Re: [OSM-talk] CLEANMAP global version

2012-01-18 Thread Simon Poole

I've added some further functionality to CLEANMAP that hopefully makes
it a bit more useful:

- View the current map in the OSMI Licence Status view
- Edit in P2 or JOSM
- Pressing the shift key and selecting an area with the mouse will
produce some non-ODBL object creation statistics for the selected region

Please note that the statistics function only supports small bounding
boxes and is not intended for large scale use.

The map can be found here http://cleanmap.poole.ch/ , please take into

Further I've just ran the weekly update for the statistics on

this doesn't have any legal meaning, it is nonetheless a significant

It doesn't change the geometry of objects, but individual tagged nodes
-are- hidden. The US is a special case as you say.

For more detailed information, I would naturally use the OSMI inspector
licence view, or the Garmin map overlays (on the road).

Oh dear, Sydney and Adelaide are goners.
However your CleanMap shows that there is a lot of hope for both
although there is still a massive amount of work to be done.

Since Cleanmap doesn't include any nodes that will be lost, it's more
like looking through way-colored glasses. It also doesn't show any
intermediate edits, which GREATLY minimizes the effect in areas like
the U.S. where most roads started out as imports.

Despite this, you can still see major damage in some areas, such as
South Carolina, where a "bad" mapper split ways to create bridges:

http://cleanmap.poole.ch/?zoom=9&lat=33.921&lon=-81.014
Note all the gaps in the Interstates (motorways).

There are many more Interstates that will apparently revert to
single-carriageway: http://cleanmap.poole.ch/?zoom=7&lat=38.518&lon=-86.5

And damn, look at Los Angeles:
http://cleanmap.poole.ch/?zoom=13&lat=34.0693&lon=-118.2227

Thanks Simon, this is a fabulous tool.

So although I will still be using OSMI on my
"hunt and destroy" missions, you map will definitely keep my
spirits up as I/We patch back together our map, and also
give me good ideas as to where to best concentrate my effotrs.

So, many thanks and I vote that OSM-F loans you a BIG-FAST machine
because yours is going to get hammered for the next 2 months.

Naturally not, just please take this in to consideration: "...please

Also: is there a way to remove the flash effect when switching layers in
Leaflet? It makes it slightly harder for my visual cortex to spot changes.

There are a number of issues due to limitations in the current Leaflet
implementation, most of them are on my ToDo list.
