Re: [talk-au] Discussion C: mapping on the street

2019-09-26 Thread Vũ Phạm Minh Tuấn
I agree with you

I always map on street and I made at least two trips per month. It’s
exciting, yes, fun and effective too.
I have an iPhone with GoMap!! installed. This app allows adding items
quickly by OSM program language as well as by item search.

Plus, adding things real-time means you can add more details as much as
possible.

My favourite items that I usually added into the maps are:
- Shops and services: cafe, restaurants, hairdressers, convenience stores.
- Amenities: bike parkings, waste baskets, toilets, water fountains and
fire hydrants.
- Roads: foot paths in a park, bike lanes.
- Street lights.

I visited Canberra twice last year. It was surprising that the city centre
was mapped for simply, and many facilities were missing.

So I spent about 3 hours mapping the shops and amenities into the map.

For a mapping nerd like me, mapping on a street is fun and a good way to
exercise.

Tuan.

Re: [talk-au] Discussion C: mapping on the street :: fixmes

2019-09-26 Thread Jonathon Rossi
Personally I add fixmes and notes fairly often when mapping at my computer
when I hit the limits of my survey, rather than out in the field. Notes to
explain why something isn't quite consistent with everything else or a way
that ends abruptly; and fixme for myself (or someone else if they desire)
to fix it up after I get back out there to survey it again.

I've mostly viewed fixme as something that would best show up in a mobile
app to someone physically in the location to map accurately, rather than
the other direction of pushing it to someone behind a desk. Like how
StreetComplete prompts to fill in missing information, Fix Me would allow
you to prompt someone physically to collect more information that isn't
just missing tagging.

Yeah agreed. If you added a FIXME, who would fix it?

If I see something like that, I generally make a note to myself to go back
and fix it later.

Hi Herbert,

Have you tried any of the apps listed on the Wiki?

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Software/Mobile

Android:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Android

iOS:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Apple_iOS

For editing on iOS I have used Go Map:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Go_Map!!

On Android I use Vespucci and StreetComplete:

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Vespucci

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/StreetComplete

StreetComplete allows one to place a note on the map with an image attached.
You can then view the note and the image in iD or JOSM. StreetComplete also
suggests edits to apply directly to the map, such as adding opening hours, etc.

Vespucci allows editing of pretty much anything, but is a bit tricky to use
with a touchscreen because of this.

Go Map!! is similar to Vespucci, but on iOS with a slightly simpler interface.

Some navigation applications such as OSMAnd allow for limited editing and
creation of points of interest. For instance, I used it to add some shops
directly to the map recently.

I use Vespucci on Android.

In addition to being a fully capable editor, you can add notes, and see
others notes at your location.

[talk-au] Discussion C: mapping on the street

2019-09-26 Thread Herbert.Remi via Talk-au
Discussion C: mapping on the street
OSM is great. I showed it to an organisation as large A0 maps of Canberra. The
largest size that I could print. The maps still covered the whole board table
when I left. I demonstrated an android app to the CEO. They had never heard of
OSM of course. "Its a bit like Google maps." I cannot tell you how often I have
heard that. I hope it will get the conversation going. Thank you for
everybody's efforts. :-)
But to the point…

mapping on the street
It is new and exciting, with people in the cafes but OSM says the street
building site. We have all experienced this.
JOSM and ID editors are excellent, but you cannot take them with you. The
ACTmapi Images 2019 are great, but they are almost a year out of date. GPX
tracks help but the editing is post-processing. It would be ideal to correct
the maps in real-time on the street. Canberra is changing so fast, it is hard
to keep up with.
It would be best to map on the street. When something needs correcting mark it
with a comment (or photo) for correction immediately (FIXME). The app would run
on the smartphone continuously showing the most current maps, can this be done?
I welcome your comments.___

I haven't sent one, feel free to send one and add it to the catalogue (even
if you don't hear back, if it's helpful to keep track of what we've sent
and when).

Dear Talk-AU,

I have found a dataset on data.gov.au with Centrelink addresses, locations and
opening hours.

https://data.gov.au/dataset/ds-dga-70c2b2fe-2a32-450e-98dc-453fe4a02aae/details?q=Centrelink

I was unable to find this data in the Australian data catalogue.

It is licensed as Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia.

Has a waiver already been sent for this data, or should I send one?
