Re: [Talk-GB] London venues

2019-05-07 Thread Rob Nickerson
Hi all,

A quick update: Thanks for all your venue suggestions for the next OSM UK
annual general meeting. It's taken a while to go through the options and
find a date that works for venue and us. Subject to any last hitches we
have now settled on a venue in central London on Saturday 29 June. Jez is
doing a recce this week and if all good we will confirm and send out the
AGM invite to members.

Not a member? Join now:
https://osmuk.org/become-member/

I'm hopeful that we can make it into a bigger event including more than the
AGM. Please feel free to share ideas here. Basic suggestion so far has been
to start just after midday to allow people time to travel into London, a
quick AGM followed by an open session of some form before heading for
food/drinks. If you have a particular desire to include something as part
of the day, please let me know.

P.S. The AGM includes election of new Directors. As posted on Loomio we are
looking for 2 new Directors. Please consider volunteering as without two
new Directors we may be forced to wind up the organisation which would be a
great shame as it has been picking up pace this last 6 months.

Best regards,
Rob

*Rob*

Hi Phil,

We are very close to confirming a venue and date.

The date will be pushed out into later June as we have to give 45 days
notice for an AGM, and to give people a chance to arrange transport, etc.

Not sure that this got noticed,

The London Hackspace can provide a classroom for 30+ people for just a
donation to their coffers.

It is in Wembley so not quite central but not the ends of the earth.

If interested I am a member and could host and facilitate the event.

Let me know if you'd like an introduction to the founder./ manager.

Alternatively, you might ask one of the tech co.s in London (Google,

Hey Gregory, do you have a date for visiting Geovation? I'm at the GIS
South East User Group meeting (as you may be?) next Wednesday which is in
Sutton Yard, which I assume means is in the Geovation offices.

I (somewhat in the capacity as an OSM UK director) have been invited to
visit Geovation, and I don't think there is much of a hatchet left to bury.
I could ask our contacts if an event at Geovation would be suitable and
possible.

For the Queen's birthday I don't think there would be a lot of added issue,
apart from certain parts of London (like Victoria, Green Park, etc). The
8th was partially to avoid following the bank holiday weekend, as that
might more of you and cheap train tickets unavailable.
We also thought London might be good for it's central location in the South
of the UK. Last year we spent a lot of time voting and considering the best
city.

The London Hackspace (in Wembley) has a classroom that seats 30 with
ease >> https://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/view/Classroom

If interested I am a member and could host and facilitate the event.

My next-door neighbour works at Google - I could ask him for a contact
there?

Let me know if you'd like an introduction to the founder./ manager.

Alternatively, you might ask one of the tech co.s in London (Google,
Microsoft) to sponsor-in-kind by prviding a room.

[Talk-GB] London venues

2019-03-13 Thread Rob Nickerson
Hi all,

For the next OSM UK annual general meeting we thought we would try London
as a possible location. Does anyone know of good (and cheap) venues that we
can use? We have 100 members but would expect the number to actually attend
would be in the region of 20-30 unless paired with a significant other
event.

Dates: We are thinking Saturday 8 June as a starting point but can move to
other Saturdays if venue availability is better.

Best regards,
*Rob*

P.S. Plans for a Bristol event are still in the works. This has taken
longer than we had hoped as it is a joint event. Hopefully some news on it
shortly.
