[talk-au] Mapping road closures...
I was thinking last night how it might be useful to mark in common roads that are closed, and the events, eg roads commonly closed off before new years eve etc... Anyone have any thoughts on the best way to do this? ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au

No rush from my perspective - I'm much more interested in the turn restrictions, I am currently building a test VM so that I can narrow down the issue and file a bug report cheers cheers do you want me to follow that up on #navit? the channel has not been very active this week - i think that the devs are having a holiday ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au -- Franc ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au

Re: [talk-au] Mapping road closures...
I was thinking about this last night as well, as we were trying to navigate the nightmare of Sydney road closures. I suspect the roads that are closed each year (and even more likely each event) will be different. So, I cam to the conclusion that the best way of handling this was as some sort of data patch with a start/end time that gets applied in the routing software. From this I see two challenges - a format to represent the data, and an editor that makes it easy to create On Fri, Jan 1, 2010 at 2:14 PM, John Smith deltafoxtrot...@gmail.com wrote: I was thinking last night how it might be useful to mark in common roads that are closed, and the events, eg roads commonly closed off before new years eve etc... So, I cam to the conclusion that the Some roads, like the road over the harbour bridge are consistently closed the same time each year, usually for the same time periods too, although it would be possible to update the information as needed if needed I suppose. best way of handling this was as some sort of data patch with a start/end time that gets applied in the routing software. I don't think knowing the exact start/stop time is as important as being able to route around roads commonly closed. From this I see two challenges - a format to represent the data, and an editor that makes it easy to create I'm already adding opening_hours=* tags to shops, this might be close to what's needed. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:opening_hours The only problem with this scheme is you can't do, first sunday of the month for example. ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au
