Thanks for the answers Mateusz Konieczny.

amenity=vending_machine
vending=water

I agree with the above tags for water atm's.

[Talk-in] Mapping Water ATM's

2020-11-16 Diskussionsfäden Chetan H A
Hello all,

In Bengaluru we have public Water ATM's (Water vending machines) across the
city since 2015. These are not mapped in OSM and are widely used by people
for drinking purposes. I have tagged one such in RPC layout
, Vijayanagar. For
more information please read this article

.

OSM tag used:

   - amenity=water_point

There are few *amenity=drinking_water *
in OSM but it would be good if we map all water_points across the city.

Let me know any suggestions on mapping these in the city. Also, I am not
sure of Water ATM's in the other cities as well.

Chetan

Jinal and Arun, Thanks for putting it together as a task. There is a
interesting blog written by Christoph Hormann back in 2013 on the state of
glacier mapping in OSM: http://www.imagico.de/map/osm_glaciers_en.php

Re: [Talk-in] India Coastline Improvement

2018-04-05 Diskussionsfäden Chetan H A
Hi Deepak,

In some places the coastline is drawn very roughly or inaccurately so I
plan to adjust it so it matches updated imagery better. I am going to look
at a few different imagery sources like Bing, Digital Globe Premium and
Standard, ESRI and Mapbox. If you wanted to look at the coastline near
where you live or somewhere you are familiar with, that would be super.
Make sure to read the guidelines at https://wiki.openstreetmap.
org/wiki/Coastline as well.

Best regards,
Chetan

[Talk-in] Mapillary Complete the Map Challenge

Hi everyone,

Mapillary has setup #CompletetheMap challenge for the 4 important
neighbourhoods of Bengaluru.

1. Koramanagla

2. Vijayanagar

3. Cox Town and

4. Indiranagar

I'm inviting everyone from the OSM/Mapillary India community to participate
and contribute towards street level photos of the city and the top
contributors will get Mapillary goodies like T shirt or bicycle mount.

To know where all to cover the streets click this link below and zoom in
the map;

https://mapillary.github.io/mapillary_greenhouse/challenge/bengaluru/

This challenge help us to capture as much imagery in a given area as
possible. A grid is chosen and participants compete to win zones by
contributing the most imagery.

Hi
This is great initiative in mapping the villages. Thanks for it @Nikhil.
Also if you are mapping in Pune (only city), try to use ESRI imagery
(better than Bing/Mapbox Satellite and others). This is available both in
iD and JOSM editors.

@Shibu Narayan, using street level photos is nothing but using Mapillary (
http://mapillary.com/), a crowd sourced street photo project where you can
use it for mapping. I will be showing it on how to use it. :)

Srihari,

That's truly makes sense. Short names will make search quicker, you have
already covered most of them. Only RBI is missing from the list!

Hi Srihari,

Thanks for knocking out most of the bank names. The bank names explicitely
says as "SBI ATM", we can easily change them too. I feel these are edits
from most of locals from their local knowledge. Only few left in the
spreadsheet (around 70 of them). Let us know the thoughts of the community
on this, but I prefer to change all those to SBI.

This is really nice tool to link Wikidata ID's to OSM features. I tested it

Re: [Talk-in] Mapping PDS shops

2017-05-24 Diskussionsfäden Chetan H A
Hi Srravya,

Yes, Ration shops spread across India. We can easily map these shops using
these combination of OpenStreetMap tags.

1. "building = yes" and operator:type = * (
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:operator:type)
2. shop = convenience would be better as I feel.

Best,

[Talk-in] Change of merged bank names in OpenStreetMap

2017-04-11 Diskussionsfäden Chetan H A
Hi all,

Recently *State Bank of India* merged five other State Banks, namely

 1. State Bank of Mysore
 2. State Bank of Hyderabad
 3. State Bank of Patiala
 4. State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur
 5. State Bank of Travancore

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/five-associate-banks-to-merge-with-sbi-from-april-1/articleshow/57314900.cms

In OpenStreetMap, we should rename all the above bank and ATM names to
State Bank of India. I ran overpass http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/oiH to check
SBM occurrences, there are about 141+ ATMs and bank mapped.

My question is how we can rename these collectively? else manually we have
to map one by one.

I did some experiments with doing attempting something similiar:

 and documented here:

The process for ^ now is much simpler thanks to some improvements in
the Mapbox GL libraries, the only big blocker is that GL still does not
support complex text shaping which breaks the proper rendering of Indic
 languages https://github.com/osm-in/openstreetmap.in/issues/

Re: [Talk-in] Multilingual name tagging convention in India

I totally agree to follow current convention we have now. Multilingual
names can't be supported in India. We have 22 official languages in India
and If every language names were added with English names will clutter the
map. It's good to add separately using " name:lang=* " tag.

[Talk-in] Simple 3D buildings

2015-08-27 Diskussionsfäden Chetan H A
Hey guys,
Ever wondered about making 3D buildings using
OpenStreetMap? Here are a few 3D buildings in OSM rendered beautifully in F4
Map http://demo.f4map.com/#camera.theta=0.9.

Mysore University - Crawford Hall

Currently, F4 application seems to be having a rendering issue. Hence
attached the screenshots here.

[Talk-in] Tirumala Printed Map

2015-08-17 Diskussionsfäden Chetan H A
Hi OSM enthusiast's,

As I had a long weekend, decided to visit Tirumala for the
first time. On 14th August, customised the OSM Tirumala data with
Mapbox Studio and left Bengaluru in the evening with printed A3 size map
which costed me JUST Rs. 32 at Printo shop. I was thinking to paste the map
somewhere in Tirumala's landmarks.

On Saturday afternoon, while returning back to Bengaluru took some time to
eat at small restaurant. I approached the owner of the hotel to paste this
map in front of his hotel. He took it seriously and said in Telugu Thank
you, sir. This is wonderful Idea, please write your address, I will post
the photo after pasting it..

My belief is that common people should have an idea about how maps play a
very important role in their day to day life. And yes!! OSM is always
powerful to reach them.

This is a interesting place and called as *Jain Kashi* by people around
there. Let's do the mapping of this most sacred place. As I too posses
little local knowledge of *Shravanabelagola*.

Thank you,
Chetan

I used to be there in Belagola(locally called) every year during college
days and have some local knowledge of the place. Lets do this.

Interestingly, Hassan district website has various maps(about 45 including
special thematic maps) prepared by NRDMS Center which we don't usually see
 in other district websites.

Planning on making a tourist map of Shravanabelagola this weekend. If
anyone has personal knowledge of the place, it would be great if you can
 add/correct info to the map.
