[OSM-talk-be] Interesting OSM Blog

2013-11-07 Thread Marc Gemis
This blog http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/Harry%20Wood/diary/20335discusses
the problems people have with maintaining bus route relations and
attracting new mappers in London.

Seems other communities have the same problems as we do.

see you tonight at the hangout

Re: [OSM-talk-be] CRAB & OSM (again)

2013-11-07 Thread Marc Gemis
I realized that we can't work with different layers without breaking the
imported associatedStreet-relation. Therefore I have to update the text and
the screenshots.

I'm pretty sure it will be published with coordinates. There are
existing laws with coordinates in them, at least for borders
between municipalities. But it's hard to find them all since only
the recent changes are made available digitally.

There are defentily cases where the border is the historic path
of a river, and either the river changed by itself or man altered
it's path but that the border stayed.

But it's not only rivers. Roads are often also the border and
might later be widened, straighten out and so on.

You can do 2 things when currently mapping them and you don't have
official coordinates:
- Re-use the existing nodes, nodes end up in 2 ways
- Use other points for them, they don't share nodes

In the first case you of course need to be careful when moving
such a node. But we might not know better where the border really
is so it's often easier to map re-use the nodes.

No

Better than for the discussions on this list, I'm afraid. Not simple

I was just writing a few days ago that, as the law says that the law

I wonder what happens when the river or stream used as a borderline
by OSM changes its course by itself. And, after finding two
pedestrian crossings on Brussels' borderlines, whether the river
specialist mapper will notice that moving a river moves a border
too.

Many newspapers (but not La Meuse ;-)) contain the (same)
information, try a search in Dutch.
"Nul n'est censé ignorer la loi" (No one is supposed to ignore the

When I want to watch eBay articles, I record a daily keyword search
whose results are sent to me by e-mail.
Any idea when the government will invent that for the law?

Cheers,

Re: [OSM-talk-be] CRAB & OSM (again)

2013-11-07 Thread Marc Gemis
While I understand the arguments to have a dedicated account for imports,
what we are going to do is not an import. It is using a certain database as
reference source.
An import for me is taking all data from a source, and upload that
immediately into osm, without human intervention.

As Jo already pointed out, do they (DWG) expect us to switch accounts
between uploading the house numbers from AGIV and other tasks (such as
slightly modifying a building contour, splitting a building or adding a
highway crossing ) that can be done during the import ?
Or can that import account also be used for those changes ? What if they
decided to revert all the changes with data from the import ?

Ah and that looks good! :-) The only showstopper I can see is the
seperate-account-issue.

They are now discussing changing the import-guidelines to import-(rules) on
the 'imports-list' so I'm sure it will be doable to do without seperate
accounts.

2013-11-07 Thread Ben Abelshausen
Hi,

The site is back online, I just recieved an email about that.

I will continue to focus on the TODO's:

- Improve the script to handle 'special' chars: If anyone can spot what I'm
doing wrong in the script please let me know.
- Improve the script to Always take the most accurate position.
- Improve the script to remove data with an end-date before today.

Another suggestiong that popped-up during the last OSM-meetup here in Gent:

Not all CRAB-data is 'complete' yet. There is a list of communes that are.
I would suggest starting ONLY with these and add the new and completed
communes when they are complete at AGIV. I should have the information to
know quickly what data is complete. It's no use using data that might be
incorrect no?
