It seems to be even easier now with the 2555 build of JOSM. The built in
slippymap plugin supports NearMap Australia as a built in option.
Now I just need to compare to a few GPS traces before I start aligning roads
around my suburb.

Just to make a more clear reply to this... we're aware of some issues with
tall bridges over water areas, related to automatic calculation of the DTM
from the DSM. We are working to improve this.

There's some pretty bad misalignment around the western end of the
westgate bridge, last time I checked. The end of the bridge disappears
into water...

2009-11-28 Thread Evan Sebire
Great, saves me putting together the patch. Basically did the same, and it's
been working great.
The only other thing was to increased the max cache setting size from 999Mb to
Mb in PreferencesDialog.ui. Even though the largest cache size so far has
been 800Mb still thought 999Mb maybe exceeded.

In an earlier thread someone spoke about aligning the tiles to a known point
when using JOSM. Is this possible with Merkaartor? I haven't noticed any
tiles that needed aligning once the nearmap tiles were corrected for
Melbourne.

As Leon said, first go to
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/NearMap_PhotoMaps#JOSM. I would
suggest using "SlippyMap Plugin (Method 1, Using custom Slippymap
plugin)".

It's fast, and it works. A few tips (these should be added to the wiki
at some point...):

* download http://map-data.bigtincan.com/data/slippymap-tested.jar
* put the plugin in your josm plugin directory (google "josm plugin directory").
* download http://josm.openstreetmap.de/josm-tested.jar
* in josm, turn on the slippymap plugin (Edit->Preferences, find the
plugins tab then check the slippymap-tested checkbox)
* have a play with the slippymap options (Edit->Preferences, find the
slippymap tab -> i'd recommend increasing the max zoom level, and
turning on autoload etc.

Let me know if that helps. If it helps, can you put it in the wiki for
me? gtg kthxbai

Sorry, i've never used JOSM personally, however there is some info in the
wiki on getting Nearmap working in JOSM

Franc, thanks for the patch for Merkaartor, i've recomplied with it and it
works perfectly. Hope the developers can get it into the next version.

Yeah, we cache at several levels, and quite aggressively. The conflict
between getting stuff cached for a decent time and yet being responsive to
imagery changes is, er, challenging!
However, if you use If-Modified-Since and If-No-Match queries, you should be
able to get sensible responses for when tiles are modified.

Haven't checked in the last 24 hours, but yesterday I cleared the 700Mb cache
that Merkaartor had built up of Eastern suburbs around Melbourne, but still
were getting a mix of tiles(old/new) around the zoom 19 level.When I

ISP caching?

Guess it best to wait a few days,
