Re: [talk-au] tagging burnt areas
It'd be like trying to tag plots in landuse=forest as felled or mature. While it'd be interesting it would quickly become unreliable and reduce the quality of data. So while I would love to have burnt areas mapped in OSM I just think it's not worth trying. No I don't think CC license would be sufficed, it seems it has to be Public Domain or explicitly granted such as this license from Mapbox: https://www.mapbox.com/tos/#[YmtIyw] Nathanael Coyne (Boehm) www.purecaffeine.com Canberra, Australia 0431 698 580 On 22 October 2015 at 18:07, Adam Horan <aho...@gmail.com> wrote: > Hi, > > Those are the terms in the generic DSE_Data_Access_Licence.pdf document > that is included in the download. > > But the initial download page linked mentions no licenses other than the > CC BY 3.0 AU. > > It's a bit of a puzzle. Re: [talk-au] NSW NP tracks closed during total fire ban days
I'm not fond of the key value there, it's too likely to be entered wrong, introduce discrepancies if used elsewhere. I'd prefer an abbreviated value and leave the translation up to the client. It is however very clear. [talk-au] Average speed limit cameras
Can someone please check my work? http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/5510636 There's an average speed limit section in Canberra near Woden too but no one has added that to the map yet so I couldn't copy. Any other examples I could refer to? Unfortunately I've had to use "maxspeed" as the enforcement type even though you could do 200 km/h while in the enforcement area and then pull over and wait for 10 minutes and not get booked. It appears you shouldn't include the highway way in the relation just the nodes so I've created the two camera devices and attached them to nodes of the highway using a relation and the roles to, from and device. For interest, the average speed enforcement section of the Federal Highway is 19.13 km long. Re: [talk-au] National Park unclosed poly, want advice
Thanks Paul, I'll see if that's an option, especially as it's not a named forest. Now I've also got this situation where the much larger but very low fidelity forest poly is conflicting with my new high-fidelity poly for the actual Murramarang National Park https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/-35.6942/150.2560 I don't know whether to clean up the edge of the larger forest poly to use the same coastline nodes as my national park poly because there's also the issue that the national park probably can't be considered a subset of the forest poly as there are non-forest regions within the national park! One is to end up splitting on an arbitrary line. While this fixes the problems, it's not ideal. A better route is to find an appropriate break in the trees. Typically along roads, rivers, power lines, and oil and gas lines there is a break in the trees. I try to find one and trace this break. This also tends to find clearings ( https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=15/-35.8707/149.9854), unmapped roads branching off, and other features of interest. Don't feel you need to be perfect, particularly in a case like this where the original tracing is from landsat. ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au
[talk-au] National Park unclosed poly, want advice
Hi all, I've been doing a bit of coastal mapping and keep butting into this unclosed poly that's annoying me ... so I'd like to have a go at fixing it up, unless JOSM is just rendering it wrong because it's a multipart poly and I'm not downloading all the data it needs to close it? Thanks Alex, looks like I'll have to investigate Overpass API, but in the meantime I just pulled the XML for the relation and then used Download Members in JOSM. Will just keep it handy for when I'm working on coast areas and don't want that ugly unclosed poly line slashing through the middle of my work. Re: [talk-au] Route number for Cross City Tunnel, Sydney
I can't make sense of it either … https://maps.six.nsw.gov.au should be the authoritative source in this instance but it just doesn't describe underground ways very well or at all in many cases. If you do modify the way can you please reference the source URL so if others want to contest it, change it again then we can dispute the credibility of the source rather than overwriting back and forth.
