Re: [Talk-GB] 3rd Midlands OSM New Year Meetup
I'll do my best to get along. These paths have not only been well surveyed over past 7 years, but they are short. I can probably describe each of these routes across the railway to a very fine level of detail. For instance there is a fine hedge of Holly along the east side of the path north of Barratt Lane no 1 crossing. A great place for Holly Blue butterflies in the Spring. Defending the Attenborough crossings will undoubtedly generate a great campaigning team. I'm already in touch with members of the reserve management committee and Beeston Wildlife Group (there is a distinct overlap). Footpaths in the countryside often don't gave such defenders, getting them mapped & problems reported is a very worthwhile OSM activity. In some parts of the country highway authorities don't even meet the bare minimum of their statutory duties for rights of way. (I'm still awaiting a response from Kent about a blocked path I reported months ago). Because it'd be dark? :) There's no reason why a bunch of OSMers couldn't turn up on that evening _as well_, of course... There are several rights of way across the Midland Main Line in the vicinity in Attenborough: http://overpass-api.de/api/convert?data=node[%22railway%22~%22crossing%22]%2852.85,-1.26,52.92,-1.2%29;out;=openlayers=14=52.9=-1.23 These road/foot/bridalway level crossings are the first 7 level crossing (previously 9) after leaving London (200 km). All are concentrated in Attenborough between Trent Junction and Beeston. -Paul [1] Verbal confirmation that a public consultation has been scheduled for 8 January 2016 15:00-19:30(?) in Attenborough Village Hall. It would be very useful to have each of the level crossings re-surveyed and micro-mapped as ground-truth basemaps of the status-quo. -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFYWZqyc444tukM+iQRAinlAKCRwyQHi0eW5t1mpNOCWkmt5wlhngCgmQs8 7ONDLk0Vyj/HeLdJ3vDeRKk= =roQo -END PGP SIGNATURE- ___ Talk-GB mailing list Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-gb

I've drafted a wiki page for a meeting along the lines of those we have had in the past 2 years. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Nottingham/Mapping_Meetup/New_Year_2017 There is a Doodle poll which will help me choose a date: http://doodle.com/poll/s7y2ifwc5vbr6rg2 I'm suggesting two locations for now. My personal preference is for the Leicestershire one, at least in part because I have cased out the area and it's a little different from the S Staffs area. However, it may be regarded as too far by West Midlanders. I'm open to other suggestions, although when I raised the idea of the Swadlincote area in the pub there were a number of dissensions.
