We'll see indeed what and if we go on with a vzw/asbl. Even if I think it
could be very good to have one, I am afraid by the overhead it can
represent (and waste of energy). We'll discuss.

The important matter is to have OSM move forward with people and energy IMHO

Unfortunately I won't be able to be present either. I'm planning to go do
some mapping in Russia next summer, and therefore I'll be studying Russian
on Thursday evenings (it's actually the other way around, of course, I'm
finally starting with the Russian course I've been planning to take up for
the past 10 years, almost)

Let us know what gets decided. I won't be able to do a lot around the VZW
anyway and I think there are enough cooks to create delicious web site :-)

Next, to comment on the fact, do you need a VZW, I think you do.  
Image the person owning the domain dies in a car accident or get 
eaten by zombies, then there is a big access problem in getting the 
control of the domain.   That would be the main reason for me do put 
an organisation in between this. finally, there is no way you can get 
a VZW in place before october, so I would not wait for it.

Totally aggree, if the road to getting this site online has adds and 
banners on the way, then count me out.  It goes against the very 
principle of being independant and non-commercial , open data .

is it really necessary to have a vzw/asbl to get osm.be and organize some
activities, be officially represented ? if yes, it can go rather fast as we
have discussed it already and have some basis for the statutes in the wiki
(and knowledgeable people)

If not, skip the point and move forward.

I personnally think that it would help to have a vzw/asbl to collect money,
(to spend of servers, bandwidth, materials like gps, meetings, advertizing
material ...), be officially represented, have members ...

of the Solbosch site of ULB where Fosdem and RMLL have taken place, and
where there is some demande for a cartoparty (with students and employees
of ULB)
