Re: [Talk-GB] MapThePaths editing bug - fixed
Good Job! I'd only tried to use it yesterday after my approved 'exercise'. One extra possible addition: could it also add the source:prow_ref with the appropriate data source? regards, Martyn On 07/04/2020 11:16, Nick Whitelegg wrote: Hi, I've just discovered that MapThePaths had a problem with editing which only came to light just now, but it will have been present ever since I moved it to another server several weeks ago. Essentially, a different configuration on the new server was producing (sensible) warning messages which corrupted the JSON returned - and highlighting a bug. This bug is now fixed, and MapThePaths editing appears to be working again now. Sorry for the downtime if anyone was trying to use it recently. Re: [Talk-GB] Q3 2018: Paths and rights of way
Great project, especially now we have the excellent MapThePaths tool. One lesson from viewing that is to stress the importance of the designation tag (mea culpa, I've omitted that sometimes in the past ...) Also, can the MapThePaths view have a way of visualising permissive paths - I don't know of another map which could bring them all together. They are often 'signed' with poorly printed A4 paper documents tacked to posts which rapidly deteriorate, leaving no certain record if visited a while after they are established. The wiki stub should link to the UK PROW pages let's get walking, cheers, Martyn (sobbomapper) On 28/06/18 21:35, Rob Nickerson wrote: Hi all, With summer aligning with recent interest in footpaths, let's spend the next 3 months project focusing on paths and rights of way. I have created a wiki page (stub). Please add to it: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/UK_2018_Q3_Project:_Paths_and_rights_of_way We can also do with a blog post for OSM UK and twitter. Any volunteers to write this? Re: [Talk-GB] Ideas for quarterly projects
How about streets and their names ? According to the ITO OSM analysis, at 24/11/2016, compared to OS Locator, there were 17,687 missing major roads. The UK is 97.8% complete, only 16 out of 408 areas are 100% complete, and in the last month only 68 were added. The ITO tool is available to point out the missing data, and is updated frequently enough to show progress. regards, Martyn On 06/12/16 19:32, Andy Mabbett wrote: I'd like to float the following ideas for quarterly projects, and see what folk think. * GLAMs - Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums. As with schools we could turn points into ploygons, add names, URLs, street addresses, Wikidata items, and other info. * Blue lights - police, fire and ambulance stations, and associated infrastructure. Including fire hydrants! * Public art - location, artist, material; also Wikidata - could be combined with http://pigsonthewing.org.uk/public-art-wikipedia/ * Shops - even where mapped, these soon fall out-of-date. * Vets - maybe not enough to do on their own. Combine with shops? * Pubs, bars & other licensed premises - see https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2016/oct/21/worlds-longest-pub-crawl-maths-team-plots-route-between-every-pub-in-uk for inspiration. Also breweries. * Public toilets - follows nicely from the previous suggestion! Maybe in collaboration with https://greatbritishpublictoiletmap.rca.ac.uk/ * FixMe & Notes - let's clear the backlog! Re: [Talk-GB] National Byway rendering on OpenCycleMap
I recently cycled following Byway signs to the Cambridgeshire border near Gamlingay (where the signs disappeared ..) I later extended the relation for that part of the Byway which I found by searching the Wiki. The Sustrans network is often better mapped in OSM than on the Sustrans website. I recently rode some local signed roads that are not on the Sustrans website. The National Byway website, in contrast, has no serious online mapping. There is a low resolution representation that is useless for planning an actual cycle trip. They sell maps, but some are out of stock, and the whole Byway (and local Loops) is not covered. The Byway needs a good map, and OSM/OpenCycleMap is ideally equipped to provide it. to quote Andy Allan in another context: One of the phrases I started using a few years ago is “render and they will map” – or, in other words, if you are interested in a particular aspect of mapping data being improved then the best way to encourage mappers to improve that is to make it visible and useful. ___ Talk-GB mailing list Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-gb
Re: [Talk-GB] Waterways Map (was invisible)
In my region, The River Stort navigation, from Roydon up to the limit of navigation to Bishops Stortford, is mostly tagged waterway=river. But this is frequently navigated, has locks, a towpath, and is wide enough for vessels wider than the traditional narrowboats. I'm not a waterway specialist compared to some contributors here - would this be the most complete set of tags? What else would you add ? waterway=canal name=River Stort Navigation boat=yes cheers, Martyn ___ Talk-GB mailing list Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-gb
Re: [Talk-GB] Definitive Paths Map Source
In Hertfordshire, East Herts publish maps that are drawn on top of an OS layer. But for each parish, they also publish a text description of each numbered right of way, last updated in 2006. Useful as not all real-world physical signs have the number. So using that with the NPE layer in Potlatch it should be possible to check and reconstruct the present ROWs. Anyone see any problems with this method? ___ Talk-GB mailing list Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-gb
