[OSM-talk] New Potlatch feature to aid remapping

2012-07-29 Thread Richard Fairhurst

Hi all,

I've added a small feature to Potlatch 2 which should be generally
useful but will particularly help in remapping.

When you've selected a way, you can now add intermediate points just by
shift-clicking a blank area. P2 will work out where to put the node in
the way, and do it. Exactly like shift-clicking the way to insert a node
then dragging it, but quicker. (It's a bit like JOSM's
ImproveWayAccuracy feature, I think.)

You can also incorporate existing nodes by shift-clicking them. This is
useful for those times when a bunch of orphan nodes are hanging around,
but the way itself has been straightened.

cheers
Richard

Re: [OSM-talk] New Potlatch

2008-09-26 Thread Ulf Mehlig
Hello Richard,

many thanks for providing potlatch. I've a question regarding the
translation of potlatch messages. According to

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Template:Potlatch/Translation

translated messages should be integrated automatically when a new
version appears. However, when I start (on Linux), say, firefox under a
Brazilian Portuguese locale by

LC_ALL=pt_BR.UTF-8 firefox

the program itself uses Brazilian Portuguese messages but Potlatch does
not, in spite of

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Pt-br:Potlatch/Translation

being available for some time now. Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help!
Ulf

 Changes include:

 - little floating alerts that go beep!
 - locked nodes (typically after importing a GPX with waypoints) show

 - performance improvements
 - some smashing new secret keypresses because Potlatch doesn't have
 enough:
K to lock/unlock a way or node
M to maximise/minimise the SWF window
S to add a source= tag based on the current background (Yahoo/
 NPE)
 - duplicate node bug fixed (see talk passim)
 - and various other bugfixes

Flash seems to pick up the language from the LANG environment.
So:
  LANG=lolcat.UTF-8 firefox

works just fine for me.

The other problem seems to be that potlatch is expecting a direct
match on pt-br, and it doesn't understand pt_BR
So:
  LANG=pt-br.UTF-8 firefox

works for potlatch, but obviously not for firefox.

This can be part fixed by changing the name of the wiki page to use an
underscore, but the script that pulls them in [1] needs fixing too as
it normalises the languages to lowercase, which for regional
variations is wrong.

Ah - I think I see what's happening. system.capabilities.language in
ActionScript expects pt-BR, but it's being fetched from the wiki as
pt-br (lower case), possibly due to Mediawiki's strange
capitalisation rules. I'll adapt the localisation script and let you
know if it works. Sorry for the hassle.

Couldn't you do something where the same letter has a completely

shift? Or whatever you Apple people call them.

 Potlatch automatically makes an intersection.

Is this 'feature' able to be turned off? Otherwise I would consider it a
bug as it means that you can't do bridges over other ways.

Bridges are normally done as a short section of way rather than a node at
the intersection.

Heh, you can't please all the people all the time - the
easier-to-click ways/nodes were a feature request from a user too. I
guess it depends whether you use Yahoo or not.

I've now added a preference so that you can turn them off. It's in the
usual place in the options dialogue (the 'tick' at the bottom).

Will post more on the new Potlatch later.

[OSM-talk] New Potlatch

2008-05-01 Thread Richard Fairhurst
0.8c is one of those little things that mean a lot updates:

- When you add a point into a way where it crosses another way,
Potlatch automatically makes an intersection.
- Points and ways are now bigger at high zoom levels for those people
without superhuman fine motor skills. (But you can turn this off using
a new preference.)
- Double-clicking to end a line doesn't restart the line if you've
already clicked.
- Click/drag detection is much improved.

And in some related news, the Gnash (GNU Flash Player) devs - in
particular Sandro 'strk' Santilli - are doing really well in improving
Gnash to work with Potlatch. strk has even become an OSM mapper which
can't be bad. :) It's going to be interesting to see how Adobe's
removal of licensing restrictions on SWF, just announced, benefits
Gnash.

Will post more on Potlatch in a minute.

cheers
