In den Diskussionen um den deutschen Kartenstil, unter anderem auf der
FOSSGIS und im Email ping-pong mit gmbo bzw.  der schweren Geburt, bis er

von größeren Kartenausschnitten in PostgreSQL auf 0815 PC eigentlich das
größte Problem darstellt.

Auf normalen nicht high-end Rechnern ist osm2pgsql schlichtweg keine
wirkliche Option.

Daher kann vielleicht jemand etwas mit zwei Datenbank-dumps anfangen, die
aus diesem Grund entstanden sind. Die kann man einfach mit pg_restore in
eine lokale PostgreSQL laden.

Sowas sollte man eigentlich regelmäßig machen und zum download anbieten. Ich
denke mal drüber nach.

Langer Rede kurzer Sinn, hier sind zwei PSQL-dumps mit denen man sowohl
OSM-carto Stil[1] als auch meinen German-Style fork[2] rendern kann:

Beide sind _nicht_ updatefähig!

Die erste Datei deckt die ganze Welt ab und benötigt in PostgreSQL ca. 
170GB Plattenplatz (45G Download), die zweite Datei ist ein Ausschnitt, den
ich "dachlite" nenne. Das ist die Bounding-Box von Deutschland so weit nach
Süden erweitert, dass noch die komplette Schweiz drin ist und die Teile von
Österreich, die nicht weiter nach Osten reichen als die Bounding-Box von
Deutschland (7.4G Download).

schuldigen Änderungssatz identifiziert und korrigiert/revertiert.

Welche Mitarbeiter des Mapbox Data Teams werden denn dann in
Deutschland mappen? Wo sitzen diese Mitarbeiter? Sind diese der
deutschen Sprache mächtig? Waren diese Mapper jemals in Deutschland
und haben somit ein wenig gesehen, wie deutsche Straßen aussehen? Oder
haben wir über kurz oder lang mit denselben Problemen wie
Großbritannien und andere Länder zu kämpfen: Luftbild- und
Mapillary-gläubige Mapbox-Angestellte, die der Landessprache nicht
mächtig sind und entweder aus Eile oder fehlender Sprachkenntnis, die

lol, I must have missed this. Wolfsburg is actually a very young city, founded 
in 1938 as home for the workers of Volkswagen, which was installed there by the 
Nazis to produce the Beetle (KdF-Wagen), and has as almost only feature the 
huge car production plant of VW (the museum and college, Autostadt etc. are all 
more or less related to the factory). Speaking of major German cities (or being 
asked to name 20 of them) almost no German would come up with Wolfsburg I guess 
(almost because maybe some local would).

It's not even on the English WP list of the 50 biggest German cities:

FWIW, I believe you shouldn't do this remote mapping project in Germany, as the 
features you plan to map require current on the ground knowledge, something 
mapillary cannot provide reliably (if there are discrepancies between their 
photos and OSM you would not know whether OSM is wrong or incomplete, or the 
situation simply has changed since the photo was taken).

I like the part where you say Wolfsburg, population 120.000,
was a major city in Germany.

It's obvious Wolfsburg was chosen because that's where the
headquarters of Volkswagen are located. And Stuttgart
because that's where Mercedes-Benz/Daimler and Porsche
are. Those happen to be the first cities in whole Europe
you target. /s

I'd argue there there are other German cities with better
coverage that could be prioritised if Mapillary is meant
to be the primary source. Can the local community volunteer
other cities or is Stuttgart and Wolfsburg a must-have?

(Mac, Java Build 1.8.0_101-b13), jetzt erhalte ich aber einen Hinweis 
auf eine verfügbare Version 10786.


Ah, ich seh grad, JNLP weist wohl auf die Web Start Version hin. Hast du 
mal den klassischen Download von JOSM getestet?

thanks for discussion your remote mapping plans in advance.

However, what I miss from the analysis on your diary page is the
analysis how much in need the named cities are for a remote mapping
approach, i.e. when you count existing turn restriction, what is your
estimate of missing ones or wrong ones?

My guess is that there are very few missing in Berlin, and the motorways
are quite complete with exit numbers and destination tagging.

Berlin is well covered with local mappers who are quite responsive to
constant changes in restrictions, lane layout and construction sites.
Relying mostly on mapillary, which covers about 3 years now, you would
get in trouble with these things having changed meanwhile.
