[Talk-ca] Adding Buildings + Leisure + Corrections To Ottawa Map Over Holiday Season
Hi Folks, I've created a new mapping task for the Ottawa area [1]. I really want to make our local map super awesome:) I see adding buildings as one of the biggest projects we can undertake, so that local mappers like myself could start adding address data from local surveys. The task focuses on buildings and leisure areas but also asks those mapping to correct any obvious issues encountered. I understand it's a large area to map but I see this as a long term project. It's also something I'd like to use to encourage new local mappers to get involved with through our monthly meetups. Let me know what you think and if I'm missing anything in the instructions to make this easier to work with! Join me over the holidays:) Cheers, Richard [1] http://tasks.osmcanada.ca/project/9 -- Please note: I only check email a few times during business hours. Fine with me. I've been mapping apartment and commercial/institutional buildings but not ordinary residences in my area. Does that seem like a reasonable priority, with the rest to be added later? It sure is -- as long as the postal code is coming from an appropriate source, e.g. a store receipt, a business's homepage, or your local knowledge. Maybe a note about that fact could be added to the instructions. Harald. You might like to add in a few footpaths from Bing and compare the city's cycling map to ensure that paths in parks are correctly tagged for cycling. Hi Folks, Thanks so much for the great feedback! Update: - I've removed the mention of postcode collection. I'm not sure of the legal aspect of collection as raised in an earlier thread. - Add several priority areas to help focus the mapping. - The generated tiles are the smallest the task manager will provide through the interface. There is an option to further split the tiles when a task is selected for editing. When you click Start Mapping, underneath the drop down for editor of choice is Task to big? Split. Click this to subdivide the tile further. Really excited for this:) Again, thanks for your feedback and help! Have a great afternoon! I've found that if you add an address without a postal code, then query Nominatim later, it returns the postal code. I suspect geocoder.ca data is involved somewhere along the way. cheers Stewart ___ Talk-ca mailing list Talk-ca@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ca
