Re: [OSM-talk-be] Announce: Spring mapping party around Turnhout end of march

2010-02-20 Thread Luc Van den Troost
My birth town...

Lived there till about 8 years ago, so interesting to go there for a mapping
party.

A small round-up on actual situation of OSM in Turnhout.

Towncenter, within the ringway, seems mostly mapped and has most
streetnames. In the south-west part, between Antwerpsesteenweg and the
railroad, a lot of streets are missing.

Most one-way streets are not marked as one way. And a lot has changed since
I lived there.

In Turnhout, but outside the ringway, there are areas missing -
counterclockwise -
- between speelkaartenstraat and Steenweg op Gierle (not that many streets)
- between railroad and Steenweg op Tielen the Jef Buyckxstraat has a lot of
dead-end side streets, all with the same name
- between Steenweg op Tielen and Steenweg op Zevendonk, Parkwijk is mostly
missing (all dead end streets within Parkring and with strange house
numbering)
- At the other side of Steenweg op Zevendonk some major roads are mapped,
but most of the residential roads are missing (= quite some)
- South of E34, between Leiseinde and Kapelweg a lot of residential streets
are missing
- north there are a lot of residential streets missing around what is mapped
as 'tertiary' road Maria Van Zummerenstraat. Think name is wrong there, and
on top it is not a major road at all.

So I think there is quite some work, but it should be easy to split up the
areas and the work.

Will try to check out about interesting locations to put our headquarters...

Re: [OSM-talk-be] Announce: Spring mapping party around Turnhout end of march

2010-03-09 Thread Chris Van Bael
Hi all,

I've been lurking on this list for a while now, wanted to start
mapping, but never completely figured out how to do all of it.
I still have to check with my wife (since she's my agenda), but
possibly I could attend the party.

If there is no location yet, since I'm from Oud-Turnhout I could also
host the party.
I have one practical problem:
my ADSL modem/wireless router is such a Philips-Belgacom thing that
only allows 3 connections. That could be a problem of course.

If I look at the Doodle, Sunday 28 March would the best day?

Greets,

Chris

Re: [OSM-talk-be] Announce: Spring mapping party around Turnhout end of march

2010-03-09 Thread Luc Van den Troost
I think we found a good location - taverne Stadspark - but I still have to
check there. It has wifi available and is well located between town center
and the areas with most work - schorvoort - parkwijk - zevendonk.

We are also thinking of 'spreading the news' quite large in the hope to
attrackt some new people that might be able to contribute to OSM in the
-large- area of Turnhout. So we hope to have a lot of people there...
including new ones.

Network connections would not be a problem though. One connection can be
multiplied... at home we have 10 connections, only use one, and multiply
that 2 times to around 250... ;-)

I'll check on the 'stadspark' possibilities this afternoon. It only opens at
11, but as we change the clock to summertime that morning I guess most
people won't mind we do not start at 9...

2010-03-09 Thread Chris Van Bael
Stadspark is very nice, but can be very busy!

About the network connections I meant to say that the firmware in my
modem doesn't allow more than 3 computers to go online.
All get an IP adres and can work with each other, but only 3 have
access to the Internet.
It's a known 'feature' of those modems...
