return some text

Is it gazetteer.openstreetmap.org which has sometimes problems?

Another thing is that query results of both gazeteer *and* geonames should
be
shown asynchron - I mean results should not have to wait for each other but
rather show up independent from each other so that which ever comes first
can be already listed in the Search Results bar.

[OSM-talk] caching of landsat/yahoo images

2008-12-17 Thread Roman Neumüller
The JOSM plugin lakewalker has the IMHO very nice feature to cache the
landsat
tiles it uses for walking a lake into its own folders. I just wonder if
that
feature couldn't get extended to generally cache landsat images into a
folder !?

If you live in a region were there is no Hires-data available at all you
*solely*
have potlatch's flash/yahoo data or josm's landsat data to rely on. But
you have
to download the image data over-and-over again whenever you are in the
same region.

And: the same idea might apply for potlatch's flash/yahoo image data!
Wouldn't it be nice to have already downloaded images cached ?!?

[OSM-talk] [tagging] Feature Proposal - RFC - Propo sed features/lakeshore‎

2008-10-09 Thread Roman Neumüller
This is a proposal to be able to distinguish big lakes and reservoirs on
one hand from small lakes (natural=water) and sea (natural=coastline) on
the other.

There is a need to make the rendering of big lakes and reservoirs with
more than 500 nodes distinguishable from small lakes (with less than 500
nodes) and seas. Especially if working with [[JOSM]]'s [[Lakewalker]] to
create the outline of a big lake one has to choose
{{Tag|natural|coastline}} - otherwise one would have to create a
{{Tag|natural|water}} with say 20.000 nodes, (which makes loading in
either JOSM or potlatch very slow) - or one has to manually split the
20.000-node-lake into water-subparts which is not a very nice solution.
Coastline should be only applied to seas.
