Re: [talk-au] Our own satellite imagery?

You would generally need several passes or more just to account for clouds obscuring the ground, before you even get to trying to turn low res into high res. I'm not sure how much use weather sats would be, since they are at higher orbits (36,000 km) than the ones usually taking ground imagery (425km). Another option might be to see if we can buy aerial photography images on the cheap or sponsored, even if they are well out of date there is a lot of towns that just haven't change much in the last 100 years in terms of roads at least. ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au
[talk-au] Our own satellite imagery?
Hi All, Has anyone suggested that we record our own satellite imagery from the satellites whizzing around? Australias Landsat imagery is recorded in Alice Springs (as far as I know) -23.758824 133.881688 There is another dish just to the east as well. Dont know what frequencies are used or whether it is encoded. I briefly worked on the CSIRO receiver site (for 2 days in 1994) at Droughty Hill in Tasmania, across the river from the CSIRO at Battery Point and was told the Landsat downlink was 105 MegaBits per second. It was being recorded to 8 mm video tape and then transported by road to the HQ for chewing on the super computer they had at the time. With a little researching, we could find out the frequencies and modulation method and if it is encoded. If it is encoded, then another possibility, although a bit far fetched, is to record low resolution LEO (Low Earth Orbiting) weather sat imagery over many days or weeks, and add it together and process it to build up higher resolution. Don't know if this could be done or not. Anyone interrested? Re: [talk-au] Out of date sat imagery

In this case not even Google's imagery has cover up to date enough that you would be able to derive from it, the areas I've highlight will need super up to date imagery or someone going out with a GPS to do it. I found out today that I actually have to be at Maroochydore on Tuesday so I'll try and get a few of these places cleaned up either that morning or in the afternoon, time permitting. ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au
