Re: [Talk-ca] Voluntary re-licensing begins
Of course the really evil thought would be to look upon it as an excuse to zap the existing road network and bring it in again certainly in Ottawa. Just think roads that met and are routable, roads with the correct names on them. Even though I've spent many hours cleaning up the existing Ottawa road network roads that have the wrong name on them are very difficult to pick out. The roads that were imported from Geobase 2009 with out street names are a lot easier to find and correct. Years ago I was taught clients put quality / reliability first, programmers tend to put speed first, some how I don't think we are ready for the first end users yet. No additional issues are raised by importing CanVec, than would be by doing a survey and uploading based on your notes. We have permission. Two questions here: 1) is Toporama WMS included? I assume it is part of GeoBase but just want to be sure 2) did they give permission for the contributors to give the rights to OSMF to re-license the data, as mentioned in the contributor terms? In any case it would be good to have an official page (i.e. not on the wiki where anyone can modified it) of which entities OSMF negotiated with for people who imported work to review and decide if they can accept the contributor terms.
