Re: [Talk-ca] [nzopengis] Re: modification extractions and uploading new layers

2011-01-15 Thread Sam Vekemans
FYI,
I'm just forwarding these comments over to the Canadian talk-ca list,
as the national data is created in the exact same way.

And BTW, the fact that the canvec data is available in full
province/national sized shape files, as a layer for each feature
(should) be great news for some.
This is why im trying to convert the .gml file to .shp files to .osm
files to .img files (using the data as a tool for mapping perfection)

cheers,
Sam

Hello:

I just stumbled upon a beta of www.geocaching.com where the users can
select which map to use. Openstreetmap being one of the choices.

Is all the data from vriemer flawed?

He was a very prolific editor before disappearing after being
contacted and asked to communicate with the OSM community. I run
across entities with his fingerprint all over the place, but I can not
guarantee that there are issues with everything he touched.

If everything that had a vriemer edit on it was damaged, it would be
very easy to clear it all out, but I don't see that in the areas that
I've looked at. Obviously some of the edits were suspect, which is
what triggered the block on his user profile, but there never was a
consensus to remove all edits by that user.

Perhaps what you are seeing in your area is different from what I have observed.
