[Talk-ca] bicycle network in Quebec: the Route Verte

2010-08-07 Thread Daniel Tremblay
When I look at the cyclemap, I see red lines (NCN) and light blue lines
(RCN) for the Route Verte. I also see red lines tagged as RCN (I suspect
that the cyclemap rendering has not been updated for a while - my changes
made almost 3 weeks ago are not still there).

There was a discussion 2 years ago about Biking network in Canada:
http://www.mail-archive.com/talk-ca@openstreetmap.org/msg00044.html

Now, I would like to document the Route Verte #5 between Quebec and
3-Rivières.

Do we tag the Route Verte as NCN or RCN?

For me,
Route Verte is National.
Regional are route within a region (like La piste Dansereau-La Liseuse
between Ste-Catherine de la Jacques-Cartier and Pont-Rouge or the St-Henri /
Armagh new cycleway).
LCN are within a municipality.

But I will go with the group (as long as we are consistent ...).

Maybe the subject has already been discussed and decided. If so, is it
documented somewhere?

Thank you ...

PS: Ça me fait drôle d'expliquer ma patente en anglais ...

2010-08-07 Thread Daniel Tremblay
I have found this: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/FR:Route_verte

It doesn't specify the type of network to apply (NCN vs RCN). Maybe it
should be added (once decided).

This page also suggest that the following tags applied:

*Type de voies* *Clef* *Valeur* Bande cyclable cycleway lane Accotement
pavé cycleway lane Chaussée désignée bicycle designated Piste
cyclable highway
cycleway Sentier polyvalent highway path
I also use cycleway=track when the piste cyclable is separated from the
road but just beside it. I use highway=cycleway when it does not follow the
road. Does that make sense? Is so, maybe the wiki page should be modified
to reflect this ...

Comments?

Re: [Talk-ca] bicycle network in Quebec: the Route Verte

2010-08-07 Thread Sam Vekemans
sorry,
i get all excited when talking about the tct and ncn.
yes, the route de verte network in quebec should be ncn, and the
regional network exists where a route in continious passing through
towns, usually in a 'regional municapility'.

my fight continues, but as far as i know, im the only one who is
proposing a national cycle network for each other province :)
and btw, for the TCT, only route=recreation is appropriate as it (by
definition) it has no formal end-to-end use.

i hope thats more clear than the previous thread.

cheers,
sam

re: tagging
feel free to take a lead on it, the system looks good to me.

and ya, the cyclemap usually takes a week for something to render and
much longer for the ncn as its viewable from space.

cheers,
sam
