[OSM-talk] 0.6 move and downtime (re-scheduled)

2009-03-12 Thread Grant Slater
Dear all

The API downtime scheduled for the 0.6 API transition has been postponed
due to delays acquiring the new database server.

The re-scheduled API downtime for the 0.6 API upgrade is now the weekend
of the 17-20th April 2009.

On a related note (note sure about the best way to announce this), there
will be an interruption in the the osmosis daily/hourly/minute
changesets during this time. I'll start them again when the db comes
online again after the migration and they'll be in 0.6 format. It will
be necessary to download a new planet and resync again.

Shaun, that's fine, but I can only do 21/22 in March so you guys would be on
your own to set up and I'd need to find somewhere else to focus on for the
21/22nd.

Cheers

Andy

I've blocked out one for that weekend, but it's my birthday anyway, so
perhaps I should stay home and have a quiet birthday party? I'm
thinking so.

We're currently looking to postpone the Luton Mapping Party by a week.

The March mapping party is expected to be Luton, but I'm sure we can
manage without API access.

IMHO it's a good idea to post these dates in the event calender. With some
emphasis.

To make things a little clearer, we are actually blocking out four days
for this, from 20th to 23rd March. So don't count on being able to
upload anything during that period.

There is only one mapping party listed for that weekend on the wiki, and
it doesn't have any details yet, which is part of the reason why that
date was chosen as it will hopefully minimise the disruption caused.

[OSM-talk] 0.6 move and downtime

2009-01-19 Thread SteveC
Dear all

We had a review call today on the technical side of OSM and one of the
things that came up was the transition to API 0.6

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Protocol_Version_0.6

API 0.6 is the latest and greatest in OSM APIs and brings scrummy
goodness like changesets. You can read more at the wiki page. A lot of
work has gone in to it from a number of people.

The downside is that there needs to be some database downtime while
the change happens. This means a period of time without login, editing
and so on. The slippy map will of course still work.

We have agreed a date of 21/22 March. During this time, and possibly
for a little while after, you won't be able to log in or edit while
things are upgraded.

Technical questions on this should be thrown at Matt Amos and TomH.

So, apologies, but hopefully this is enough advance warning for you to
avoid activities around that time. From there OSM will be stronger,
better, faster, longer and higher than before.

Best

Steve
