Me too. I bought my GPS receiver for Geocaching, but I also love maps
and quickly realised that the only good maps for my Garmin were based on
OSM. Nowadays OSM has become much more important than Geocaching for
me, though. I try to only go caching in places that could do with some
mapping.

It looks like they are still using Google by default in the big map,
though. I kept meaning to make a post in the forum to try to convince
them to switch to OSM by default. OSM is often better and contains
things that are actually useful for cachers like footpaths. I'm sure
many of them like maps and would become OSMers like me.

Me too! - a fellow cacher told me about OSM and, of course, the cunning
devil
made sure he hadn't mapped my street.

So of course I mapped it, then the neighbourhood, then the town, the
neighbouring,
city, as much of the state as I could and so on...

I'm sure that if the Google (non sales) people are clever, and I know that
they are,
they would ditch there own map data NOW, replace it with OSM data and then
build as much added value on top of it that they can (before someone else
does).

On that note. Because Bingmaps are so much more slippy than Googlemaps,
and because they use (ahem) so much better map data, I only now use
googlemaps to get to Google streetview. Is there an easy way to
get to a Google street view by clicking on a Bingmap???

That's exactly how I ended up here. I heard about OSM on a geocaching podcast
back in 2008.

Geocachers are gps-savvy adventurists who love contributing their knowledge of
places and routes, many are map geeks by nature, so OSM is a perfect complement
to their hobby.

OSM input by expert cachers = better maps on geocaching.com, a symbiotic
relationship.

Likewise, any OSMers who haven't heard of geocaching may want to give it a go
and add a bit of fun to their mapping expeditions.
